  1. I spent 12 hours on the bench this weekend working on this, and although I met my goals , you can hardly tell I did anything. I finished the frame stretch, just behind the sleeper, I added another section bringing the wheelbase to 280 inches total. 300 seem to be to much so I decided on 280. The engine is on its mounts, and radiator is fitted. The hood is done except the rivets. Question to those that have used Archer rivets, do they show under gloss paint? did some work on the chassis as well, front axle is lowered 3.5 inches.
  2. I’m digging the interior!! Gorgeous car!!
  3. Nice! One day I’d like to build one of these.
  4. Is there a build thread for this beauty? Awsome work and I’d love to see come together.
  5. This is in fact the Black Magic kit with different decals and box art. I’m really excited about this build because like you, I think the ext hood Pete is most beautiful truck out there. I built the Black Magic kit when it first came out , shows my age, but I didn’t do it justice. This build has been in my head for a long time, and I have high hopes for it.
  6. Not right posting real trucks and saying they are models. ? Outstanding build!!
  7. I’ve heard many people say that they are useless, but I like to use a 10/0 liner brush on smaller stuff…and like said above..toothpicks work well in some circumstances.
  8. I’d be very curious to know how many models “ Jenn from Testors “ has gloss coated with an airbrush ???
  9. If your going to gloss coat decals, I highly recommend using a solvent on them to get them snugged down and let them dry for a day or 2. You definitely don’t want them loose when ya coat them…and Rodent is correct, Testors gloss does yellow over time. The only Testors gloss coat I ever liked was the Wet Look Clear laquer which I understand is hard to find now.
  10. Any contact information? I’m not on Facebook. I tried emailing through the website a couple weeks but never heard back. The website seems to be down now.
  11. Something like this
  12. Does anyone know of a source for machined aluminum Vortox air cleaners? thanks In advance
  13. You do know that Testors enamels are discontinued don’t you? You can find them now but many colors are getting harder to find. And just for the record…primer does other things than provide a surface for paint to stick to.
  14. My suggestion would be to get the airbrush, and learn to paint with it using flat paints. Use it for interiors and mechanical parts etc. Get a feel for it there first before trying to shoot a glossy body. Modern rattle cans are wonderful, Tamiya sprays and hard to mess up if you use light coats and take the time to prep.I didn’t see anyone mention primer, but that’s an important step as well. And decals….that’s a while ‘nother world lol. Models with lots of decals or even a couple large decals can be very difficult to get right. Solvents help but, technique is king. Practice is key, I wish I had a dollar for ever kit that never got finished because I ruined it in the early days of my modeling.
  15. I got from Ebay, I found a seller in Europe with free shipping. I got tired of waiting for it to show up in the states.
  16. Stretched the hood and frame, waiting on some styrene strip and Archer rivets to finish the hood. Grafted the kit transmission to the Cat. Color will be Tamiya metallic green over black with some white stripes!
  17. Starting with the Revell 359 kit with opening doors. I will be using KFS 1693 Cat engine, Keystone aluminum wheels, and some other aftermarket stuff is on the way.
  18. Tamiya tape…comes various widths including some very thin. I have had very good luck with it not leaking.. they even make tape suitable for compound curves. Works very well too!! Best tape I’ve ever used. I recently used it to mask between the black and red here. A very clean line.
  19. If this helps, here is the engine compared to a standard Pete hood.
  20. Thought I’d share some pics of this engine. Building for an upcoming build that the mailman will have for me soon. I’ve built a lot of resin in my time and I have to say KFS made an awesome little kit here. Clean up was very little, fit was awesome, and the detail is very crisp. It’s pinned together for painting and plumbing in these pics. I would definitely recommend!!!
  21. Looking very nice!!!!!
  22. Got some shading done on the life vest and parachute harness…still working it
  23. Got some base color on….they always look so cartoonish at this point
