  1. I decided to make up some bushings to help locate the front strut rods and lower spindle mounts. I still have to do the upper spindle locations.
  2. Possibly from VCG Resins. Most other 3D parts I find on eBay. I have to get back on this. I ran into am issue with the rear partition or firewall location. The kit headers are a horror show. I have a few sets on order from Ron Coon Resins.
  3. This is high end insane! Great detail.
  4. I ran into a fellow stock car modeler on FB. He used to post on Randy Ayers forum. He posted a link to his Fotki site and I already have done most of what he did. Another thing I have to explore is cutting off the front spindle hubs (1/8" diameter) and locating them up higher. I have to do a mock up later this morning.
  5. Old post I know... are these decals any good? I'm watching a few on eBay. Thanks.
  6. Yesterday I made a pot of red sauce. The usual can of paste, 3 cans of crushed tomatoes, garlic, grated onion. I add a tin of anchovies as well. This batch I made meatballs, used 6 sweet sausages, a few pork ribs cut up, a couple chicken drumsticks with the thighs. Of course oregano, basil and a bay leaf. I breaded (double dredge in flour & bread crumbs) some Purdue chicken breasts that were very thin. Those went into the oven with some sauce and grated mozzarella cheese. I put them on Italian bread, hero style. Today I will be making a no-bake cheese cake using Philip cream cheese.
  7. This is where I get mine. He has lots of stock car pieces.
  8. That is just perfect. The finish is a nice break from the ultra-polished ones we usually see here.
  9. If you have a good digital scale, you can get both parts dispensed equally. I generally use my "eye-crometer". In the past I used only a dab to hold in glass. At work we had those bipax epoxies in small packages, it came with a divider that was removed, knead the 2 parts and go to town with it. We had a shelf with expired items and we helped ourselves. I never saw any of that fail. Bigger amounts came in cans like Bondmaster 777. That was purple in color and smelled like peanut butter. We had a damaged concrete step, maintenance used the 777 on it, it had to be there for 15 years and withstood thousands of footsteps each day.
  10. How many do you want? Lol... they are still around. The Southern Stocker kits had interchangeable nose and tail pieces. It was essentially the same kit for the Monte Carlo (1981-ish), the Grand Prix and the Buick Regal. These mainly were short track versions with bulged-out fenders. They would be great for late model builds with wide 5 wheels. All kits had a generic big block Chevy with the distributor up front.
  11. I find that my gray primer hardly covers over a black sharpie. So I wash it off with lacquer thinner before.
  12. Cage is done. Added a Ron Coon overflow tank and fuel fill. Pinned the spindles, added 00-90 threaded rod for front weight jackets. Using a PPP window net. MSD boxes will be inside on the dash.
  13. Thanks. I came close to swapping a donor WC kit under it, one stop shopping. I have more than a few of the Buick and Pontiac Southern Stocker kits, I like the body on the Buick. So that may be up next. It has been a learning experience.
  14. I'm looking at some NASCAR decals made by LoboGraphics on eBay. Has anyone used them?
  15. Some of the original stock car steel wheels were actually made from Ford pickup truck pieces. The centers were doubled up and welded into wider hoops.
  16. I had a 1965 C30 panel truck in 1975. It came with an oil belching 215 Pontiac straight 6, similar to the Chevy 230. I swapped a 283 and headers into it. I'd like to build one. But I would need 2 bodies. The C30 was much longer.
  17. I use surgical blades myself. You need a hard surface. A cutting mat is too soft, i used a sheet of thin fiberglass for years.
  18. This is it for today. The cage is close to done. The rear kickers came from an AMT donor and went right in. I added 2 vertical bars by the side glass to give the cage more strength. The front cage piece was an abomination, so out that went. I added 2 bars up front and have to make up a diagonal bar. The seat, also from the donor kit, was modified slightly. Steering column is aluminum tubing. I used an old NASCAR radiator to make a new one. I'm waiting on a 3D printed big block. The kit one was awful, especially the headers. The new one looks to have similar headers. I also have a big order coming from Ron Coon Resins.
  19. I think the truck arm rear is more period correct than the leafs. Plus the rear is too high unless you do what I have done.
  20. You did a lot of what I had to do on mine. I still have a couple of cage bars to add. I ditched that "cow catcher" front cage piece. I have a 3D printed big block on order. The way the heads are configured, getting the headers in and doing plug wires is very hard. I have a SBC I was messing with, but the headers hit the cross member. The 3D printed BBC with the headers should clear it.
  21. I have some Kings Row decals and the kit decals are pretty nice. The 1973 Benny Parsons car, in red, shows a 427 decal on the hood. The kit 427 is awful, I have to see if I have another around. So using the 1973 decals on the slope nose would be wrong... be nice to see if anyone notices. If this builds up decently, I may do one of my MANY southern stocker Buicks as a late model.
  22. Like I need another project, oh well. This is the latest re-pop of the old MPC Southern Stocker-ish kit with the slope nose Laguna body. I feel bad for any kid tackling this gem. Instructions are poor, some items like the rear cage kicker bars are missing. The dash was so bad, I made my own. The basic cage went together okay. I made features to locate the body to the chassis, angle plastic along the rockers, a bar across the rear to support the chassis. Extended the rear of chassis by 3/8" to close the gap, made a tab to locate the bumper, there was nothing there. The dash came out pretty good. I'm using Model Car Garage gauge set MCG 2098. Lots of parts were taken from a WC donor kit. The big block that came with the Laguna is awful. I'm doing a fit check with the SBC from the donor if the headers work out. I'm using some bigger PPP period correct tires and wheels. I have to play mix and match with the wheel backs. I dropped the rear by 1/8", it sat a mile high.
  23. My buddy had a '61, what a piece of junk. It was his mom's car and his dad NEVER changed the oil in it. I helped him change the valve cover gasket and do an oil change. The valve springs were all but visible under the coat of sludge. I talked him out of cleaning it off. The oil filter was the OG from '61. It weighed around 4 lbs and was 100% blocked up.
  24. I have the juan4you chassis. It is pretty nice and cleaned up well.
  25. 3" of snow with a layer of ice under it on Long Island. 7 degrees this morning, already fed the birds. I'm not going far today.
