  1. Keep an eye on the Orange Sherbert one. I had only one...but it was by far the most adventurous kitten I ever had. It was all over the place by 2 weeks old.
  2. Awesome, who had the file? Was it hard to set up on your printer?
  3. I got into machining after recovering from a serious car accident. I needed something that was easier to do physically. I'm lucky to have gotten into an incredible model shop, then a true R & D shop. You had to be fast and accurate. I saw many older guys come in with "20 years of experience" that did not make probation. It was almost all manual, with one NC Bridgeport mill. It was great to rough out multiple parts. We had a huge Van Norman Universal mill, with cabinets of accessories, all mint condition. And 2 large Regal-LeBlond lathe with overhead cranes to change chucks and faceplate. I learned to EDM on a small Charmilles machine. We had a separate room for surface grinders. There was a large sheet metal shop next door, these guys could make anything.
  4. I've been watching a ton of old movies on TCM and some on my old westerns cable channels. One guy keeps popping up, Fred McMurray, as in the dad in My 3 Sons. He plays quite the bad guy. Double Indemnity from 1944, I just saw part of a western from 1957. Starts with a Q... He plays a desperato type, running with some other bad guys, heading to Mexico. Of course every one of these has to have eye-candy in it. This had Dorothy Malone
  5. I'm a classically trained machinist, served a 4 year apprenticeship too. I did all sorts of similar repair jobs like that on old car parts, race cars and boats. FYI a telescoping gage is not that accurate, it may get you in the +/- .001 ballpark. Intra-mikes are much more accurate. I have a Bridgeport mill and a Clausing lathe (not working right now..). I am in the market for a Sherline lathe. I struggle quite a bit without one. I retired from everything between 2016 and 2020, I used to have precision lathe access at my job. I still have a cigar box with all my homegrown lathe bits, mini boring bars, etc. I have one cut-off tool that I can turn, face and use to part off finished parts.
  6. I built one as a kid, no issues I can recall.... of course if something was troublesome.. it was left in the box.
  7. I just run metric conversions in my head. 1 mm = 1 scale inch. I have tricks I use to get close quickly. Example, if you want to convert 1.2 mm to inches, just go with significant digits, 12 x 4 = 48. Shift the zero over 3 places to the left yields .048". I use the metric system quite often over the US system.
  8. They do grow fast. These are great looking kittens. I never had a cat birth more than 5 kittens. Usually 3 to 4 was the norm.
  9. 36 F and rainy..again. It rained all day Saturday and never got above 42. And some wicked wind last night.
  10. Tamiya TS-33 Dull Red is close to red primer.
  11. I'm all in with lacquer. Automotive type or Tamiya acrylic-lacquer sprays. Even the Testors Extreme Lacquers work well. I use real automotive 1k clears too.
  12. When my son picked up our Ivan at 6 weeks old, he was spitting and hissing something fierce. He put him inside his coat and he quieted down. Once home he was introduced to real cat food and kitten formula. But he would still hide when we came to feed him. He would eat, crawl up in my lap, purr and fall asleep after. He was an interesting kitten.
  13. 36 F and...more rain on Long Island. Downright chilly outside. I doubt I'll be doing any painting today... maybe small items if I lean out the back door...
  14. How does the Moebius Chevy II kit stack up against the AMT kits? I'd hope they go together better than the AMT ones.
  15. I use Tamiya NATO black and the newer TS-82 tire black. I also like Mr. Surfacer black primer, I shot some Mr. Surfacer matte clear over that.
  16. Some hiss very early, out of instinct. Amazing even before the eyes open up. Which is is about at 2 weeks old... and they start walking. Or try to. See if you can sneak an old towel or bath mat under the dresser. They will be much warmer. Wipe up 1/2 the area at a time, fold and lay down the towel. Momma will not be happy if you move them out, but might tolerate it for a minute. Place them in a box works, but give momma access to them.
  17. And as kids, we used cardboard boxes, perched on top of mom's washing machine...
  18. I went back and thinned my Vallejo and painted a steering wheel (center spokes) last night. MUCH better this time. I'll stick with the Tamiya clear paints in the jar.
  19. One of my brother's neighbors was in the brush business, gave us a bunch some years ago. All quality sables. I do need to get more #00 though. I did some Vallejo before without thinning it... no bueno. It washed off well and will thin it on my next attempt.
  20. Heat is on Netflix.
  21. So she trusts you. Try to handle them every day a little bit. They need to get used to people. Are you keeping them? I fostered a momma cat years ago, she had 5 kittens and I found homes for them.
  22. Some momma cats will scour the house looking for a safe spot to give birth. They prowl all over to find a quiet place a few days before the event. I've had them move kittens to more secluded spots if they get too much attention. You wake up and momma found better digs for them. Most will let trusted people handle them, which is essential to socializing them.
  23. I've been using mostly Vallejo acrylics to brush on for small-ish details. I'll squeeze some into a bottle cap, add a drop or 2 of water. It is thick right out if the bottle. It covers well, I do give things a 2nd coat most of the time.
  24. I just read all 21 pages... wow. Is there a 3D Printing book for crayon-eaters? There seems to be a lot to it. I have a lot of CAD background, I did a lot of CNC programming, mainly on mills, vertical and horizontal. I'm completely computer literate.. at least I think I am. I do know guys who do a lot of printing (from bought) files that are pretty much urban-amish. They have zero CAD skills and are barely computer literate. I just bought a new PC that should be able to handle anything. My son's girlfriend works at a library that offers printing and has tinkercad classes. One step at a time, I'll do research into terms I see here first. I'd like to work with one program, as in Blender. I have to look up "slicer" programs. Another new term for me. For working space, I have a clean finished basement. My son is between apartments and is using it for storage. I jotted down some notes and will ask questions as I educate myself, thanks!
  25. 27 F here on the Island. No wind or rain for a change. By now people are out doing yard chores... but not this year. Even the landscape crews are off to a late start.
