Engine assembly,at least partial. I have to wire up the starter, I have no access once the headers are on.
-
Calling the cage DONE. The rear kickers are 2 pieces, the upper pieces are pinned to the lower, to be installed at assembly. Ron Coon disc brakes are complete and look good. I had to remove material from the caliper top to get them about 1/2 way into the wheels.

Now the body sits straight, goes back together the same way every time. I'm doing some bars and having 2 ends with a compound angle makes it harder. I now make the bars in 2 pieces. Get the angled ends right. Cut the other ends that meet square. Now you can index the ends, glue the middle. Rear kicker bars are up next. More fun since the cage is offset to the left. Which was common on modifieds. The kit does not give a ton of room as it is, even worse with the floor pan left stock.

The cat? That's Ivan's baby picture.

Got the 3D printed engine painted. It came less a few things like the starter and transmission. I'll start to get a few things assembled and see how it fits the engine bay.

Ok... the Future Mod is back. I got disgusted with botching up the body to chassis fit.. BACK IN THE BOX! I decided to try some new Ron Coon Resins parts on it. Last night I was able to get the body in a good location. I used some styrene angle and pinned it 2 places along the rockers. This is one of my major dislikes with the kit. The disc brakes (not shown, just been primed) are from Ron Coon and fit inside the wheel backs. Next up is to add a ledge to the firewall to make fitting the "glass" easier. I have to fix the battery box, or make it modular to install the battery/box as a single unit. Then I have to pin the transmission to the crossmember, the Muncie is a VCG Resins piece. I may try to improve the front motor mounts. I don't want the engine coming loose. I have a few headers to choose from.

A song of praise for the stash.

I had rhinoplasty in 2000, spent those 1st few days roughing out a pro street Chevelle. In 2016 after heart surgery, I started a chopped '48 Ford, it was good therapy. -
VCG Resins has a very nice one. I have a Turbo 350 from him.

Enamel paint won't thin

I stopped using enamel paints about 25 years ago. For brush painting, I go with Tamiya or Vallejo products. -
Ron Coon Resins order.. good stuff!
bobss396 replied to bobss396's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
He goes the extra mile for sure and always throws in a little extra part. I got the order and I'm already using some of it. -
Thanks, I was looking at Coco's Slot Car decals, someone on FB said they were not so good. I will take another look at Lobo Graphix.

Who was building in the 60s?

I got working papers when I turned 14. It was through the school district office. Most of my jobs were cash and carry. I sold flowers by the side of the road for a neighbor. Mainly spring holidays, up through Mother's Day. I cut lawns, I had a garbage picked mower that I fixed up, towed behind my bike with 1 hand. It was a junkies mentality, get enough money for the next fix, aka another model. We did chores for a disabled vet my dad knew from the Masonic lodge. At 50 cents an hour... but at age 10, we were mixing concrete and doing painting. For BIG jobs, he wrote up a formal contract that I had to sign. I signed up to scrape the rust off his front porch railing and paint it for $3. -
I like everything about it,well executed. I have 2 Southern Stocker cars in the works now. I'm using a similar cage approach with one. I rarely toss out any NASCAR kit cages. There are lots of pieces that can be used. Like going through the metals rack outside the garage when building real stock cars.

Message me your address when you get a chance. I don't want anything for them. -
I was hanging out in L.A. between 1984 and 1986. I did some "canyon carving" in a Hertz Lincoln Town car on Mulholland. You can get those bad boys in a 4-wheel drift...

What Did You See In Your Yard Today?
bobss396 replied to Tim W. SoCal's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I fell asleep on the couch, hit the bed at 2:30 am.. tossed and turned and the cat wanted attention. It is fairly normal for my garage mounted motion lights to be tripped. It could be a raccoon, a moving tree branch or a car close to my driveway. It goes for a minute and turns off. This time. 3:40 am, it is accompanied by what looks like a large light source that lights up my bedroom. So I'm out of bed, looking out the window that faces the driveway. I see someone with a flashlight walking up the neighbor's driveway, into their backyard. I see the light moving around. I can't tell who this is, my view of a car in the street is blocked. Then the person gets into what is a county cop SUV. That moves down the block with the spot light going. Obviously they are looking for someone. We have an all night gas station at the end of the block, maybe 500 feet from me. I'll try to see if it was robbed.. again. -
Quite cool. I may steal that front cage design from you. I like the MPC-ish stock car air cleaner.

Scale Auto did an article years back, I have seen it online too. It was maybe my 2nd NNL East, someone did a clinic and chopped one in all of 10 minutes. The body was marked up already.

My BBC from Jay's Resin Wheels showed up. I am impressed, nicely done and clean. I cut off the oil filter, it was in the way of something I was doing. The headers will clear the front crossmember. I need to add a fuel pump and starter. I make my own starters most of the time. I'm not sure on the front pulley system yet, looks a tad busy. I'll be using Ron Coon Resins M/T valve covers, VCG Resins Muncie and bellhousing.

All stock car items, headers, wheels, hubs. The shocks are quite nice. Distributors that are crisp and clean, valve cover breathers and some Predator carbs. FAST service too, a great guy to deal with. Oh yeah, the HDR_16 headers look like they will work on the MPC modifieds.

I'm in. Looks like a great project.
