  1. Not a great picture and still a bit dark, the bluejays showed up for breakfast.
  2. Good going. My brother retired from the US Army in 2003. He put in his 20 and took the pension. Despite having a masters degree he only made Staff Sergeant. He had and still has a way of rubbing people the wrong way.
  3. I recently opened a brownie mix that expired in 2014... what the heck... I cooked it up and it was fine. A few years ago I ran across a box of Velveeta cheese/shells family dinner. It was 5 years expired. The cheese packet was intact, so I went for it. I'm still alive and it tasted great. Canned stuff like Spam... I'd be leery of having it around in case the can finally decided to bust a seam.
  4. DoT was the worst racing movie ever made, IMO.
  5. Thanks. I'll have to do some research and have no issue doing a phantom build. I had always liked the look of those cars.
  6. Thanks for posting the flyer. We will be there Friday at 6 PM to do the set up.
  7. Those are great builds. Who made the decals? I finally found a kit from Mike's Decals, on sale.
  8. My alarm clock is likely 25 years old, it is self-aware. It sets the correct time all by itself somehow. I had to set the 3 kitchen appliance clocks, haven't done the 2 cars yet. You'd figure they would be able to do that on their own.
  9. I know Matt and he is a bit older than me. He lives out in Shelter Island, unless he has moved again. He may be at the LIARS show on the 9th. He was always at the NNL East. I like his 1/20 scale seatbelt kits, they are easier to deal with. I'm sure someone will step up to keep the line going.
  10. I was inside the house in 1979 or so. The promoters of Islip Speedway bought it and I was picking up posters for an upcoming race. I asked the daughter, she was about my age, if she ever saw anything odd there. She said no, it was all baloney. A friend of mine, his cousin lived close by and we would go to the bar on the corner, Friends Tavern. Which is long gone. The house backed up on a wide canal and had bulkheading, I forget if it had a boat house or not.
  11. Those are nice kits, I have a ton of them.
  12. My local stationary store sold them. I had a few and at least one motorized kit. They were awful, this us around 1963 or so. Pyro kits were a lot better. The ones I had were 1/32 scale. My brother had the Jersey Bounce kit, I traded it to him for Hardy Boys book I got in an Xmas gift exchange in 4th grade or so.
  13. My girlfriend was driving home from work, she works out east and takes the back roads to avoid traffic. The area is pretty rural. She comes up on a hawk who was tearing apart a live bluejay.. she stopped and the hawk looked her in the eye.. like she was next.
  14. These are shore birds by me, one will show up now and them by me. They have a distinctive call. They are also smart. I saw one hold a peanut in one claw and peck it apart to eat them. I never saw any other bird do this.
  15. This was made from a 1962-ish issue of the AMT '32 Ford molded in black. I have some rarer kits I'm my stash like a small box '57 T-bird that I'm told is rare. I have an OG '32 Ford roadster, a few '49 Mercs in the stash.
  16. The last 2 I built, recent issue kits, I had fit problems between the dash, bottom of windshield and the body under the wipers. I had to remove material from the dash and from the bottom of the windshield. The next one I will try using an older kit. But this along with the '49 Mercury and '53 Ford trucks have held up well over 60 years. I have wondered how many molds exist for a particular kit. Any guesses?
  17. I should have watched it. The Yankees and the Giants had bad evenings... I went to bed real early last night.
  18. The object of AI is to try to turn everyone into idiots and I bet there are now people parroting the cool BOSS 249 they saw on YT.
  19. My 1st was molded in gray and it was around 1963. I had another that was molded in light blue.
  20. I was listening to the GD channel on XM radio earlier in the week and marveling at how good he was on the bass. A couple days later he was gone. He will be missed. He sang well, Unbroken Chain from the Mars Hotel is a good listen. I believe he also did Box Of Rain on American Beauty.
  21. Some model mag, maybe Scale Auto had an article on chopping a '49 Merc. IIRC it was quite good. But yours is off to a good start.
  22. I have a decent stash of wheel backs. I pick up any I see at shows. In a pinch I had to make some when I had engine lathe access. Some 3D printing vendors make them, I can't think of one right now. Possibly Ron Coon but those fit stock car tires fir the most part. If you can, look at some of the AMT stock car wheel backs.
  23. This is a small farm by where my girlfriend lives. They have 2 horses, a pony and some turkeys. It is zoned for horses, etc and the properties are 1/2 acre and up. These 2 come up to the fence looking for handouts.
  24. Well done. I have to get me one of those. I had an uncle that worked for RJ Reynolds on the NASCAR promotion team. He got free Winstons... too bad lung cancer took him out somehow..
