  1. These were cool cars. My dad bought one right after WWII. Used cars and even tires were hard to come by.
  2. I like the tire packs. I use them on lots of my builds, plug and play.
  3. There were some horrid shows like Gas Monkey and Kounts Kustoms, also the rat rod shows and that Chad guy. The motorcycle build off shows were good, I'm not an OCC fan at all.
  4. Yes, I really remember that '57 kit. Now I think this is a 440 from a Charger. I've had this so long, I forgot where the body is from. The chop is nice. I have notes with it about the windshield fit. I will be gluing the trunk lid on this one. In total, I have 3 Mercs in the works.
  5. I was given this by a club member last night. This is a built up OG AMT 1st issue kit. It was never painted, just polished out. I might paint it. The interior, engine and underside is quite nice. The kit has a complete chrome tree including the Caddy sombrero caps. Tires seem to be aftermarket. Outside of paint and completing it, I'm out to be preserving the good quality of the build. The box shows wear and tear. But is intact. The price tag is $1.29 from Bamburgers. IIRC they were a Macy's NY retail affliiate.
  6. I dug this out, determined to finish up some stalled projects. This is from around 2009. Resin body. I forget who made it. Most of kit is the AMT '49 Mercury. Interior tub and hood scoop are from a '66 T-Bird. I'm not 100% sure where the engine is from. I made up a dummy floor pan from the Mercury kit since the T-Bird tub is so shallow. Wheels are from the kit, tires from Modelhaus. Trim rings I machined from aluminum rod. Firewall is aluminum sheet, actually chimney flashing. Taillights were made from a piece of red plastic from the '37 Chevy. Grille is from Norm Veber. Trunk lid is sunken for the license plate. I have a load of small parts bagged up, I'll add more from my 3D printed stash.
  7. Most iconic dealers by me are gone. The one I got my Mustang from has been around for a long time. The long standing Babylon Ford that was established in 1953 was razed about 10 years ago. The lot is just weeds. My dad bought a few cars there. We would ride up there on our bikes and get new car brochures when they came out.
  8. A bunch of other shows are impacted as well like the Kindig one. And the one from Texas, Iron Resurrection. Maybe some other channel will pick them up.
  9. I had a chance to buy one 2 years ago at a car show. $65K and no drive train. My buddies were trying to goad me into buying it.
  10. I knew a guy like Merle Connor. He was my stock car racing partner for a long time. Amazing welder, he could make anything. One of the best self-trained mechanics I have ever known. He did have some tech school under his belt. Towards the end, he couldn't decide if he wanted to be a racer or a junkie. I had to cut him loose.
  11. Try Able Locks on Sunrise Hwy over in my area. They are on the eastbound service road just west of 231. The ER lost my key and fob during my 2016 heart attack event. Able to the rescue. Ran me $145 at the time.
  12. I have the paperback set. Maybe 6 books in all. I have 1 or 2 loose ones around too. Now that I'm indoors more, I should get them out again.
  13. I read that too and bought a copy at our school book fair for like 75 cents. When I was recovering from my 2016 heart attack, I bought the whole set. Ricky's girlfriend talked him into painting it pink. The car won ? 1st prize at a show... in DesMoines, IIRC. Spoiler alert...they were returning from the show, both were killed after something broke in the suspension. The car went off a bridge and into the drink.
  14. Tamiya TS-68, NATO black is good. I also like Duplicolor Universal Flat Black, think the number is 104. Another I like is Mr. Hobby black primer.
  15. Yes, that was him. Someone else said he had retired.
  16. This is an offshoot to the existing AI thread from a couple of days ago. How would you like to have on the one that you order? Keep it clean. I'll start. It would have to have mad bartending skills, the ability to drive me around even in the rain and snow. It would need at a minimum a repertoire of at least 10,000 risqué limericks and the ability to create new ones. Of course we need some help with our models. One should be able to 3D print any part that we may need.
  17. As a kid, my dad had a sanding drum on an arbor that we used. On his drill press it made perfect wheel openings.
  18. Dogs on the loose will walk away with something like that.. or roll around in it...
  19. Funny... by my dad out east they were always on the move, as he backed up to a county park and they traveled in large groups. Right before Thanksgiving.. they vanished for some reason.
  20. Heck.. I'm holding out for one that would serve as a drinking buddy that could also drive me around. Options would be that it would have to laugh at all of my jokes... and if it could pass gas, all the better.
  21. There was a special about the trucks, maybe on the AHC channel. I have watched it 2x. I have a 1/35 scale kit and some red clay weathering stuff. This is a key element for realism. The kit is very well detailed. I will have to work on nothing else when I get into it.
  22. I did start one earlier in the year. I have the main cage completed. I'm on the fence about substituting the front of the chassis with something newer. I have some Bobby Allison decals on hand too. It would be a great tribute build.

    Ole Blue

Doug Heveron drove one of his later creations. That had mis-matched panels on it. Len put his money and efforts into only what won him races. I saw Len at some races over the years, he also was not one to invest in a lot of food, he was on the slim side.
  24. I have one of their Lemans kits started (BACK IN THE BOX...), of course another stalled project. At least that one seems to use a similar chassis to the GMP Regal. I had to add filler material to parts of the rear chassis and firewall, the gaps were large. But they build up nicely as yours did. I just got their Gray Ghost kit.
