VW BEETLE CRASH SIMULATIONS
bobss396 replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
He does a bunch of other simulations from small cars to 18 wheelers and school buses. -
Iceman Collections has a nice front and rear pro street chassis sections that you may want to look at. They are pretty well detailed.

NEW STUFF from Ron Coon Resins
bobss396 replied to TECHMAN's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I have used some of his Heim joints and like them. I will check out the rally wheels for sure. Thanks. -
I use Bondo brand from Ace Hardware. The small tubes last a long time if the cap is on tight. NAPA has a similar one, so does parts stores, 3M has one I've used before.

There was a place, FOTO EXF who did work for Mark Smakl a long time ago when he had MAS (Machined Aluminum Specialties). I looked them up and found nothing. But a place like this might be of help. We used to do some at work when we had a lab. We did a lot of board work and sometimes made new traces to fix damaged boards. Those were etched out of copper.

Found in attic

Those are worth some bucks if they are complete and in good shape. Great find. -
What decals came with the kit? IIRC, Foyt ran those.

Which would you Choose?

Always. Even Cadillacs sometimes came without AC. I saw some of those, big Buicks as well. Dealers often installed them, they were good money makers for them. -
What Did You See In Your Yard Today?
bobss396 replied to Tim W. SoCal's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I had some sort of small grasshopper on my side mirror on a 30 mile run last week. Gotta admire the strength in these things. That is a Katydid. We found some at work, we got moved to an area by the rear garage doors, we had a bug collection in a big glass jar. We lent it out to other groups. It was mint until it started to stink, the crickets we had were cannibals... one big one ate the 4 others... -

2 of my old cars have them, they really move air through the car. Vent windows were hassled out of existence by insurance companies. They were convenient for breaking into cars. -
I like it, a very obscure car. I have never run across it before.

Where can I find 1:25 scale shop tools
bobss396 replied to PHPaul's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The AMT '53 Ford truck had a decent torch set in it. The AMT '49 Mercury had hand tools in it. I had a NASCAR pit set that I sold, that had decent tool boxes in it. Look to see what VCG resins has to offer. -

Bad vinyl tops hide lots of ills. Especially the plush ones, they trap a lot of water in them and are slow to dry out. My sister had one on a '77 Impala that rotted the top of the windshield frame. Other benefits to the Nova, it has little power accessories that could potentially go bad. One plus may be AC in the hotter months, but most of them I had seen had no AC, just vents. -

They moved the headquarters from Brooklyn NY to Sarasota Florida in 2001, they are closely affiliated with the Publix chain. They are still family owned. -
I got a Lemans kit, same series. Which I realized was "modeled" after the GMP and or Monogram Buick Regal kits. I had to make some mods to the firewall and rear wheel tubs to close up large gaps. I should pick up a 442 kit myself... I have probably close to 30 stalled builds in my queue.

I like the Nova myself. For sure an HEI conversion to make it more reliable. How handy are you? This also comes into play. The only downside to the Nova would be if it had drum brakes up front. Discs are way more easier to work on and stop a ton better than drums. Junkyard parts through 1972 are the same, 1973 the suspension changed. Worst case, aftermarket kits are available. Radial tires are a must have. -
That along with the "180 degree cookbook". Prison hot water is HOT....

Very well done. I have a few of those too, IIRC Toys R Us had a run of those around 1999. I probably have every issue of the '36 less the Flower Power one. I did build that as a kid.

Most wheels came in black, so that is my best guess as well.
