  1. I was a a big fan of his on YT. Definitely a guy who will be missed.
  2. I may have one of those old lanterns in my garage, I never liked fussing with the white gas part of it. I can see why you want to keep it and you should. I have the old propane family lantern from around 1967 and it works, I bought one for myself around 1985 when I started camping again.
  3. Mantles are easy to come by and it never hurts to have spares. They keep until they are fired up, I have had few survive once they were used. They are fragile. Mine is propane, yours uses white gas, aka Coleman fuel. I have seen it in stores. I would give it a good cleaning, I'm not sure if it has o-rings in it or not. Parts are available. https://www.oldcolemanparts.com/select-your-model-here/SELECT-LANTERN-MODEL/models-1-thru-300/243-s/243A/ Edit: These are worth some bucks even as it. My advice, sell it and get a propane model. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=coleman+243a+lantern&_sacat=16034&_odkw=coleman+243a+lantern&_osacat=16034
  4. I back up to state land and I used to see fox now and then. I even saw a momma fox with 4 little ones with her. Also raccoon families.
  5. The AMT '65 Ford kit has one in it.
  6. That is likely a JnJ decal sheet. I have at least one around. Crown gas stations were around, I would say at least in 1977, then they were gone.
  7. Can't miss with black and red... those were the golfer Lee Trevino's colors when he was playing.
  8. I stopped using car polishing compounds, one I used has a silicone in the ingredients and I couldn't get the decals to stick to the body. My go-to is toothpaste. I'm using an Arm & Hammer one currently.
  9. My yard was a mess when I moved in almost 38 years ago. I had all sorts of weeds taller than me. Also Queen Ann's Lace wild flowers. I was out back and marveled at how big of a bee was hovering over them... 2nd look and it was a humming bird. I have a feeder set up now and then over the years, I refresh the nectar mix... but have not seen one since. My girlfriend has a large piece of property out east and north of me, she has a great supply of hummingbirds.
  10. Re-skinning older cars was a common practice back in the day. All of that is out the window with the new Cup cars. In 1966, Bobby Allison petitioned NASCAR to be able to use a Holman Moody front clip under his 1964 Chevelle, they said NO. So he laid one out on the garage floor in chalk and built his own. This was The #2 car. It won quite a bit over some fast "factory" built cars.
  11. I have a few mockingbirds, they stay to the ground like the robins. They don't mix with the birds that eat the seed and peanuts I put out. My one neighbor had a nest of mockingbirds outside his bedroom window in a tree.... they made a racket all night long. He finally took the tree down.
  12. A few more of the little ladies, they turn 1 in about 3 weeks.
  13. I just put out food for the birds and a flock of mourning doves came in. I counted at least 12 of them. The bottom shot is bluejay feathers I picked up, they must groom themselves. I found a bunch of pin feathers as well. They should be molting soon... man do they look ugly for a while.
  14. I have a can on order I got on eBay, finally some decent volume of it has arrived. Definitely the most expensive can of "paint" I have ever bought.
  15. I opened one up about a year ago... I had built one a long time ago in my teens. I was hugely disappointed with the kit, the interior tub you'd be stuck with unless some kitbashing was done. I was going to do a '55 gasser build-off with my brother and picked up an AMT sedan kit, worlds better over the Monogram kit.
  16. When you have doubts about something, make up a "test" piece out of an old body part. See how long that takes to dry and when you can start sanding it. Drying time depends on humidity, temperature, etc. You can still make up that sample piece if you can wait a few extra days.
  17. To this day it is staggering that Penske got these cars to go fast and WIN...
  18. This is the time of year that I see the old coots at cruise nights trying to sell their cars.... and run to Florida. I passed on a nice '55 Chevy last year. A few years ago I saw a '34 Ford hot rod up for $45k that must have cost $90k or more to build. It had been a magazine car at some point, flawless. Maybe there will be deals to be had, buying the market dip. This may lure in some younger people into the hobby. I don't know too many "kids" dripping in dough. Not that I was at age 35. I was building my nest-egg starting at age 28 and did without lots of things I could have had. Us older folk were steeped in the car culture. Detroit cranked out very cool cars until the gas crunches and insurance put the brakes on cars like the factory LS6 Chevelles. Look at the '88 Corvettes, they were embarrasingly anemic. Nobody wants or knows how to restore a car so it becomes an asset. The ROI is low unless you do all your own work. Time will tell when and where the market will hit bottom.
  19. I dunno... the post on a spilled bottle of liquid glue has gone the same route...
  20. I cut them out and make a new one, I have used ribbed RR siding for one I have in the works.
  21. I run my dehydrator at a flat 105. It has a dial, but I double check it with a candy thermometer just to be sure. My old one that had the house dimmer switch, I made a "sticker" in CAD and printed it on clear acetate, held on with double face clear tape. I have never melted anything, I have read that you have to be careful with delicate 3D printed materials.
  22. I used the Starliner engine in another build, I forget what it was, maybe a 352? It had good detail to it being a new tool kit. Another great engine is the 427 from the AMT '65 Ford.
  23. If nail polish can be shot through it, any paint should be okay with it. I'd be concerned about keeping the innards clean and if replacement parts are available. When I have used airbrushes, I recall 15 pis being a good number to work with.
  24. Having a dehydrator has been a game changer for me. I'm on my 2nd one, my modified Magic Chef took a dump on me a while back. I can color-sand in a few hours, between coats. I paint mostly rattle can lacquers and Tamiya TS sprays.
