  1. I saw an Oriole a few days ago. Very rare in my area and very early to see one.
  2. The old NASCAR kits had decent engines in them. Another I like is the 427 in the 1965 Ford kit.
  3. I have the custom version started. Another BACK IN THE BOX!! Wonder. Yours sits just right. I did my 1st one around 1966, the first model I painted with spray paint.
  4. I'd like to do one, really drop it into the weeds. Those old Ford "cow belly" chassis (through 1964) were used under many stock cars. The front cross member gave them great strength.
  5. I definitely have to add brass fabrication and soldering to my skill set. I did a lot of soldering at one machine shop I worked at. Silver soldering too. We used torches, irons and hot plates. What are you using for an iron? I definitely want to get a hot plate too. We used Stay-Silv paste flux.
  6. I still have mine, it was called The Pie Wagon. Also the red Thames coupe, Skippers Critter. They are not in great shape at all. I also picked up some glue bombs, I'd like to resurrect both of them.
  7. I had a bicycle shop close by, it had a toy section with tons of models. That side of the store used to be a men's shop when I was real young. $2 kits were $1.77, $1.50 kits were $1.27 and the old AMT pink-gray annuals were 99 cents. They had Detail Master parts... too advanced for us back then. I was 10 when I made the quantum leap to the new AMT spray paints, a total game changer. Just about everyone I knew built models. There could be 4 or 5 of us outside building on a picnic table in the shade. We did anything to support our styrene habit. Cutting lawns, chores, collecting bottles, etc.
  8. Enamel have been out for me for decades. Spray or brush, there are better things. Car touch up paints are my general go to. I like Tamiya sprays, but have to be careful with polishing them. They go on thin and are softer than lacquers.
  9. I have 2 crows that show up when I feed the birds. Just now and then. Yesterday the bluejays were dive bombing them, which didn't stop them.
  10. 60 F early thus morning. Looks like a nice day so far. I got the pool open and about half the garden planted.
  11. I was on my own for building models. My dad had an OG 1936 Ford coupe in a box on top of the kitchen cabinets... out of our reach. It was a nice build, no paint, molded in gray. It was never finished. My mom helped me with a few things I had trouble with when I was around 8 on a 1949 Mercury.
  12. I love orange cats. I had one when I was around 8. He was the twin to Oliver. Mine my mom named Curry, as in the spice.
  13. I like it. I'll have to try that orange paint. I have a set of belts to do, I may go the masking tape route.
  14. I'm doing a '56 as a figure 8 stock car, another BACK IN THE BOX! special ATM. Doors are glued shut of course. That was a kit that always built up well. If I do another, the doors will open, but I'll make the hinges for it.
  15. You should look to move to a better paint. The only good thing about enamels is, they are usually easy to remove. Not too many places sell them lately. One that you should look at is the Extreme Lacquer line. You need a good automotive grade primer under them.
  16. I bought one of his engine kits, I asked about buying an intake and headers from another kit. He just put them in the mail, no charge.
  17. VERY nice. I'll say it again, the '30 is a good choice. The Revell '32 5 window was a pain in the biscuit to chop and have it look right. I'll have to dig mine out. I also have a nicely done chopped '30 coupe body, resin caster unknown.
  18. We have an abundance of raccoons, possums and fox colonies. I back up to state land that goes down to the Great South Bay. I used to have rabbits 🐇. The fox makes short work of those. A few weeks ago I heard the Bluejays flipping out. So I look and see them harassing some sort of a hawk. I'm seeing more and more hawks around.
  19. Not thicker that I have noticed. Behaves like most others like Extreme Lacquer gloss clear. It dries fast enough. I've polished it out in 4 hours Per the can instructions the recoat window is 20 minutes. This is a product made for 1:1 body shop touch ups and jamb paintings.
  20. I used to order his Ford and Dana rears just to be able to harvest the u-joints. I asked him if he would sell me some. He shipped me a few... no charge. He now sells them on his site. He has thrown in small parts with orders now and then.
  21. My Revell '32 5-window chop was a ton more involved than yours.. well done!
  22. Around 1963, for my birthday I would get a few cards in the mail from aunts .. nice crisp $1 bills. At times I would amass a fortune of $3. My dad worked at Grumman and would pass a hobby shop on his way home. The kits were $1.09, I gave my dad a $1 bill .. he kicked in the rest. I'd ask him to get whatever they had, I gave him a short list. Usually something like a '40 or '36 AMT Ford.
  23. I took 5 projects to a club meeting last night. I'm thinking of breaking one out of the pack just to get the 1st one done in over a year.
  24. I've been using this for a while, of course with lacquer only. I heat it up in hot water, sprays great and it tolerates a heavy hand.
  25. I would think so. I don't recall where the battery box was exactly (trunk for sure) what size battery it took. But it was cool to have one with working lights in 1965 or 1966.
