I cut Norm a lot of slack, he is no spring chicken but seems to be in good health. He used to make a lot of bigger shows, but one good show wipes out his inventory. And he winds up selling me his display pieces at times. This is a natural progression. The casters that used that tan diesel-smelling resin are slowly going away. Guys like Norm started using that white resin that can be cast very thinly. Plus it takes a lot of knowledge to get the masters and molds just right. The molds last only so long. Now we are onto 3D printing, which has revolutionized the hobby. Files can be shared, bought or created with a learning curve. -

I was hoping for something a little better than the old style chassis. -

AMT/ROUND 2 1964 Chevrolet Malibu SS

I saw an open kit last week. I was hoping for new tooling. The body was quite nice. The Revell '65 chassis may be an improvement under the body. -
Black Widow

Likely not, the BW was originally bought out for street use with the Fuel Injection to give it a healthy 283 HP.- 20 replies

New Landy shop.

The body shop always caught my eye. I have dined at Sangria71 a few times. There was another Spanish place across the street that had changed hands. -
tips, tools for one handed builds

I have enough problems building with TWO hands.... -
I forgot that AMT did the '56 kit. Not that I'm looking for another kit to add to the stash.... I would hope it is a lot better than the '57 kit. Which was 100% groovy for me back around 1964.

That stuff he makes is SMALL... probably time to break in a new seeing dog... yeah, that's it.

Black Widow
bobss396 replied to bbowser's topic in WIP: Stock Cars (NASCAR, Super Stock, Late Model, etc.)
That is an iconic race car that was likely raced on the Daytona beach course. There used to be a Black Widow book or pamphlet around with all details that went into the one Chevy dealers offered.- 20 replies

I pass that area often, up on 25. I have to keep an eye out for the dealer. -

Me, I would sit in the AC and snack on pain meds and adult beverages... Netflix to the rescue. -
Do you also have 1:1 project cars?
bobss396 replied to ctruss53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was driving around in my '20 Mustang yesterday while chasing parts. Heated and cooled seats... AC... blue tooth, XM radio... one does tend to get spoiled. Back in the day, if we had an old car with AC.. it was a miracle if it worked at all. So we got to where we were going bathed in sweat. -
The top added material looks quite good. Me personally, I would consider the AMT '56 Ford chassis. Maybe on your next one? You have a lot of work in this one.

I had an interior set on order from a Chevy parts supplier (I opened a BBB complaint with them) and the sales guy said I'd have the set by June 15th. Then I get an email, now it is Sept, 9th. I was able to cancel the order and get a refund. The cloth pattern is not factory but looks good. The actual factory patterns are hard to come by and often are made to order. Classic Industries quoted me 10-14 weeks. -

Thanks. In 1975 I had a 4-door Caprice hardtop that I got for $75. That was a solid runner. -
So I go for an angiogram on 7/18. My heart doctor will be doing it at a hospital that does my infusions. The place where I had my bypass is under construction and is chaotic. There are 2 areas with poor blood supply, so I'm in the market for stents. The bypass areas are doing well, those are fine. I had blood work done too, he even took me off Lipitor. That went from 20 mg to 10 and now I am off it. I hope to have my Belair interior back together before that.

He was riding the adrenaline rush without a doubt. I think and hope that he will be okay. Watching the video, it shows parts coming off the car. These take the crash-energy forces away with them, a good thing.

Imagine some 9 year old kid building one... which was my age when I did my first one. I didn't know what I didn't know back then and had fun with it.

Something like that needs to be restrained. I'll clamp it down to a thick piece of plastic, use a scale as a guide. Then I "chop" it with a sharp flat blade.

Thanks, it has "fixed" rust issues but I'm going to run it. The door cards look new, getting the arm rests done too. I took the rear ash trays out, gave them a citric acid soak to get the rust off. I coated them with 1K clear so they are smooth inside. In just 5 weeks it is a different car already. The gauge cluster is a hot mess on the back side. So I'm looking to do that over and since I need access to the oil sending unit, I'll be doing new plug wires at the same time. I may have to pull the distributor out. The new dimmer switch is installed. -
It was a different formula and I could shoot it outside in the real cold, no blush issues.

I have a couple of those, the stock and custom versions. I built the stock one around 1967 and it was one of the first ones I used the old AMT spray paint on. Some sort of metallic red. Of course the chassis and interior were painted with the Testors #49 flat black brush paint. And silver for the accents.
