  1. Stick a fork in me, I'm just about done. I have a Pinto modified with sudden issues, should have headed one big one off, but rushing to make a show. I got 2 pro-street builds with problems. So with 5 projects going, I'm going to finish only 2 by Saturday.
  2. Shabos, they are hard to come by. I have quite a bit but they have a shelf life. Older ones don't work so well, to get a set of 4 successful ones, I may waste 1 or 2. I used to pick them up at shows mostly, also eBay. Try this one guy in Michigan, Model Empire. He sells at shows but has an eBay store. If you don't see them, give him a call. Thanks on the TS-71, I will add it to my wish list. I have a couple of Dullcote cans, but not sure if Testors still makes them.
  3. I built most as a kid, never liked the F85 version and never ran across the Tempest. I have a built-up OG issue Rat Packer that needs to be salvaged. The Falcon is a good reason to buy the "64 Galaxie combo kit. I have seen the Comet recently on the shelves. Is the '53 Studebaker out? I don't recall that when I was a kid. I did build the Edsel complete with the outhouse door.
  4. I like Powerslide decals, they always went on well for me. I pick them up from Mike's Decals, either by mail or at shows.
  5. That was it. Win on Sunday, sell on Monday. The series did have an impact on car sales.
  6. I will have to try this. Is there a brand of paint you prefer?
  7. This is about what I do. I wash the tires with hot soapy water, scuff the sidewalls lightly with scotchbrite, sand the treads. I use mainly Shabo tire transfers. I have Good Year varieties, Firestone, Hoosier and McCrearys. I have used tire decals that come with the tires, they work well. I have had some damaged in the packaging of the tires. I use the overnight rule in lots of things, the tire decals fall into this. I then take them outside and put a light coat of Dullcote spray to protect the decals or transfers. Too heavy and the transfers get muddy and blur. I used to use 2 coats spaced out, now I find that 1 is good enough.
  8. Wow, I'm digging this build. I have to get mine out soon. I have had a 2-tone paint phobia for a long time. I tend to avoid doing them. BUT... I just did one on a stock car build recently. I picked up a roll of 6 MM Tamiya tape with the dispenser. Looks like this phobia is a thing of the past.
  9. One guy in my club tried it and it came out nicely. The acrylic pens work well, get one with a small tip. I would try the Dullcote on a scrap piece first. I use the spray cans type over Shabo tire transfers.
  10. Pop-out windshields used to be a safety thing. I still pass the site of the 1st car accident I saw every day, probably in 1964. It was by a supermarket exit. A car was exiting and a car on the road (a '58 Ford) hits it directly on a front fender on the front wheel. The windshield on the Ford does pop out... it skips over the hood of the other car, keeps on going, skips along the pavement and comes to a stop. It never fell over or cracked. The trim and gasket were still attached to it.
  11. I broke a bottle as a kid, using dad's workshop vise and of course vise-grip pliers.
  12. My sister used them in her doll house years ago. Lately, my little feral cat likes to play with them.
  13. I'm looking forward to building one. It is like a blank canvas, anyone can build one which was me when I was 12 or so. I need to get a break from the Frankenstein builds I have been doing for too long. The wheels are quite nice, so are the front tires.
  14. This is our first show since 2019 and a lot of work has gone into making it happen. All of the vendor tables are sold out, we are expecting a good turn out of modelers and models. Please try to make it if you can. https://www.liarsmodelcarbuilders.com/_files/ugd/fc9717_9b7bb038cd1e46158f1dc13e9b19f246.pdf
  15. I had grabbed a shopping cart load of the OG Louisville Haulers as a close out store for $4.99 each. This was around 2002 or so. I made a total killing with them on eBay.
  16. I use acrylic while craft paints, they are like $1 to $2 for a squeeze bottle at any craft store. Look at those pens as well, I used one on a recent set of tires.
  17. I learned to use a primer around 1997-1998 so I could use hotter paints. I did ruin a few car bodies as a kid shooting some of my dad's paints I found in the garage. Fast forward to today, even the new car touch-up paints are not as "hot" as they used to be. I have to try a sample of Duplicolor on some scrap plastic. It is a rare build that does not have something like a couple of sink marks to fix. Back in the old AOL hobby board days, we used to go back and forth about the use of primer in general and I learned that the final body flaws are fixed up in the priming process. Lately with odds and ends like front end parts, I'll shoot the paint on bare plastic. I do wash most of them to get the mold release, etc off them. 3D printed parts do well without primer.
  18. If they show up, I'll see what they have for the future. I just like the old street stock and bomber cars. The 1st duty of a junkie is to protect his stash.
  19. I had heard about things called "wolf" crickets. My cat was chasing after one a few nights ago. I got up to see what it was... holy carp.... I gave it a few tries to stomp on it, but it jumped out of the way. I finally dropped a box on it... squish.
  20. As a teen we would hang out at a local cemetery and drink beer, smoke whatever we had. Just lean back on a headstone and relax. We never saw anything odd going on.
  21. I was around 13 at the time. Until I got into a model club in 1998, I had never heard of priming a model. I took a break from building models from 1973 to 1995.
  22. Love the paint, I will have to try some of their candy colors.
  23. It is still a nice kit. I have an OG one built from 1969 in a box in my closet. It was molded in light blue. I never saw the need to paint it, but I was 14 at the time.
  24. Good idea to get fit woes tackled early on. I see more than a few guys who paint the body first and are in a pickle down the road.
  25. I will possibly be seeing some reps from Atlantis on Saturday at our show. I'm not sure how far up the food chain they are. But I'm going to pitch for a line of Saturday Night stock cars. Like street stocks and bomber cars seen on small short tracks. Candidates would be a Nova, Chevelle, Mustang, Camaro, etc.
