Tried one a few years ago. The darn thing stayed sticky for weeks. And it wrinkled when I cleared. Some have had better luck. It might be hit-or-miss due to quality of the tattoo decal?

Well this makes two models completed this year. I can't remember the last time I did this. This build features the 50 F-100 cab, interior, grill and some of the hood. The headlights are 39 Chevy, but the buckets are 53 Stude. The 426 engine is from MPC's 67 Charger. The chassis, bed, front suspension, and steering are all scratch built. This has dozens of parts box parts. I'm real pleased with the way it turned out. Hope you like it.

YES! Just remember that Duplicolor IS a lacquer. You must prime well and completely or evil, bad, nasty stuff will happen. I've been using Duplicolor nearly exclusively for a while now.

I have rotated the fenders backward. I'm pleased with the way they look now.

After watching these hairspray weathered trucks come about, I've gotta say the hairspray looks much better on a beater work truck than a weathered rod. The work truck is gonna take a beating, gonna be dinged and chipped and battered. The neglected, weathered car .... not so much. I think the salt technique does a much better job replicating authentic weathering and rust thru's. Regardless, your constant experimentation has been an inspiration to many builders. Thanks very much.

Sometimes it's funny how models can ...........evolve. Over time or just due to circumstance. You might remeber this one. Inspired by one of Cranky's rods it used a 57 Fairlane front end as a rear and had some wicked crazy headers. This is the point I'd gotten to when I set it on the shelf for more brainstorming. There were things I'd done that seemed like a good idea at the time, but after a while...................irritated me. The rear wheel openings for instance. They looked fine as a front end on the Fairlane, but reversed............not so much. And the headers.............ugh. So after some brainstorming and scratchbuilding here's where we are now. I'd really like to hear comments and critisisms on this one. I know "trucksters" have become hated by many folks, but I feel I've deviated from the average rat rod. Whatcha think?

Tim can I ask why you're using brush paints and not sprays? What you've got there is a really good effort. Keep at it.

A few years back I'd asked some folks on a forum (SA I think) if anyone had ever taken a newer vehicle and made a REAL retro. Add a flattie, wide whites, dummy spots etc. Everyone puts new tech in old cars, why not the reverse? The responce, was near unanimous. They all thought I was nuts. Thought you aughta know.

Well in a pinch you can grab a yard sale sign from your local hardware store. Pretty thin stuff. Your local comic book store may sell dividers for comic book boxes. They are made of styrene and are thicker than the sign. Harold, I'm sure your LHS isn't the only show in town. Call around some. Lastly there is mail order. Plastruct has their own site and you can order direct.

I think most of us start a built with an idea or theme. At least I do. When the idea or theme has been lost in a ton of added detail, it's too much. The theme becomes - "check out all the detail and never mind the build as a whole or the vehicle it represents". Just my $.02
