  1. I thought I was the only one who looked at price stickers and went into remembrance mode. In some cases it's looking at '60's or 70's purchase price then realizing what the same reissue is selling for today and other times it is being reminded of old shops now long gone and other times its looking at a sticker and being reminded of where the kit was found in some unexpected store or during some trip many years ago. Maybe this is something that only makes sense to "old timer" modellers. robw
  2. I did one in yellow and mine never gave me the impression of being to short. Perhaps it was the color and lack of windshield that is giving you that impression. robw
  3. Nothing wrong with redoing things when they don't turn out the way you wanted. And in this case whatever you had to return turned out well because this is a beautiful job. You made all the right choices. robw
  4. I agree with the last two posters ARC is the best and friendliest aircraft forum that I've been on.
  5. -Corvette Stingray Racer with p/e -Shinoda-Mears C4 -2010 Grand Sport conv do you see a theme beginning to develop? -any other Corvette concept that has not been kitted
  6. If you want lonely. I'm the only modeller in a town of 500 located on the prairies of Canada. My nearest hobby shop, model club or even fellow modeller is almost 150 miles away. I'm sure there are others in as bad a position and I truly understand their loneliness and feel sorry for you. Been modelling for 50 years and at least the relatively recent invention of the internet has allowed me to have some contact to fellow builders. rob
  7. I've expected to see lacquer thinner disappear for several years so have been stocking up for several years, buying a can periodically when I would go to the hardware. If my tool shed were to ever catch fire it would be one heck of a blaze but at least I have enough to last me for several years. Been stocking up on incandescent bulbs before they disappear as well. Our hobby may be in greater danger of disappearing because of the banning of the many products we use then the lack of modellers. Hey maybe I am a hoarder after all......but its for a good reason. robw
  8. Never was a seller on ebay but was a steady buyer. Being from the cold north few older kits are available here other then ebay but I quit buying a couple of years ago for the following reasons, in no particular order : -ever increasing shipping costs -fewer & fewer sellers willing to ship outside the US -the introduction of PayPal as the only way to pay It would seem that both buyers and sellers have good reason to be upset with what has increasingly become just a big greedy corporation. robw
  9. Yes I stocked up for years before retirement, I just didn't realize that was the reason. While I've been retired for nearly five years and I'm now building faster then I did before there are still new kits coming out that I must have, so my buying rate still seems to be growing faster then my building rate. As for stocking up on paints etc, remember that the faster you build the faster you'll go through all the disposables. Buy the expensive stuff before you retire like the tools, airbrush, compressor, paint booth etc those are the things that will last well into your retirement. robw
  10. He's not always the fastest but he's a nice guy, very honest and you will get what you've ordered. I've bought from him many times and have never been disappointed. He also carries a lot of stuff that you won't find elsewhere. Order with confidence. robw
  11. I have two large double closets full of kits, an attic full and an 8x10 shed full to the rafters. In all far more then I can build in the lifetime left to me. While I've slowed down my buying in the last couple of years I haven't and won't completely quit buying more. Does that make me a hoarder or collector or is the difference between these two words just a matter of semantics. While the former has been given the status of someone with some kind of problem the term collector still suggests someone with a sincere interest in what we are collecting. One could even suggest that as soon as a kit is built it is no longer a collectible and when you see how hoarders seem to treat what they have gathered that doesn't seem like any modeller I know. I've come to a revelation, I'm neither! I'm just a model builder who still has a lot of kits to build, perhaps more then I have time to build but that's just a miscalculation on my part. robw
  12. There is also a decal maker called Greg's Racing Graphics that has a few sets for both the Ford and the Offy Midgets. (He has a website but I've never ordered from him) The VRM decals, I'm sure will be great though since the quality of all their sheets are top grade. robw
  13. Yes, the Stylus is my choice for a dremel. Since I got mine a few years ago I haven't picked up the old one. And you're right I put it back on the charger base maybe once or at the most twice a year. robw
  14. Great looking piece of work. I'm red, white & blue with envy. robw

    P.P.F

Look forward to seeing this one built. Currently have the Fujimi 348 on my bench but its just going to be a very dull black colour rather then eye popping pink. robw
  16. I would love a few of these to display my models on but not at this price. Maybe Revell and Round2 should consider reproducing them and selling them separate from the kits themselves. robw
  17. Been doing that for many years. I sign it, date when it was finished, indicate the company who made the kit, the stock number and what the model is. Don't know whether anyone will ever read the info but it is interesting to think that years from now someone might take it apart and wonder who I was. robw
  18. You've realized the dream of many of us. A space large enough to store almost everything plus sufficient workspace to spread everything out. I have a dream when I win a lottery, hunt down a real estate man with a simple message I don't care how big the house is but I need a heated workshop of at least 2000 square feet. Your space is great and I'm sure you'll put it to good use. robw
  19. If you found that then for God's sake hide it somewhere else and don't tell anyone where you put it. My eyes hurt!!! robw
  20. Model Express was carrying them but he appears to be sold out since he's removed the image from his website. You could try emailing Dennis to find out whether he is bringing more in. robw
  21. I agree, its a great song that never grows old. Gordon Lightfoot and his music is one of Canada's most under valued musical treasures. rob
  22. Blue sky and bright sunshine here in western Canada and even the wind has died down, of course the temp is -31C and last night with the wind it was equivalent to nearly -40 (the point where C & F meet). With all this nasty weather on the continent instead of having a 24hr we should have a snow build where all models must be painted white. My new mantra.....summer is coming.....summer is coming....summer is coming..... robw
  23. I built the Get Smart Sunbeam as a factory street car a number of years ago and found the same problem with the high front end. I did some work to lower it (can't remember what now)but still think that to much of the suspension is visible. I still have the Tiger version in the Blueprinter release in the stash to build someday. This would be a nice kit for Round2 to reissue someday. With its club racer heritage it should be popular among modellers wanting to do competition cars. robw
  24. Already have mine ordered....whahoo ! I'd like to see a promo or even better a kit of the new Corvette Grand Sport. Since the return of promos is based on the new Round 2 curbside molds I don't think that it's likely that we will see a Z06 or ZR1 promo. That might change if the two Round 2 curbside Corvette kits sell like crazy and the company realizes that there is a market for them as well as the promos. robw
  25. Yes that's the body from the ROG BMW 3/15PS DA-1 kit. It was originally a Heller kit in 1/24 scale. It was the first car that BMW built after they took over the Dixi Autoworks in 1928. Dixi had a license from Austin to build their Austin 7's for sale in Germany. Within a few years the license expired, BMW didn't renew it and began to build their own designs. Since the Dixi body was a nearly exact replica of the Austin 7 you're safe in referring to it as an Austin body. Revell reissued the kit in '04 but it doesn't show up very often which is unfortunate since it's a neat little kit to build with a very accurate looking front suspension setup. robw
