  1. Pics are courtesy of http://www.carnut.com/ It's always a great source of stock and custom pics for just about everything imaginable...
  2. VERY NICE, Mike!! I really like the engine details and the serious tubs!!!
  3. Well, it looks like its time to start building a bunch of late 50's stock cars!!! Let's see...for the 50 year anniversary of the ’58, who raced what? Or we could all just do a bunch of "what if's" Sounds like a plan to me!!
  4. Is that an old Protar kit, or did Revell tool up one as well?
  5. Good and interesting point on the Chryslers, Mark!! If you look at some of the photos of 57 Chrysler cars you can see that they used the same headlamp opening, but with single and dual headlamps in each.
  6. Yep, Harry pretty much nailed it. I have a compressor and an airbrush, somewhere out in the garage...but I actually prefer using the Tamiya and Testors lacquer spray cans, mostly because I hate having to fire up the noisy compressor and clean the airbrush when I’m done...but that's all good conversation for another topic... For brushed on paint, typically used for detailing small parts and features, I prefer the Tamiya acrylic paint in the small bottles. You can thin it with water or Isopropyl Alcohol (aka: IPA and rubbing alcohol). It's really great paint for kids because the smell isn't too bad and it can be cleaned with water or IPA when they spill it or get it on their hands. For an 8yr old, I'd probably start him out with a snap kit. The advantage is they're easier and faster to build for impatient youngsters who want instant gratification. I’d also show him pictures of the in-process and finished models posted here on the forum. Good luck,
  7. To the best of my knowledge, '57 was the first year for quad headlights on Chrysler. GM and Ford followed in '58. You can check some of the pics at http://www.carnut.com/photo/list/flist.html if you want to be sure. Regards,
  8. Looking good, Brendan!! a few more decals and no one will know that you painted the body white!!
  9. There you go, Eric, another problem solved. What's next? You gotta just love this place!!
  10. Cody, I think that you're supposed to clear them before you apply them. If you don't get good responses from someone who knows better, send a message to my friend Hossain Salimi. He's listed on the forum as Hossalimi. There's nobody I know that's better at applying decals, including the carbon fiber stuff. He can answer your questions and provide all the tips that you'll need to get the job done well. Regards,
  11. Nice tip, Lyle!! Thanks for sharing!!
  12. Eric, What paint did you use for the wash? (Brand/type) What did you use to thin it? That may be why you didn't like the results. Some thinners will attack the paint and leave a lot more of the wash behind than you intended. I like using the Tamiya acrylic paints for my washes. They thin with either water or Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol from the drug store). When thined with water, you can often wash it off (if you catch it quickly) if you don't like the affect. For interior parts, I often spray a light coat of Testors Dull Coat on before the wash. After the wash is applied I'll lightly rub the top surfaces of the parts with a mild 3M scuff pad. That leaves the wash in the recesses and gives various shades of "wear" to the highlights. Regards,
  13. Cool "concept" car, Steve!! I'm sure that it looks great sitting next to your '57 Chevy Black Widow!!
  14. Nice build, Steve!! Very clean!!
  15. Thanks for the extra pics, Steve!!! That is some really nice looking chrome work!!
  16. Funny cars are just too cool!!! Nice builds!!
  17. That's looking great, Eric!! I wish that I had known you needed spark plug wire. I'd have dropped some in with the windshield. Check out Scale Modeling by Chris for hot rod and dragster detail parts: http://www.scalemodelingbychris.com/page_two.htm He's got some pretty cool stuff and his prices are reasonable. Regards,
  18. That looks like you're off to a great start!!
  19. Another nice looking build!! Keep up the great work and the posts!!
  20. Very nice detail!! I'm not one for pink, but I guess it follows the theme...
  21. Welcome, John!! I also build military models, primarily 1/35th scale WWII stuff. I also build some Sci-Fi stuff, mostly SF3D and Star Wars kits.
  22. Nice, clean build there, Bud!! The BMF work looks great!! How about some engine pics?
  23. Nice weathering...not overdone!!
  24. I agree with almost all of the above...the paint and the opening doors/trunk are GREAT!! I agree with John that the roll bar is a bit too big/tall for the car, but as far as the overall height of the car goes, there is no such thing as a gasser that sits too high!! How about some chassis pics?! I'd love to see the chrome work!!
  25. That's looking good, Steve!! Once you add a couple pounds of BMF it'll really look sharp!!
