I have to agree with all of the others...that is REALLY NICE!!!
-
When I though that I was done with this model a couple of weeks ago I posted it "Under Glass" and put it away in my display case. The problem was that I did so few body mods to it that it just didn't say "SVT" or "Cobra" to me. Thanks to suggestions from many of you, and the spare hood that Revell had provided in the kit, I finally got this one to a point where I'm happy with it and can call it DONE. Here's the link to the original post if you want to see the detailed interior and engine pics. Here are a few pics of the new hood: (in process and completed). I took most of the hump out of the middle of the Cobra hood insert and took the peak out of the horizontal portion of the Merc hood. I thought that more closely matched the way the roof design is peaked in the front and quickly flattens out towards the rear. Well, any additional mods at this point will have to be done to one of the other Merc kits that I have waiting in the closet... Regards,

Mike, First, that is one really nice build of one of my favorite Road Runner body styles!! EXCELLENT!! Second, I agree fully with your comments regarding the forum, friends and family members. My wife just chuckles when she see me sitting for hours working on a model that will eventually find a place in my overcrowded display cases... Keep up the GREAT work and the posts!! Regards,

Good job, Lyle!! Looks like I'll have to get one when they're available. It'll look great sitting with my new Danbury Mint Hirohata Merc (even though the scales are a little bit different...). Regards,

That looks really nice, Lyle!! Do you have pics from the rear angles? Did you correct the location of the rear end of the door panel line with respect to the door opening?

This build is a combination of the Revell/Model King 43 Willys Gasser Pickup and the Revell 41 Willys Stone, Woods & Cook Gasser. Since the chassis, engine, drivetrain and just about everything in the 41 kit is so much nicer, I'm using all of it for my pickup. Here are a couple pics of the engine and chassis detail: I was going to use one of the Aluminum moon tanks, but after seeing how little of it shows once the body is on the chassis, i decided to just strip the chrome off of the kit tank and paint it with Rub & Buff Aluminum. I'll save the Aluminum tank for a model where it can be seen better... I need to repaint the scoop. Too much handling while I was adding some of the details rubbed just a bit too much of the Rub & Buff Aluminum off of it... I still need to add the throttle linkage to the rear of the Hilborn 4 port injector base. The engine and chassis in the 41 Revell Willys drag kits is so nice that I bought several "spares" for other projects!! Here's a pic of the body and hood after a base coat of paint. I reshaped the hood opening to match the shape of the scoop from the Stone, Woods & Cook Willys, and I opened the headlamp openings to fit 41 Willys headlamp assemblies. I'm thinking of painting the top portion of the truck bright yellow, just above the beltline molding. If I do, I'll also paint the bed cover the same color. Suggestions? RJP

My Christmas Present To Myself

Thanks, Bobby!!! For prospective, can you get a quick photo with a model sitting in it? Also, after you've had a chance to try it out, i'd be very interested in your opinion regarding how well it worked and any difficulties in painting the body that way. Regards, -
Thanks for the chassis pics, Dave. If I have time, i'll post pics of my chassis later today in the "on the bench" section. Right now I'm busy painting the body parts...

I like the look!! I have a small backyard diorama base that I use for photographing this type of model. It really helps add to the "I built it at home" look. Keep up the good work and the posts!!

Eric, I dropped the front & rear glass, still on the sprue, it the mail this morning. You should get it some time early next week. I like the look!! Very sinister!!

My Christmas Present To Myself

How much does that cost and how big is it? Thanks, -
I agree!! The overall scheme, the paint and the motor look great!!! I'd also change the front wheels...the out-of-scale spokes just don't hold up to the level of the rest of what you've done (IMHO)...

What brings you to this forum?
Raul_Perez replied to lonewolf's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What brought me here was the curiosity to see other modeler's work in-process, the completed models and their tricks and tips. That’s where we get ideas and how we learn to improve our own skills. What keeps me here is all of the above coupled with the constructive criticism, suggestions and help from the modelers. I also like the way the work in-process and the completed models are separated into different categories. So, thanks Gregg and his crew for supporting such a GREAT forum!! -
E, I have a spare Revell 41 Willys windshild if some of the suggested solutions don't work well enough for you. It, and all of the other body parts, are leftover from a Willys dragster pickup that I'm building from bashing the Revell/Model King '43 Willys Gasser pickup and the Revell 41 Stone, Woods & Cook Willys coupe. If you need it, send me a message through the board with an address to send it to.

I like it!!! Not every build has to be detailed to the MAX for it to look good. Clean, crisp workmanship shows through every time, no matter how much or little detail is added!! Besides, you can always go back later and details a lot easier than you go back a clean up poor workmanship. Keep up the great work and the posts!! Your bikes are awesome!!

Very nice paint and BMF work!!

Who did you use and who are you using now? -
Very nice, clean build!! All the details look crisp and clean!!

Did I miss something, or am I getting old... ...I don't recall "sleepers" having HUGE meats, tubs and side exiting exhaust with almost no mufflers... Oh well, whatever you call it, it looks GREAT!!
-
Agreed!! Welcome and nice models!!
-
I really like the overall design concept and the top-down look!! That looks like a lot of engineering to get the top to work like it does...
-
I agree 1,000%!!! That's one great build of a really cool car!!!
