Maybe in "PhotoShop"... I think Virgil is in Florida and Curt is in California... Maybe we can get Virgil to attend the NNL West in March?!
-
See, Curt...I told you that he really cut it down. Now all we need to do is get him to cut some for us...

Neal, If you want to build a '55 Chevy pickup, (because you like the '55 grille and/or the Cameo bed without the moldings better than the '57) you should also get a '57 step-side or Cameo kit. The window openings on the doors of the AMT '55 Chevy pickups (step-side and Cameo) are shaped incorrectly. This is a problem that was fixed after the '55 when they tooled the '57. The window openings on the '55 kits slope upwards, towards the windshield, when they should be more horizontal with the top of the door. They are fixable, but for me it's just easier to work with the correct body to start with. If you look closely you can see the difference in the pictures of the '55s and the '57s on the box art.

Nice job, Curt!! Can't wait to see it at the NNL West!!

That sounds like fun, but it usually takes me at least 24 hours just to go through the garage and figure out what I want to build next...

Introducing Myself,new To This Forum.
Raul_Perez replied to Mike Kucaba's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'd say "post questions, work in progress and finished models as often as you can". I've found this to be a very constructive and supportive group of builders. -
Thanks, John!! In case some of you are wondering, yes, I do build old cars, too...

Hello Again....
Raul_Perez replied to Jeff Sauber's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Now that's funny!! But seriously, it's good to see that you're back and I can't wait to see your next build, Jeff!! -
Looking good so far!! Too bad that it's only a curbside. One if the things that I enjoy most is building a variety of engine types, and the Rx7 engine certainly is different...
-
That is really coming along nicely, Ismael!! Keep up the good work and the posts!! That's one thing I'm really bad about doing. I usually finish a model before I remember to take pictures!!

That is one of my favorite old Tamiya models!! Keep up the good work and the posts!!

The ZR-1 is such a cool engine!! Keep up the good work!!

Have you tried their new clear, yet? Is it any different or better than their other clear lacquer?

Well this is one case where I was glad to see that it was the work of some mindless, unimaginative little troll and not Jeff leaving the board. I can't state strongly enough how much I hate hackers and what I think should be done to them when they're caught. -
Cool!! I can't wait to see it at the NNL West.

I can't wait to see the Cheetah!!

The Paint looks really good, Steve. Did the base color make much difference in the finished color with the new Testors lacquer? I've found that the earlier lacquer colors cover so well that the base made litle difference.

The one that stands out for me is the white 53 Studebaker that was featured in Scale Auto several years ago. I'm not sure, but I think that the builder was Doug Whyte.

I really like the rivets on the bottom!! Nice touch!!
-
Now that's a lot of really nice work, Jerry!!

Thanks for the compliment, Chris. Yes, I think that I might get the "Superfly" Mustang II.

Thanks for the update, Lyle!! -
Nice tribute to "the boys"!! I like the mild green "skin tone"...very nicely done. They would be proud.

Randy, Yes, I like building old cars and trucks with updated goodies!! I originally left the Cameo insert orange and it looked like something was missing, so I painted it white...that didn't work with the orange. It was too bright. I then switched to the yellow because it somewhat matched the color of the flames. I'm thinking of using that area to put the name of the truck ("The Flaming Pumpkin") with trailing flames. That should break up some of the yellow. Jerry said that he'd print the decals for me if I do the artwork. I just haven't gotten around to it, yet. I wish that I had used the '55 Cameo bed that doesn't have the side moldings and insert... The paint is the earlier Testors lacquer with the clear coat applied afterwards. The color is "Go Mango". After I applied the decals and the clear the model sat for about a week. I then wet sanded it with 2,000 and polished it with Meguiar's 3 part Deep Crystal system, using only the paint cleaner (which is like a really mild rubbing compound). I haven't waxed it yet because I may change the yellow area, as I said earlier. Thanks for the comments and the input, Randy!! That reminds me to get those decals made before the NNL West!!

If I were to build this one again I'd probably drop in one of those new resin 572s in place of the 396. I'd probably also paint it different colors. The paint is Testors 2 part lacquer (base color coat and clear). The decals are from the Revell '67 Chevelle ProStreet kit. The body for this build is a combination of the AMT '57 Chevy cab and Cameo bed with an AMT '55 Chevy grille. The hood is a resin part from PSF Hobbies. I glued the resin hood to the fenders before I cut the front end to tilt. The tubs, tires, wheels, chassis and the entire drivetrain are from the Revell '67 Chevelle ProStreet kit. The wing is made from aluminum tubing, aluminum plate and sheet plastic. The parachute pack is handmade from Balsawood and satin material. Nothing special under the hood besides basic wiring and plumbing. Pieces of aluminum tubing from the firewall down to the chassis help keep the tilt hood fitting well everytime it's opened and closed. You can also see the upper radiator braces coming off of the support bars. Here's a shot of the Revell '67 Chevelle ProStreet chassis. Only minimal modification was needed to get it to fit. Take care,
