That's too funny, Dwayne!! I'm also building a mild custom '58 Impala and I'm struggling with ideas for the interior, mostly the seats. I don't want a bench seat in the front, I don't like the "custom" front seats that came in the kit and none of the bucket seats that I have look good with the existing rear seat. Maybe I'm a "purist" as well because I was thinking of using the interior bits from a Camero kit...but it looks like the Mustang interior fit pretty well. Thanks for the compliments and the ideas!!

John, That is just too cool!!! I really like the way the whole thing comes together, mixing old and new components. The hand grenade is an excellent addition to the WWII theme!! Nothing says suicide shift like a live hand grenade with an accessible pin!!

49 Svt Merc Cobra Hood - Need A Little Help
Raul_Perez replied to Raul_Perez's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks, Robert!! It's almost ready for a quick prime coat to see where it still needs a bit of sanding before I blast it with some purple paint to see how much further I want to go... -
49 Svt Merc Cobra Hood - Need A Little Help
Raul_Perez replied to Raul_Perez's topic in WIP: Model Cars
That's too funny, Jonathan!! No, I'm not going to start drilling into the paint on a finished model. I may be crazy but I'm not insane!! If the pan was not so pointed I could drill and mount them to the surface, but with the angle of the pan they would look crooked...pointing out towards the sides. -
49 Svt Merc Cobra Hood - Need A Little Help
Raul_Perez replied to Raul_Perez's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks again, Erik!! I did try to mix in elements of the front bumper/grill and even the rear bumper from the '97 SVT Mustang, but the overall shapes and proportions of the two different bodies just didn't match well enough to get the suttle look that I wanted. I wish that I had put a small set of recessed foglamps in the lower valance panel to break up it's size. To me, that's the interesting and fun part of redesigning these things. If the first one doesn't come out just the way you like, it build another one!! -
49 Svt Merc Cobra Hood - Need A Little Help
Raul_Perez replied to Raul_Perez's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks for your prompt reply and your input, Eric!! Check "Under Glass". I posted the "finished" pictures yesterday. I built it with Mustang SVT Cobra interior, engine, wheels, mirrors...but like I said, it still seems to be missing something on the body that says "SVT" or "Cobra". So, maybe one more short trip on the bench for this one before I'm satisfied... -
So, I thought that I finished my 49 SVT Merc Cobra, but it just doesn't say "SVT" or "Cobra" enough to me. What do you guys think of the hood inserts from the SVT Mustang? Suggestions welcome!! Thanks, guys!!

Jay, That really looks GREAT!! That was one of my favorite cars from the late 80's!! You really did the model justice!! Keep up the great work and the posts!!

Can You Identify This Car?
Raul_Perez replied to 7000in5th's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Now that's what I'm talkin' about...the return of the ZR-1!!! I can already see where the parts for my next tri-five truck are coming from... Hey Revell, can I get an early test shot, (or two), of that one?! -
Molding Quality In Some Kits?
Raul_Perez replied to Mike Kucaba's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Mike, My 49 Merc had only a few minor sink marks in the frame, none of which were too difficult to fix without loosing any detail. Maybe you got a bad one, or maybe I got a good one...either way, this is a great kit and I'm really pleased to see Revell release kits from new tools rather than just rehash to same old stuff over and over again. -
Or...Mrs. Raitz: "Curtis, where are all of those brand new paint brushes that I just bought yesterday?" Too funny!!!
-
Thanks, Jonathan!! I agree that a 2 tone paint job might make it look too "classy" and stripes just don't seem to say "Mercury" to me. The only other thing that I might have done differently would have been to add a pair of small foglights to the front roll pan. It looks just a little too tall for me. Oh well, off to the next build...

Thanks for the compliments, Neal!! There's really not much to it. I either use the original parts as templates for the new ones, or in this case, graft the new parts onto the stock ones. For this build, the Mustang dash was grafted right onto the Merc dash. Doing that maintains the fit around the windshield. The door panels were then cut down and grafted onto the Merc door panels to fit the dash, again to maintain the fit of the original parts. The only real work in the interior was removing the Merc's rear seat and replacing it with the one from the Mustang. I made a filler panel that held the original rear window package shelf in place to maintain the fit with the rear window while I removed the old seat and put in the new one. Since the filler panel was in the closed trunk, glued between the floor pan and the bottom-side of the package tray, it was never removed after the new seat was fitted in place. A little super glue and bada-bing, bada-boom, it was done... So, go ahead, give it a try. Afterall, my good friend Curt Raitz once told me that "model building is nothing more than a series of fixing your mistakes as you go". If it doesn't come out the way that you wanted it the first time, tweak it a bit until you're happy with it. Good luck and keep on trying,

This is my Revell '49 Merc done in a Mustang Cobra SVT theme. The interior, engine, wheels and mirrors came from the AMT 1997 SVT Mustang Cobra kit. Looking at the finished photos, I still feel that this one could have been painted 2 tone, probably a dark-gray metallic or black top section to compliment the Plum Crazy bottom... Since I really couldn't get good pictures of the interior now that the model is complete, here are a couple of interior shots that were taken earlier. There were very few body mods done to this model. In the front I added the roll pan from the AMT 49 Merc. You can also see the Mustang mirrors and wheels. Again, very minor body mods in the rear. The rear pan was slightly reshaped to align better with the body lines coming down the side. The roll pan was also rounded a bit on the bottom and the exhaust openings were enlarged slightly for the slightly larger exhaust tips that I wanted to use. Here you can see the Cobra SVT engine and all of the necessary "bits" shoehorned into the engine bay. The battery had to be moved next to the firewall to make room for the large heads on the 32 valve 4.6L engine. Everything underneath is built right from the kit except for the headers from the Mustang, a handmade idler arm, (that should have been included in the kit), and the slightly larger exhaust tips. I hope you enjoy looking at this one as much as I did building it.

Since I'm fairly new to this board, I'm curious which is the preferred method in a post...several pics from different angles and distance or a few pics with a link to the rest of them.
