Raptor Hauler - A Big Truck for a Big Man
Raul_Perez replied to Raul_Perez's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Is that the Galaxie trailer? I saw the mockup taped together...you said that you were waiting for the instructions... Yeah, I'm not really inclined to paint the roof with the tan color at this time. I think that makes it look too much like a vinyl top from the 60s; this is meant to be a more modern build. Like every other custom build; some will love it; some will appreciate the time that went into it and other will not like it at all. Later, -
You just gotta love the old fat fendered cars!! It looks like the body fits the fenders pretty well!! Resin can be such a pain when it's molded either to thick or extremely thin!! Thanks for sharing,

WOW!!! That is too cool!! I'll have to admire this one in photograph only because decals HATE me!! Thanks for sharing!! Later,

Raptor Hauler - A Big Truck for a Big Man
Raul_Perez replied to Raul_Perez's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Yeah...you might be right, Bernard. The matching tan roof sounds good in theory...but I'm not sure if I like it when I see it done. It might be too much... We'll see what happens next weekend when I start masking off the stripes! Later, -
Raptor Hauler - A Big Truck for a Big Man
Raul_Perez replied to Raul_Perez's topic in WIP: Model Cars
THANKS!! You're too funny!! With a little help from a friend, here's a "colorized" version of what the hauler will probably look like (if the roof stays green). The cream color of the roof fin gets a bit washed out against the white background, but you get the general idea... I'm also going to colorize the roof in the tan color at the drip rail to see how I like it before I actually go after it with masking tape and paper! You just gotta love what can be done with computers these days! Later, -
Raptor Hauler - A Big Truck for a Big Man
Raul_Perez replied to Raul_Perez's topic in WIP: Model Cars
That's too funny!! Bernard and I were just talking about how different it looks in green than it did in primer. At this point there's still a LOT of GREEN going on! I'm actually waiting for the paint to cure a bit more before I start masking it off for the stripes. The truck and trailer will have cream, orange and black stripes like the Raptor. My only concern with painting the roof of the truck in the tan color, (other than the fact that its textured paint), is how I would resolve the tops of the doors. The Raptor was easy because it has no side windows and the top is removable. Maybe I should rename the Raptor as the "Blob-O-Green", or the "Green Bloblin"! There's probably a few people on the forum that think it would be a more appropriate name! -

Art Deco '49 Merc / chopped and.......??
Raul_Perez replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Bernard, You really should be doing model kit reviews for the magazines!! Dave, This is too cool!! I really like the white interior to contrast the exterior and highlight the shape of the side windows!! The various red accents really work well with the black, white and chrome!! Bernard, The other reason that Dave took out the "B" pillars is to give the driver a little extra room to get in through the window opening. There are no door lines!! You just gotta love art deco!! Raptor Hauler - A Big Truck for a Big Man
Raul_Perez replied to Raul_Perez's topic in WIP: Model Cars
That's too easy...the Raptor was built as a tribute to Ed Roth; Ed was often supported by Revell; there you go! Here are a few mockup pics with almost everything painted with the base green color. I still need to narrow the tires and set the ride height on the trailer before I get the fenders painted. Later, -
Welcome, Dan! If you think that your post was long then you're in for a real "treat" when you read comments from some of the other guys on this forum. I occasionally have to bring a lunch to get through some of them! Now get going on that Camaro and get some pics posted! Later,

Nice job building a stocker, Ed! The BMF and flocking work looks GREAT!! Did the '63 Nova SS really come with a six banger? Later,

This one is a pure bred Pound Puppy! He looks like some kind of Sheppard and Hound mix. He's the perfect play friend for for our Rottweiler puppy. Our 8 year old Pug, Otis, just doesn't want to be bothered much with either of them. Later,

Well, this week's acquisition is not a model, but he's new to the family and he loves hanging out in my model room with me. He's only about 30 pounds right now, but the vet figures that he'll end up somewhere around 60 pounds when he's done growing. Later,

WHY DO YOU BUILD MODEL CARS?
Raul_Perez replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Now that's really a tough question...I've been building for so long that I suspect that there's a pretty long list of reasons ranging from "because I can" to "because I like to try different ideas that seem to randomly come to me", "because I hate spending my evenings watching too much TV"... But through it all I think that I do it because I like to share what I've done with my friends. Later, -

Art Deco '49 Merc / chopped and.......??
Raul_Perez replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in WIP: Model Cars
So I assume that because you took the time to make molds that you'll be making more pieces? That's actually one of my biggest problems with model building...I rarely will build anything a second time. Maybe that's why I haven't ever bothered with casting anything. Those parts look GREAT!! I'm also going to have to go back into the archives and reread your post on plating at home. With as much as I already know about passivating and plating parts, I'm curious to see how you do it at home. Keep up the GREAT work and the posts!! Later, -
Raptor Hauler - A Big Truck for a Big Man
Raul_Perez replied to Raul_Perez's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Yeah...that's too funny!! Equally twisted minds think alike!! Maybe we'll start a fad!! We better buy stock in the foam and toothpick companies first thing Monday morning!! Maybe we'll make enough to pay for our hobby!! Probably not!! Well, it's back to painting for me!! I've got an engine and a chassis the get painted and built while I wait for the paint on the hauler and the trailer to cure well enough to start masking and painting the cream color. Later, -
Raptor Hauler - A Big Truck for a Big Man
Raul_Perez replied to Raul_Perez's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Here's a picture for TreeHugger Dave: Yes, I use a lot of toothpicks for staging parts to be painted. If I'm going to leave the parts attached to the foam when I paint them then I'll cover the foam with a piece of automotive grade masking paper (like the one in the rear). I've got a bit of sanding and priming to do to the narrowed seat and the modified frame before I step out to paint this last group of parts for the hauler. Later, -
Very sweet little salt flat car!! I really like the details that you added to make this one period perfect!! Thanks for sharing,
-
Very nice, very clean representation of a stock Charger!! The paint, the BMF and all of the details are right on the money!! Another masterpiece from the bench of Marcos Cruz!! Thanks for sharing,
-
It looks like you're getting close to finishing this one!! Does that color store light during the day and then glow bright at night? Just kidding...I really like the bright yellows more than I do the creamy ones. Later,

The weathering you've done so far looks awesome!! I also like the way you used the front fenders to create the radiator shell! Thanks for sharing,

Very nice build!! That's one really nice Charger!! Thanks for sharing,

WOW!! That's BRIGHT!! Next time give us a warning!! I'm glad to see that you're back building a bit! Later,
