You Tube! I really appreciate the tips and tricks I can learn there on many subject matters. But they let any idiot with a cell phone or video camera post up “how to” videos. Some of these people run the gamut from inept to downright stupid to even dangerous. I am smart enough (I hope) to weed out the bad information, but some people might consider these videos excellent advice.?

It’s embossing powder for me too. This is two applications using thinned white glue. I dump it on, tamp it in place, then dump it off and tap the part to get the excess un-adhered stuff off. Edit: I also spray a coat of flat clear on it after each application to seal it and keep it from shedding.

How do I save this, or how do I strip and restart?

I haven’t used it on anything with script myself. It works best if airbrushed. I don’t recall if I thinned it but I read on here somewhere that IPA will work. I bought a quart can of it rather than the spray can. It does need a primer underneath it. -

I haven’t tried the silver paint as a sealer, but I have used this. It works great for sealing any bleed through. -

1937 Ford Pickup
NOBLNG replied to ModelcarJR's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
You’re welcome John! Yours is looking mighty fine. Missing or molded in tailgate chains are a pet peeve of mine. I think real chains add a lot to the realism of these vintage trucks. -
Here is a link to discussion of the hose connections on the head: https://forums.aaca.org/topic/201635-ford-flathead-v8-question/ And a pic of the water pump outlet. It looks like there are variations, so I’m not sure if this is the proper vintage.

Looking good John!? My kit only came with the stock axle so no issues. It looks like the inner rim on yours is not quite up against the “backing plate” so it may be possible to trim the mounting pin off a bit to get the wheels to sit further in? You would likely have to glue the wheels on solid, which I always do anyways. I went with green/black also: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/166562-1937-ford-pickup/ -

The photo etch saws are excellent. I have no experience with their razor saw, but pretty much anything Tamiya makes is good quality. Edit: The photo etch saws (likely any brand) bend easily, so it’s best to cut on the backstroke if possible. And always use a very light touch…let the saw do the work.
