  1. I'm almost sure that the Fujimi kit is a straight reissue of the Heller. Testors also issued the Heller kit in their box back in the 80s. As far as I know this is the only 512S kit.
  2. No warpage at all on mine fortunately.
  3. This is the VERY fiddly Ferrrari 512S. This is a Heller kit in a union box... This was an exercise in patience but very fun and rewarding build. I built this back in the late 80s and always wanted to do another one. It only took almost 30 years but I finally did '' The pipes just didn't fit and I really struggled to get them to look half way descent. In the end this was a challenge but I'm happy to see it on the shelf.
  4. So for you Corvette enthusiasts please don't freak out...this was built in 1980 out of what was a very rough 65 Corvette. Who knew in 1980 what would happen to the value of the 60's ere Corvettes. This was my uncles car,and it had so much torque....like space shuttle kind of torque. I drove this car for 10 days back in 1985 due to the generosity of my uncle. I was a 20 year old kid... At a dollar per gallon, I ran 125 bucks of gas through this car in 10 days, all after work. I had a XJ12 kind of taunting me on the strip in Ithaca NY. We stopped side by side at a stop sign, and I took off the line so fast that the Jag never had a chance. I pulled into a spot about 5 miles down the road to get some food, and the guy pulled in behind me and said he'd never seen a street car take off that fast. He was shocked to learn it was a very built 350. He figured it to have a 396 or 427 in it. Folks...this cart was just stinkin' fast. Stop light to Stop light fast. 1/4 mile fast. I've owned and driven many fast carts. Nothing even comes remotely close to the raw torque this car had. It was the most fun I ever had in a car, and it lasted 10 days.
  5. Dominik this is the Revell kit released again just this year. http://www.revell.com/model-kits/cars/85-4330.html#.Vc3W1_lVhBc
  6. Mike. I actually hand painted the centers. I first stripped the chrome in Castrol Super clean, and painted them Rustoleum chrome over gray primer. This took it down to a brushed aluminum look. Then I used a teeny brush and painted the outside edge Testors Acryl Semi Gloss black. Then I used a soft wiser brush once I has cut it in.
  7. You never see these built anymore. Very nice. Great paint.
  8. Nice basic kit. This is the Revell most recent release. I fumbled around a bit with the rear suspension. This is one area that I'd suggest some more test fitting than I did. I had to oval out the wheel backs so that the rear end sat lower. Totally me, not the kit. If I build this again I'll make sure the suspension is all the way down into its slot. I'd love to own one of these, exactly from this era.
  9. These weren't fast cars, but they were cool. This is the old Molded in Yellow MPC kit. I think since I was a kid I've built probably 20 MPC 70's Corvette Models.
  10. I'd buy those decals if they were on the site. Honestly there are better looking than the Modelhaus replacements IMHO.
  11. Genius on the tail lights. Could I convince you to share the file ? I'd love to do the same thing. They look great as does the rest of the model.
  12. Beautiful model and photographs as usual. I remember these kits but i never bought one. You did this one right.
  13. I'd love to see Mobius do a 67 Galaxie. Coupe, then convertible, then wagon ? I know, they'd never do a Wagon. Or...53 Buick Skylark... That would be right in line with the Hudson's which I have to believe were very successful.
  14. Never heard of Gravity colors but they sure have some popular colors and the price looks really good. Does anyone know how large those bottles are ? Are they 1 oz ?
  15. I agree with the sniff test. If it smells like paint let it dry some more. Duplicolor clear dries pretty fast. A couple days and you should be good.
  16. Testors Plum Crazy and all of their other Metallic paints have too big of a flake for my liking. Scale finishes or Model Car world have the best ones IMHO. If you want to use a spray can MCW can do those.
  17. Tagging onto what Tom said. I was working in Bayshore NY once week for several weeks a few years back, and there was a hobby shop there. I went in and they had RC stuff piled in front of all of the model cars...I asked the owner if I could see the model cars and he said, barely lifting his head to look at me, "tell me what you are looking for and I'll tell you if I have it". I said "I'll know it when I see it"... then he did a big sigh... I said "tell you what, I'll go shop at Willis Hobbies", thanks for your time... and I left. The place was empty of any customers. I get why. Curious if he is still there. Wouldn't shock me if he wasn't.
  18. I miss my lhs. I miss needing paint or supplies and being able to just run out and get it. But to others point, I was willing to pay a few more bucks for a kit to get it now and support the shop. However, often times I could get the kit or kits cheaper on line including shipping. I still have a handful of local hobby shops within an hour of me so if I really need something usually save up list and go once every couple of months. Again, this is mostly for supplies. I tend to buy my kits online or at shows just because it's a lot cheaper. What I really miss is knowing the shop owner. My childhood hobby shop is still open and the owner is probably the most interesting and passionate hobbylist I've ever known (Sayre hobby shop sayre pa). Locally here where I live now, we had a shop and the owner was just a great guy and I looked forward to talking to him. Internet is here and its wgere I buy my most of my model kits now....on!y I can't talk to the internet. I miss the human side of the hobby shop experience. JJ
