  1. On the Testors Boxart it looks like it sits nose high. Has anyone ever built this kit and if do how does it build up? Does the kit build up like that or was it possibly just the boxart. Interested in any info on this one. I am completely on an exotic car kick right now. Its all I used to build in my 20s. Maybe this is my modeling mid life crisis haha JJ
  2. I use a Badger 175 Crescendo and I love it. When mine broke I packed it up and sent it to Badger. They fixed it and sent it back...no charge... The thing I like about the 175 is that its dual action, but can also be set up to act like a single action. Just pull the pin back slightly and it acts line a single action. I actually learned to use it that way, on the suggestion of someone here on the board. I really do lie the 175. My compressor is a Campbell-Hausfield 2 gallon that I paid about 75 bucks for at Wal-Mart. You can get similar ones at Sears (craftsman). However if I had a tank like you do, and that tank was able to hole a steady adjustable pressure, I'd prefer that. The compressors make noise, at least mine does. I'd much prefer a silent tank.
  3. 1967 Ford Galaxie Triumph TR6 For Revell to correct the nose on the 1969 Mustang Mach 1 kit
  4. HAHAHA that made me choke on my coffee. Yes I;d have to agree. Car models I'd say any modern Revell tool builds up very nice. However the older Revell 69 Camaro's and the Revell - Monogram 70 Mustang seem do come together nicely.
  5. I think this has a lot to do with it too. When the 68 Mustang kit (Revell) came out it was $23.95. I whined and complained on the boards... But Yeah I still bought it.
  6. Looks like something that would roll down the street in my hometown in the 70s. Full of kids with no seat belts on HAHA That is seriously a very nice convincing conversion. Well done !
  7. Finished this one. Painted Duplicolor white with Testors Wet Look clear polished out and waxed. Photo etch parts and open doors.
  8. Nice and the engine is no Datsun LOL Imaging how fast that would be in 1:1
  9. I also said that you can get a better paint job than any mass produced die cast kit. Not "any" die cast kit. I hardly think an Auto Art 300 dollar die cast kit qualifies as mass produced. You can't exactly pick those up at your local Wal-Mart.
  10. I deleted it Jim, but thanks. I don't think I have to post kits to prove anything. It felt arrogant to do that. Or maybe I shouldn't worry about being arrogant as our administrator obviously has no problem with it.
  11. I beg to differ Harry. I think I can get a paint job that rivals that.
  12. ALong the lined of what Art said, with practice you can get better results with a painted model than any of the mass produces die casts. Its just a matter of the painting the technique and the polishing. I use typically a lacquer or acrylic enamel base, and a lacquer hobby clear. Then its the polishing that really brings out the shine on my builds.
  13. I'd just like to be able to build the Rockford files Trans AM even if it was a resin transkit to go over the AMT 77 Trans Am Blackbird or one few the Revellogram 24th scale Trans Am kits.
  14. You have a lot of catching up to do LOL This is, by far, the best car show out there. NO drama, no fake timelines or personal conflicts, just a real car guy talking about cars. My son't favorite saying now is "I think it's time to take it for a ride". I read Jay's book and he;s been a car guy form the get go. He grew up here right near in Andover, MA. I'd love to meet him. I'm not a start struck kind of guy, but Jay does a great show, isn't full of himself AT ALL and seems to be a guy who can relate to anyone who loves cars. I'd love to see him do a TV car show, but then it wouldn't be as good..
  15. I've built many models for my friends and family for free. I finish maybe 4-5 models per year and at least one I give away. I have also built a few for commission for people who ask, and who I do not not know. I'd never charge a good friend or family member. I might ask them to buy the kit, assuming I don't already have it.
  16. Years ago I switched to the 2 part urethane clear. Only that stuff is just nasty smelly and...well nasty. I have tried a couple of cans of Tamiya clear and never was able to master it. I eventually switched to Testors Wet look and I much prefer it to any other clear. I do decant and spray it from the airbrush. The only time I don't use it is when I run out. I have a ton of the 2 part left, so I'll shoot that in a pinch because it does give outstanding results. The other clear that I used to use is Plastikote T5. It lays on really smooth and bright right out of the can. I used this all the time before I started airbrushing. JJ
  17. I agree. However I do like Chasing Classic cars and Wheeler Dealers a lot. No drama, juat cars and guys talking about them. But the best is Jay Leno's garage on the internet.
  18. Michael s had a few on clearance for $11.99 last week too.
  19. I have to agree that I really don't care how fast it will go, from t top speed perspective. I want to feel how fast it will go right now. I want to jump off the line to 60 or 70 or 80, and I want it to be fun driving on twisty roads, or on the entrance ramp. I'd buy a Jag F type because for me, I think its just about the coolest thing out there right how, and I'm just sure I'd have lots of fun driving country roads and doing the zero to 75 thing...or 40 to 80. JJ
  20. I'd have to disagree Rex. I'd be mighty excited to drive a 355 I'd probably drool all over the leather seats the whole way !!!!
