2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe
Jeff Johnston replied to jeffs396's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Had I the means, that'd be the car in my garage. They are just as beautiful in person. -
That is Awesome. I'm actually building the exact same kit in almost the same color. I painted mine Grabber Orange which is very similar to that. That;s just a very nicely built model ! Edit: So I went and checked out the in progress pics. Man you really nailed it. You can't appreciate all the work you put into this with just the computed pics. This is easily the most interesting build I've read in a long time. Just outstanding...

Jay Leno, School Stunt Pt. 2
Jeff Johnston replied to Joe Handley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I completely agree. I'd love to meet him someday. He grew up right near where I live adn he was a car guy then too. -
That is awesome. She'll love it ! My son wanted (wants) a Mustang but he could not find a suitable/affordable 5.0 car that wasn't a mess. Here in the northeast they rust.... Now he is in college, so no Mustang for him. He bought a nice Saab but he still pines for the Mustang. I let him drive mine quite a bit though. 9 mustangs eh ? I used to have 2 but only one now Dang I am jealous LOL

That is just plain Awesome !!!!!

Looks good, and you did a great job lowering the suspension. Those 2006 kits sit really high without modification, and you lowered it nicely. The window trim can be tricky. Sometimes I will use Tamiya tape to outline the trim then paint it. It makes it a little easier.

Tamiya....lets get it right.

Good 1973 mustang kit
Jeff Johnston replied to Jaguar man 21's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yes that big scoop is separate. It's your typical MPC early 70s kit, but its a 73 inside even though the box art shows the earlier grille and turn signals. It also has a nice 25th scale set of Mustang wheel covers. Same wheel covers that's in the Revell 70 Mach 1, only an 25th scale. -
Good 1973 mustang kit
Jeff Johnston replied to Jaguar man 21's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
This kit shows the 71-72 style grille and turn signals, but it actually has the correct 73 grille and signals. This is the one I'd pick. There are a few on ebay right now for not a lot of money. -
Steve McQueen's Ferrari to be Auctioned
Jeff Johnston replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm thinking somewhere between 10 and 15 mill -
That is just beautiful ! The details in the interior are so nice and the paint is as clean as it gets.

One of the most beautiful body styles ever to grace the track. Very nice ! I have an old Union kit that I have been building in my head. That kit has some issues but has a very nicely detailed full engine, etc.

Rusty Ferrari Barn Find

LOVE LOVE LOVE Dino's. Seeing that breaks my heart. How do you just forget about a Dino and let it rot away like that ? I just cannot fathom having a Dino in my garage and not drive it, or at least sell it to someone who will. I'm a fan of the Fiat Dino too. I sure wish we had a kit of the Fiat Dino, but it'll never happen. -

Oh it's coming LOL !!! I started having to wear Wal-Mart cheater glasses while building a few years ago. I used to brag how I was 40 and still had 20:15 vision. That lasted about 4 years !! NOW I am 49 and I have to have my wife read me the menu if the restaurant is too dark LOL. Funny though... I have a couple friends who wear glasses and are, for most of their life, near sighted. Its weird to see them take OFF their glasses to look at something up close. I'm the opposite. I have to wear glasses to read now. Definitely have to wear them to build. We're getting old ! If only my brain felt as old as my body HAHA. Sometimes my body has to remind me that I'm not 30 anymore.... -
1). Take most of the builders on this board out of the equation. While we think the hobby is all about us (myself included ), its likely not. I would venture a guess that the majority of people who actually build models are casual builders. Guys that who don't have 1000 or more un-built kits, and 4 different cutting tools, and 37 different paints, and 2 different airbrushes...etc. Its the guy who's in the hobby shop or at Michael's who builds casually, and something catches their eye. I have to believe that's at least 3/4 of the hobby. I do not claim to know that for a fact, so if someone does please verify or correct my assumption. These folks don't know who Norm Veber or Jimmy Flintstone is. They aren't going to research how to lower a frame. They are going to buy some spray paint, a tube of glue and some Testors bottle paints and glue the model together. These are the guys I am targeting with the chopped and channeled kit, and lets face it, we'd all but a couple too. Having said that, I still very much believe this is a viable and potentially long standing kit with many potential options. 2). I have to agree that I don't think the video game crowd isn't gong to convert. My son is 18, and loves cars. Loves Ferrari and Lamborghini and Bugatti. I've offered to buy him nice Tamiya kits and he's just not interested. His best friend is on his 5th WRX... He buys and sells and buys and sells. Big car nut. ZERO interest in building a model. Loves the one I built for him, had no interest in doing it himself. I think the time where we get these kids is when they turn 30, just had their first baby and they remember their dad or Uncle who used to build models. They don't have the freedom they once had and are looking for a hobby. I'm 49 and I'm usually one of the younger guys. Most of the guys I know who built did as a kid, then got out of it when they were a bit older, and got back into it when they had kids. That's me too.

I still think that an early 30s chopped and lowered kit would sell and they could do multiple releases, like they did with the 32 High boy. It offers multiple possibilities for body style, wheels and tires, engines, etc. They'd have the ability to sell a coupe, sedan, convertible, hood, no hood, flathead V8, straight 6 and the list goes on almost endlessly. Oh and I still want a 67 Galaxie HAHA.

New York model stores?
Jeff Johnston replied to Volvoman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Plus...all of his RC stuff is piled up in front of his model cars. You can't even get to the models. I went in there twice, thinking the first time the guy was having a bad day. Same the second time. I walked in to not even a nod... I never went back. -
Well I'm not exactly an inexperienced model builder and I can tell you that I've botched this twice... The fact that they are not 32s is not important. What I mean to suggest is that it'd be nice to have a kit of this era that's already chopped and channeled. The chopped 49 was very successful, and I'm sure Revell is smart enough to find the right balance of chopping and channeling for most of us. As far as a Tucker. My opinion, for what little its worth, is that its an ugly car that 90% of people buying models would not buy. I get why some folks would want to build it, and also why most wouldn't.

Chopped and Channeled 32 hot Rod. Think of all the variations of body styles you could release. Hood, no hood, copue, sedan, convertible.... Plus the chassis an body would be already chopped and channeled. Kind of like they did with the 49 Merc. I tried and failed to shop an AMT 49... Revell solved that issue. I also failed at chopping and channeling an AMT switchers kit. I bet I'm not alone either... Build it dirty. Build it shiny.... I can see at least 5 releases of this in different variations.
