  1. Today I finished this Caddy rescue. It needed a new hood and the rear bumper was also missing, so I scratch built them both. Then I put new wheels and tires under it and lowered the suspension too. The went windows didn't have any frames, but now they do. A pair of antennas and some detailing for the interior was done. The old brushed red paint was on the body when I got this Caddy, but I wanted to make it to have even more worn look with some primer areas. Also I added the chrome everywhere.
  2. They both look great, keep busy to get the replica finished.
  3. Hello, I got this poor Caddy, that is without the hood, rear and front bumpers, front wheels and suspension. It's painted with a brush in bright red, and it looks quite good, so I will keep that paint. First thing I did was to scratch build the hood, and it's nearly finished. Just need to sand some putty. Then I made the rear bumper with the light housings. I found a front bumper from my scrap box. I went through my wheel box and found those nice looking chrome wheels. To be continued.
  4. Thanks, Today I painted the body, but it's too orange. My lighter yellow can has lost the pressure, so I need a new can that will be a bit lighter yellow than this. But otherwise the body looks good enough for this project.
  5. This is again another replica of a street/strip car from Finland driven decades ago by Mr. Parnila. I got some fine photos of the original owner of the car, so I'll try to copy the main details as they were. I'll put one of those pics here. I don't have any pics of the engine bay though, so there is room for imagination. Also I didn't want to buy a new Duster kit, as I had a very rough Dodge Dart Sport body in my stash. I need to convert it to look like Duster, as the wheel openings are different. I don't even have the front grille, bumper, hood, etc. Scratch building rules!
  6. Here's a model of a legendary strip car from Finland driven by Bo Warelius. It was a genuine SS model, and what I've heard, now it's fully restored to original factory condition. But in the '80ies it was driven on the strip hard and fast. I remember seeing it in action a few times, so it's one more tribute model in my cabin to salute those golden years. I made those decals, and this time they settled quite nicely on the body.
  7. Thanks everybody. This was a fun build, as I could use lots of scrap parts and scratch build some more. Only the decals tried to give me a nasty headache, as they wanted to warp heavily after I dipped them in the water and took off the backpaper. Finally I got the to stick well.
  8. Big, fat and fast. A Rhino is like that. That's what this Caddy can be too. Big block engine with double intercooled turbos delivers the mighty power and the rear wheels are kicking hard. When it's time to slow down the speed, the parachute is there for it. Pontiac GTO '64 chassis, lots of scratch made parts. Tamiya Candy Green, silver base paint, several clear coats. I think this Caddy could be street legal, so I didn't put it in the race section.
  9. And then some decals. The Hippo pic and the name are still paper versions. I scratch built a parachute and put the bumpers in. I painted some small stuff and added a small rear view mirror (as this is a street legal vehicle) so it will have the license plates too.
  10. I'd say definitely the first wheel choice. The others fit better under an European or Jap car.
  11. Now the final time to put the body on the chassis. The red windows are glued to stay, still need to put the bumpers and some decals on it.
  12. So I sprayed Tamiya clear coat heavily on my Caddy and got some shine to it. Then I used chrome tape to add the trim around the windows etc.
  13. I want red windows to this Caddy. I have stored for years various colour plastic sheets but they are not as clear "see thru coloured" as I had wished. Well I'm gonna use this red sheet anyway. Maybe the driver is nervous and makes the windows go steamy...
  14. Okay thanks again everyone for the interesting info etc. Today my ElDoDo got some paint. First white primer, then silver spray and then a few coats of Tamiya Candy Green. Now I wonder, how many days it takes until I can spray Tamiya Clear on it? My models don't usually shine with clear coat, just the paint work and some Model wax if I feel it needs it.
  15. Oh I didn't realise that. Is it the headlights that tells the year? I don't know how to edit the year in the topic. Thank you Can-Con for the info. That Caddy is awesome, Claude. Thanks everybody for your comments. I'm a quite slow model builder now because my new job takes more of my time than my old job. This is the self made roll cage I managed to put inside the Caddy's cabin.
  16. I have made the roll cage and painted it bright red. The exhaust tips got those round ports to the front fenders. I should paint the body next. The windows are a mess after taking them apart from the body, so firmly they were glued to stay. Last night I was thinking what to call this Caddy. I usually give my model cars a name, like Le Freak, Cutmelow, Malibu Bitch, Rusteel, Stressless, TowerBlower, Black Betty etc. I though... "Eldorado" drop off two letters... El Dodo... big bird that couldn't fly, hundreds of years ago hunted to the last one. That's it. This Caddy wouldn't fly but it could run.
  17. Here's another follower. I have a soft spot on these VWs, as I had '79 VW Derby 1300LS many years when I was still young. Briigth yellow with same yellow alloys, GTI flares, tuff suspension etc. Some day I will make a model of it, even if I have to scratch build it.
  18. The ignition wires and hood scoop glued. The exhaus pipes are still loose, they will be more level when they can be installed. Also I put some Molotow chrome to the steelies.
  19. Thanks everybody, Today I painted the engine. Not sure what colour the air cleaners will be.
  20. So I wasn't happy with the engine sitting too high and too front, so I made some changes placing the engine as far back and low as possible. I also turned the twin turbos facing each other and tilted them a bit downwards. Now the inlet from the intercooler can run over them. I was a bit hasty earlier and cut the hood open, but now everything fits under it without any scoop or hump. I will try to close the hood hole someday. Large exhaust pipes peek through the front fenders. More to come, stay tuned.
  21. Thanks everybody, some progress here but I'm not sure what kind of wheels would be cool on this. Wide painted steelies or something more shiny...? There's big drag slicks and narrow front runners under it. Somehow I see this like a low budget street racer built in a modest back yard carage. We'll see how it goes.
  22. Hi everybody, I got in my hands a previously built Caddy Eldorado, took it apart and soaked it into paint remover. I'm using the chassis of '64 Pontiac GTO. The engine comes from the parts box, twin turbos are self made.
  23. Maybe the first 55 I've seen in white paint, and it really looks good and sharp. Great detailing everywhere, a joy to look closely.
  24. Hello, this time I show you my latest model. There's a story to follow at the Workbench, if interested. It started as a police toy car, friction operated. A pile of available parts came from 635csi and 750i kits, and some scratch building was also needed. The wheels are Plymouth Cuda steelies. I'm still waiting for the 745i emblem to the trunk lid to arrive from RU, but the mail is veeeery slow/stalled for the reasons we all know. Thanks for watching, comments are ofcourse welcome.
  25. Ok now I call this premium class German vehicle ready to go Under The Glass. Maybe I could work even more with it, but the spring weather drags me outside of the house, and I think it's decent enough to put among the other models.
