love this build! so much time and dedication in the weathering.

Updates! Coming together wonderfully. Paint job cake out superb! I discovered the zero 2k cures so hard, a dremel and cotton bit was just about the only practical way to polish out sanding scratches. Rubbing by hand didn’t go anywhere...

Absolutely stunning! how many cylinders does this monster have!?

Tamiya 1/24 Mazda Savanna RX-7 - 1st Generation Rotary Rocket
Ahajmano replied to Italianhorses's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Totally agree. My skills have improved while my adherence to detail has come down. I realize now once I build the model, no one (including myself) seems to have much appreciation for the high level of detail in the least visible areas. These include the under-body and some interior details in a non-convertible model. I look back sometimes and say "why did I worry so much about that, i cant even see it". Meanwhile, my body errors and detailing are super apparent. I spend a lot more time on the finish and accents now. -
Gorgeous! Didn't Klaus Ludwig win the Group 5 championship?

Tamiya 1989 NISSAN Skyline GT-R R32 Bayside Blue

I was a mechanic for 7 years before I became an Engineer. If I were to put a wish-list together for everything I wanted in the car, Nissan absolutely built it! Especially, with the R34, but so many of the features were already available by the early 90's: -

That is beautiful detailing on the engine. Would love to read a write-up from you sometime on how you achieve this. -

This looks really fantastic! -
I think it looks absolutely wonderful! I have this kit and am looking forward to it as well.

Thank you all! Appreciate the support! I have a spray booth and will double up with a respirator as well. Thanks for the input!

Had some decal creases so I didn’t spend as much time on the finish as I would usually. I did polish the roof though, since it is flat and most visible. Also, the last model I will ever do with enamel paint and clear coat. Enjoying the Zero and Gravity products much more. Hope you enjoy!

Done. Will post in “under the glass” shortly

Thanks! yeah it turned out alright! I learned a lot, and switching over to zero and gravity products on my next models. Thanks for your support!

Thanks!!! Yeah those decals are a bear. They rip easily, and crease something awful with microsol. In the future, I will skip the sol altogether, except for the curves. I have two more of these kits with different liveries. I’m thinking of just calling this one “done” and moving onto the rest. I will post it in the “under the glass” once I get the remaining details put together

Latest update: Wheels clear coated and put on chassis. Body clear coated with the last of my clear enamel. All future models will be with Zero 2k. Just need to clean up the clear coat blemishes, install windows and add a few more details. Almost done.

Looks fantastic!

Primer was sanded down. 2000, 3000 and finished with 6000. Hit it with paint today. 3 coats on all the pieces requiring body color (which are quite a few!) this is my first kit requiring muiltiple separate peices painted with the body color. Took an hour and a half or spraying. Next I will sand down any inclusions I see, and move on to clear coat. Paint is Lotus Racing Green by Gravity.

Scribe-ing deeper panel lines

I totally got one on ebay! Excited to try it! -
Thanks! Ah well... live and learn

Here are the wrinkles. 8 hours after microsol and still there. Anyone know if or how these can be repaired?
-
Update: got my other kids in the mail so was able to use the decals. Decided to do the Mampe as originally planned. Making some progress on the decals. They are a PITA for sure! Getting some permanent wrinkles from the microsol that I’m having trouble solving. Also had three decals rip on me, so there are some seam lines. Could be worse I suppose.

Model Car Kit Collection
Ahajmano replied to Ahajmano's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
UPDATE! Soke of you commented on the organization of the kits, so I took some time to group like-kind kits. I also moved my one-off overflow kits to another location.
