  1. This model is the only first place I've ever gotten at a contest (in the contest theme, Surfing). Starting with the Fink woody, I removed the inner panel and replaced them with thin spruce, so that's real wood. I painted the frame using a technique from an old SAE article. The engine and transmission comes from an AMT Firebird--had a heck of a time shoving that straight six in there! The intake and the exhaust are made from aluminum tubing, and the window glass is clear styrene all around, and the surfboard was made from those ubiquitous wooden sticks. Let's go surfing!
  2. That's so cool...It looks ready to fly to the Moon and pick up a couple burgers at the Star Cafeteria.

    1956 Nomad

That color is beautiful! Love this build, really nice, and kinda Christmas-y too.
  4. This is a Revell Volkswagen GTI, assembled box-stock except for a set of custom wheels and drilled brake rotors (I drilled all the holes by hand!), lowered suspension, and engine wiring and plumbing. The theme? Black as midnight! If I had a GTI, this is the theme I would follow... Again, I don't remember if this has been posted here before, if so, my apologies for the spam.
  5. Lovin' the black primer and green combo, pretty darn cool!
  6. Thanks guys! Marcos, that's an old Duplicolor rattlecan color, I don't even know if it's a Chrysler color!
  7. Hey, I like that a lot! I know what you mean, I'm returning to the hobby in these days. It's hard to "break the ice" but once you start cutting and gluing together plastic, it's a slippery slope.
  8. My original idea was to make this Monaco look somewhat Pro Touring, but the original results actually made it look like a donk...Not my cup of tea, but I never got back to redoing that part of the model, until today... This is it before: * shudders * Here is it today: I gotta say, a definite improvement.
  9. The Phantom Vickie engine, a pretty cool unit! Its backstory is that this is an actual hot rod in progress and not as it is as the end...So it would eventually be a pretty, shiny hot rod!
  10. This is a mix of spare parts, a disassembled Phantom Vickie, and a stalled '34 pickup project. Wanting to reboot myself and get those modeling juices flowing, I threw caution out the window and started mixing parts and stuff, with the following results...It ain't pretty, but it sure is bad. Still to do? Some additional weathering with washes (noticed that with these pics!), and some small detailing here and there.
  11. I'm just very happy that I'm not the guy who's gonna have to clean up that! That's one bada**-looking truck!
  12. Thanks guys! About the wheels, I'm always looking to twist the usual build concepts...You know, throw something different at it. I thought that in a way the wheels sorta bring to mind old spoked wheels. It's cool to see the reactions it brings!
  13. This is the last model I finished before taking another long pause in my modeling. It's a Lindberg 1934 kit, painted with nail polish, red Testors for the engine, wheels and details. I got the wheels off eBay eons ago. Engine is the stock flathead with an aluminum carb cover made out of an aluminum button cover. If I already posted this here, my apologies!
  14. Wow, Marcos, that looks very cool. Love the color!
  15. Good grief. I've had a hard time trying to finish my '77 Mustang II. Things come unglued, I notice missing things, aluminum foil is mysteriously damaged...What's the deal? Last thing was that the windshield became unglued. Again. Some projects want to remain on the workbench forever...

    Street Rod

I'm almost 100% sure I saw this in a Scale Auto Annual...Awesome rod.
  17. It has a Ford 5.0 SVO V8 lifted from the Fink Speedwagon. Thanks, man! Dude, my current car is a 2004 Ford Expedition. Freakin' bulletproof ride.
  18. This might be the last update before moving to Under Glass. Gotta get some lil' details here and there, build and install the driveshaft, finish engine bay detailing, and build the exhaust. Then it's done! And yes, I noticed the rear glass on one of the side windows is drooping--I saw that after taking the pics, and it's fixed.
  19. Don't have much time to elaborate (gotta get ready to go to a birthday party), but I resucitated this project and it's coming along rather nice. Chassis is almost done, engine is in place, interior almost complete...It should be finished for next week. Here's some pics!
  20. So this was built like five years ago, originally intended to be sort of pro-touring style but ended up looking DONK...So today I had a revelation at the office... Ripped the wheels and tires from another model that was rather meh, prepped the stance, and slapped it all together in 45 miuntes. By the way, it took that long because this is the worst-assembling kit EVER. Finish is the original plastic, polished and Future'd. And yes, the wheels are bright orange, but somehow it all works. The foiling is a bit messed (five years and a move from Puerto Rico to San Antonio), but I'm not in the mood of redoing it right now...It looks better in person than in the pics. Dang it looks neat.
  21. Okay, did some more work today...Might do some more later but I gotta do some stuff around the house. I have the front suspension almost finished...After thinking how I was going to attach the front wheels, I went ahead and made the front wheels poseable! The steering link is not to scale in the pics; it's a temporary thing to keep them parallel. I drilled the sides of the chassis and hung the front rods from there. Finally, for the interior, I shortened a Lindberg 1934 Ford pickup bench seat. I might do the inner door panels in a few hours... It moves! Interior...
  22. "Okay, let's do some building tonight!" So you fire up the airbrush, and after you're done you realize a couple of dust specks have ruined the paint job. "Okay, let me drill this distributor", and as you do it the pin vise slips and you gouge the side of the distributor. Hmm. "Okay, let me get the tires for this set of wheels", and you never find the fourth tire after searching for 35 minutes. "Okay, let me assemble this chassis", and when you're done you notice that there's always one tire off the ground because the chassis is bent. "Okay, time to sleep".
