  1. wow - you don't see many of these planes online - even in the aircraft dedicated sites. I've never build a Lindberg kit (although am seriously eyeing off their Auburn Speedster kit under the name Pyro) and from everything Ive read, you have made a silk purse from a pigs ear. The plane itself reminds me of something Gerry Anderson might use in one of those shows. Definitely a plane of its era. I'm quite partial to the Shooting Star myself I see you also have a Vanship in that pile - did you make it or is it to be made? Great work! Si
  2. Hello once again everyone. It's been few months since this was last updated and sorry to say, I haven't done as much as you might hope I had, but I have finished off the top section - well, mostly. I still have the SMD's to add for the trench spot lighting but in regards to detailing, that's all done So here is the top section shown as finished. I added some of the bits that sort of frame some of the lines to balance it out. You'll catch my drift if you look at the last picture in the previous update and look to the left of the ship and you can see some chips that run down the mid-section in a line toward the front. They have been replicated on the other side to make it right. That was a lot of explaining for something so trivial, so I shall move on and let the pics do the talking: Its pretty much the same on the other side. I might yet bulk some of the rear section out some more but I need to see how the side walls go on first. I do need to sort out that section at the very back of the ship - looking at these reminded me about it The bottom hull has also been started. I made the very foolish mistake of gluing the nose to the body in a hurry to install the hangar bay. This in hindsight was very silly. I has also located glue marks and other blemishes on there and I am not happy about it. I do not know when or how they got there but I also realised I forgot to grind down the old hangar surrounds and it has created a gap where there shouldn't be and now I have to fix and live with my decision to install when I did. Still, none of this is unfix-able and I will fix it as much as I can accordingly. I just wish I hadn't created this unnecessary work for myself is all Well, that's all I have for now, but I will be back again soon enough. As always, thanks for stopping in and having a look Si
  3. thanks Joe! I must admit, I am rather partial to it as well. I did consider Black with red trim but this just seemed to work better. Glad to see some others from LSP here as well
  4. you don't use an airbrush?!? Fooled me! If this is your work now without one I can't wait to see what you do with one
  5. this is awesome - like almost everything else you've done! Are those silicon earbud thingies on the main engines? Black is a hard colour to paint and photograph, so great work on both counts. What shade/s of black did you use?
  6. that's some pretty brave surgery going on there. Well done on the results - it's made a huge difference. Nice 1:1 too I might say What's the ride height like on this - does it sits lower than the pics above?
  7. thanks Kurt. Yeah, the metal is Alclad. I couldn't justify spending a large amount of money on metal engine bells when Alclad will do a similar job
  8. thanks guys! If the show were to be remade, much better actors would be required - as well as a couple of design tweaks on the Eagle
  9. thanks Jim. It beats then traditional plain white for sure
  10. Hi everyone I've been a bit quite on the forums lately and that's because I've been spending more time building and less time writing. I had to take a break from the relentless detailing of the Star Destroyer (which I will go back to because I want to see it done), and so for the past month or so, I have been away quietly building my 48th scale 199 Eagle. I've long loved the design of this ship and have dreamed of having a kit of this as a boy when I saw it in an old Airfix catalogue but just never bought one until a couple of years back when I saw one of these going relatively cheaply instead I clearly grabbed one. Naturally, me being me, I also was never going to paint it like the show. Then I saw The Admiral's build (http://resinilluminati.com/showthread.php?t=17378 ) and it's inspiration from him that got me going on mine. So I naturally borrowed/stole his cockpit idea and subsequently made my own poorer copy. However, it reinforced my previous desire for a non standard white Eagle, so I came up with the most obvious option: paint it in black! Everything looks good in black right?! Painted in Tamiya NATO Black, flat black and German grey and something else to. The engine stuff is all painted in bare metal just because I thought it would look cool. That general concept is prevalent throughout this whole build really I'm going to blow my own horn here and state that I am super happy with how this came out. Yes - after taking the photos I realised that there are some paint issues to fix that have alluded me prior to now but they are easily fixed and TBH, I'm not going to take another series of shots to show them fixed. It's been hard enough to get enough light to take even these pictures. Love Melbourne weather! At any rate, you'll get the idea from the following pics and this is my rudimentary cockpit which I shamelessly stole from Bill. Thanks again mate!! I can't paint faces to save myself, so I sprayed shaped pieces of masking tape silver followed by clear red and a mist of clear orange. It looks much better to me The screens behind them are decals which I cut up and stuck onto the back wall with a hole behind it where fiber optic stubs had been inserted into the side panels - all lit by a single SMD each side. The red cockpit glow is a standard but sanded 5mm LED. It looks good against the black. Well, that was a fun build in so far as that I didn't have to make details for anything. Like I said, I'm super happy with this. I think it looks seriously cool, but that's just me Anyways, thanks for stopping by and having a look. Si
  11. that came out beautifully David! Well done mate. The speaker cloth is a great idea too
  12. that's a nice - if a bit odd, looking ship there David. You're lucky you didn't have to do rigging. That is an interesting task BTW, I never have an issue with people sharing stuff their builds on my threads, so yeah - you definitely may
  13. Thank you guys for the kind posts. I will have an update on this soon as I have been working on it again.
  14. I didn't realise that front bit was so exposed. Prime real estate for some wiring
  15. thanks very much for the kind posts guys Sorry Tim, I didn't think of that but next time I have the camera out, I'll take one and post it. I agree, it's a very unique ship and in my opinion, one of the nicest looking BB's of that era - well, as good looking as a ship can be I guess
  16. nice work on that interior. The metal finish is perfect You don't see too may of these being build these days. I'll be watching for sure
  17. Gosh I miss my old 300ZX - such a beautiful car. Woefully under-powered but still looks great even by today's standards. I don't really see this car on the roads these days. Sadly, the ones I've seen left going are not in the best shape or have been boy-racered Great build and thanks for the memories
  18. thanks guys. The rigging was surprisingly easier than I thought it would be. I bought some Ezi-line and I really like how easy it is to use. I really love the design of this ship. Maybe not so much having all of the firepower up front - that's not always a good thing. But those rear secondaries are very effective (in game anyway). Say what you will about computer games, it got me interested in WW2 battleships and cruisers. I have a Konigsberg, Nelson and a Yamato to do as well. I've already started the Konigsberg and that too will be in type 3 camo (splinter scheme basically). I don't care that they are not real life schemes. They look way more interesting than just grey.
  19. Hi guys I am a massive World Of Warships fan, and I recently built a 1/570 Scharnhorst for my friend who is also an avid player. I had a blast making it, so decided that I'd build a ship for myself. I bought the Flyhawk Konigsberg as well as this, the Trumpeter 1/700 Richelieu. In the game (XB-1 / PS-4) this is the top tier French Battleship (alongside the John Bart) and I love it. It's fast and maneuverable for a battleship and it just has that French beauty to it with its raked funnel and those awesome secondary batteries on the rear end. I used the Flyhawk PE set and the Artwox Wooden deck set. I think PE is wasted on me really. I'm not that good with it, which some of you may find surprising given the small nature of my other stuff, but PE is a very different animal to styrene. At any rate, it looks like the ship from the game, so that's all that really matters to me there The stand was just an exercise on rusting effects. I cut notes out of the top bits to try and make them look like hard rubber. Suppose I'd better go back to the SD but I am going to finish off the Konigsberg first. Besides, I don't have enough bench space with me working from home now. My work stuff takes up the rest of the space Anyways, thanks for stopping in and having a look Si
  20. Wow! I love this collection. Fantastic work on all of them
  21. Very nice collection. I particularly like the B-314 and have done so since I was a kid. I have the Anigrand 1/72 version to build one day. I'm also kinda partial to the ridiculously huge Spruce Goose. It's quite elegant given how big it was. Thanks for sharing these Si
  22. I had the camera out today for other things and decided today is a good a day as any to take a couple of update shots. I'm not as far along as I would have liked but I had the spare time. I'm almost finished the top. I just have to finish the edging and then the top will be considered done. I test fitted the bridge to the body to make sure I could. There are definitely going to be fitting issues but nothing some super glue won't take care of. Looks like I'll also have to add some more details once the body has been glued together to help tie in the areas better. This adds to the ever compounding issue of painting first or not (first world problems....) Anyways, that's all the pics I took but thanks for looking in. Si
  23. that's a very cool picture David - I really like that. I can also see why the reference Thanks to you as well John for your kind post. I'll be posting an update in a few weeks once I have the top done. The onto the bottom half. Yay
