  1. No, quite right. It was the discussion of a '67 R-code that led me down that path, but I forgot the OP didn't specify a year.
  2. Aside from the Webers being wrong, the big block injection manifold has incorrect port spacing and the Hiborn blower hat (assuming that's what it was meant to represent) is way undersize too - shown here on the right, next to the one from the Revell parts pack 427 Ford. That aside, it's a typical AMT annual but it looks fine when it's put together. I'm building this one as a late '60s gasser, after M/SP got rolled into the gas class.
  3. Welcome and Merry Christmas. What kind of thing are you planning to build?
  4. The Starliner engine is about the best FE but for an accurate R-code you'll want the pent roof valve covers. Might as well look for the AMT 427 Fairlane, which has the correct R-code intake and valve covers. The Fairlane engine is also pretty good and it has separate C6 and Toploader transmissions.
  5. Are you sure you have that right? That length makes no sense.
  6. Not quite, the 472 came out in 1968. The '59 390 still isn't correct though, because the '63 - '67 429 was redesigned with a front mounted distributor. The '59 also has a Hydramatic transmission, whereas the '66 would have a TH400.
  7. Thanks for the comments. Planning to get some paint on this at the weekend.
  8. Yes, same M&H slicks. I've noticed in recent reissues they have both 11.00-16 and 8.20-15 (or whatever the narrower Revell slicks were) markings on the sidewall. Fronts are the skinny Pirellis also found in the '31 sedan, Miss Deal etc.
  9. I have no idea on this one.
  10. Yeah, I see. I was going from memory, but obviously not on the money this time.
  11. No, that's an FE, and undersized at that.
  12. I think 10 is from the AMT '49 Merc. Number 17 can also be found in the Beatnik Bandit, and a slightly smaller pair of the same pattern is in the Revell '31 Woody/Tudor/Sedan Delivery. L - R '31 original issue, '31 latest reissue, Beatnik Bandit:
  13. It's similar to lime. Close grained and easy to work. Edit - you can buy basswood in Hobbycraft, probably other craft and model shops too.
  14. I recognise the back half... still working on the front.
  15. He's talking about a broker advertising the business as a whole, not someone looking to take over the product line..
  16. The problem with car movies is that movie and TV people seem to like wrecking cars. Maybe not such a big deal when the cars were new (cf. Bullitt), but how many Mercs were used up for Cobra, or Dodges in Death Proof?
  17. 1978 Dodge brochure: http://oldcarbrochures.com/static/NA/ChryslerTrucksVans/1978_Trucks-Vans/1978_Dodge_Pickups/1978 Dodge Pickups-13.html 3spd standard; 4spd or auto optional. Big block not available in the D100.
  18. That was when Ford closed its Southampton plant, where Transit vans were made. It was the last Ford plant in the UK.
  19. I have neither the funds nor the space for such a thing, but I'm interested to see it come together. I find a drop of graphite loaded 3-in-1 oil helps with self-tapping screws.
  20. Possibly... seems a lot of people assume that all the sub rails should be black, or get the rear right and still paint the fronts black, as if it's a GM F-body with a removable subframe. Should be the K member and trans mount only, as shown in the photo above.
  21. Nice job. Despite my username, I really like the '67 - '68 Firebirds and I almost bought a '67 twenty years ago. Still kick myself over that one, but it just seems like too much needed doing... This version of the kit is defintely the one to get vs. the Foose version. My only beef with it is that the engine looks much too wide. The '60s AMT and Revell Pontiacs look correct, but this one just seems 'off'.
  22. If you want an engine bay to put it in, buy a Revell '64 Thunderbolt for reference and scale that up.
  23. The base model is easy enough, but no luck discovering the coachbuilder so far...
