  1. Interesting project. Did you make those lift axle mounts?
  2. I did a quick overlay of JC's photos. Then I traced some of the body lines from the 1:1 photo. So, it doesn't seem like it needs quite as much surgery as I first thought. The front fenders are too tall, window openings need enlarging and the trailing edge of the front wheel well looks too upright. The rear quarter doesn't come down far enough behind the rear wheels - should be more like the MPC & Johan bodies. Front and rear look too short, but some of that could be down to the difference in photographing a model vs. a 1:1 vehicle.
  3. I see the difference, but to me, it looks like the Revell body doesn't come down far enough behind the rear wheel, rather than the lower body being too deep. I'd bring the rear of the wheel opening down to match the Johan body. However, the Revell body looks way too fat *above* the body crease, especially in the front fenders. I'd be thinking about sectioning it between the body crease and the beltline. The side window opening needs reshaping as well.
  4. Thanks for the comments, they help to keep me motivated... I got some work done on the interior today. I made new shifters from copper wire and mounted them further back than the kit locations, because all my references show them around there. I was planning to mount the kit shift knobs on top, but I seem to have lost those, so it's either make some, or use the spare DM800 ones from the kit.
  5. Attempted some weathering on the chassis, to knock down the "newness".
  6. Same kit. Airfix released the MPC '67 Charger and '67 GTO over here, listing them as 1/24 scale.
  7. Very impressive. There is an ugly/beautiful dichomoty with the H series that really appeals to me. I'd like to build one eventually, but I agree the resin cabs have some shortcomings, and I don't think I could reproduce the ribbed lower section as well as you have. Do you have any photos of the work in progress?
  8. Been a while since I checked this thread. Looking great!
  9. I think it is. I was thinking '50 - '51 Buick.
  10. Easy one this week.
  11. Here's the frame with the oil tank added. Rough mock up with the body. The body will sit higher when it's mounted properly. I cut new greedy boards from 1/16" basswood, which will be stained and weathered. Pintle plate - still have to make the hitch itself, and yes, I should have done that before I started throwing paint around... Not sure whether to add some tail lights, or stick with the ones on the body.
  12. Not a lot done this month due to work and family stuff, but I'll post some update photos later. I did some more on the interior, got a base coat on the engine, and mounted a hydraulic oil tank to the frame.
  13. That looks 1000 times better than the kit part. I'll be a customer when it's ready. I'd love to see a correct '72 grille as well, if anyone feels like doing one.
  14. Not really into the modern wheels, but that's a nice model. Pity the moulds were modified, leaving us with the ugly 1970 iteration. I'd much rather have a reissue of the '67.
  15. Thank you. I'm aiming for an east coast look, but I'm still tweaking things as I go. I think Jamie's wheels & tyres are miles better than the kit parts, just wish he did 24" ones.
  16. End of month update. I painted the wheels and I've modified the chassis to work with them. I discovered the body will have to mount a bit farther back to clear the exhaust, but I can make it work.
  17. Oh yeah, it wasn't meant to be a dig at Jamie. He was easy to work with and the parts are great. It was more the add-on costs resulting from the poor exchange rate, shipping and then being clobbered with import tax and a handling charge on top. Robbers!
  18. I bought some 22" Mack wheels and tyres from Moluminum. They came out almost twice the cost of the kit after shipping and taxes, but hey... I painted the interior and inside the cab green. It's maybe closer to a B model interior green, but it'll get toned down with some weathering powder. Cab exterior, body and wheel spokes will be red.
  19. Still creeping along. I've reassembled the dump body, built the engine and started on the interior.
  20. Would still be closer than that... why put work into copying the construction details when the body is so obviously wrong?
  21. Much easier than the last two.
  22. I have several of the late '70s Matchbox/AMT CF doubles and there's definitely no chrome in those.
  23. Thanks for the comments. Yes, the frame will be bobbed, just deciding what to do with the rear crossmember. I might make up a deep rear crossmember with a trailer hitch, as I've seen on some 1:1s.
  24. It looked fine in your mock up the other week and all the wheels appear to be touching the "ground"? The hood's obviously off to the bumper, so something's out of whack. Have a break and come back to it with fresh eyes.
