Great Subject - Great Build. Nice work Gerald ! Your patina work is awesome...especially on the rear fenders. I was doing some preliminary noodling with using the Foose Ford chassis to put under my '50 Chevy P/U last week. I wanna get it in the weeds and this seems to be the best way to do it. I did see that I would have to move the rear axle back about an 1/8" or so. Thanks for sharing what you encountered with your chassis swap.

Ramcharger SRT custom
Fish_65 replied to BeakDoc's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Very cool truck Chris & I like the color choice too...well, I like everything about it. Nice work. It looks so much better with those tires than the kit supplied tires...beefy & rugged now. What kit did the Hemi come out of? -
Thanks Oliver, Chris X2, Craig & Ron for the kind words.

Sweet Caddy JPS. I like it a lot. Hard to tell the model from the real car, like others have said. I have one Decko kit and I think it looks great too. Looking forward to starting on it.

Great project Steve. Can't wait to see it done. Your custom body mods look great and really accentuate the car's original lines. Paint job is sweet too. You don't see enough custom/modified early 60's Mopars. I think they make great platforms for this kind of build.

Super cool project. I'll be watching. What are the new front wheels ? I have a stalled project that's almost identical to yours. I used a modified Revell '67 Chevelle Pro St chassis under mine.

Awesome build. Love everything about it, especially the color combo. I look forward to seeing that Short-Wide getting done. -
Thanks Guys ! I appreciate the kind comments. This kit went together so nice I'm gonna build another one Old school Street Machine though...Big Block, Tunnel Ram, Cragars or Slots...should be a hoot.

I attended a Hot Rod Drag Week at Great Lakes Dragway a few years ago and was inspired to build a car that you would see participating in that event. I really like street machines and drag cars so it didn't take much convincing to build it, lol. So it's kind of a mashup between the 1st issue Revell '69 Nova & the Revell COPO Nova with a little AMT '66 Nova sprinkled in. When I ran across the Firebird Designs decals, I knew I had to build a Rally Nova. The rundown: SBC from the 1st issue Nova with a MAD distributor and a few parts box goodies. I really liked the way it looked with a tall slick, but couldn't fit them because of the wheelhouse size. So I grafted the rear frame section from the AMT Pro St 66 Nova to the '69 chassis to make room for the slicks (seems like a bunch of work to end up with leaf springs, but it gets the job done). I used all the non-SS body parts and front bench seat from the COPO kit. I used the roll bar from the 1st issue and there is no back seat. I painted the body with Testors Citrus Yellow Metallic lacquer straight out of the rattle can followed by Testors One-Coat clear. The green seems close enough to a factory color for me. Wheels are from the AMT '57 Vette St Machine kit and the tires are from the box-o-parts. I will be adding a trailer hitch in the near future and may build a tag along trailer too. I had a LOT of fun building this and it's one of my favorite builds to date. Thanks for looking and comments are welcome.

Thanks for the nice comments Scott, James, Mark & Carl. Mark, It was a great feeling to get this one out of the box and on the shelf. I have way too many similar model projects and I need to take care of that problem. So many that are so close to being done. And yes, the floor is flocked.

Hey James, It's not very easy getting a pic of the headers on the car. The camera wants to focus on everything but the headers. Anyway, this is the best I can do and a pic of a loose set.

Traditional AMT '34 Ford Pickup
Fish_65 replied to Fish_65's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I stand corrected. I had to look back at my build progress pics...you had me wondering what I did Tim. I did not use the whole Revell chassis, but swapped in the suspension parts. I do suffer from CRS from time to time -
Traditional AMT '34 Ford Pickup

Thanks for the positive feedback guys. Much appreciative. Tim, I actually swapped the whole Revell 32 chassis. -
I just finished this up a few months ago. Our club decided to build gassers for our display at the Milwaukee NNL this year. I started building this when the kit came out in 1995? I hit a roadblock and it went back in the box because of a lack of decent headers for a Pontiac (Revell '68 Firebird to the rescue !). The body was painted and the chassis was done back in 95/96, so I can't even remember what color it's painted. I deleted the rear seat and scratchbuilt a 6 pt roll bar. Tires and wheels came from the box-o-parts. It has the kit engine with a MAD distributor and blower and hat from the Monogram Hairy Olds kit...I think lol. Decided to go bold with a red interior...I typically hate blue cars with red interiors, but I think it works (I had a blue Mustang II back in high school with a red interior and couldn't stand it). I still need to add a few underhood details yet and just realized the driveshaft is MIA. Thanks for looking and comments are welcome.

So I'm pretty new here and nobody has really seen any of my work. I'll be posting a few of my builds over the next week or so. I feel guilty looking at everyone's models and not participating. I built this late last year and wanted to do a early 60's style hot rod. It was one of those bucket-list builds as I built one as a kid and that one is long gone. I really don't build much hot rod stuff, but I had a lot of fun with this. Started with the 70's issue AMT '34 Ford pickup kit (orange body-black fenders on boxart). Deleted the side mount tire hole in the passenger front fender and a couple other minor body tweaks. I used 2 '59 El Camino toneau covers to make a bed floor and door panels from them as these kits really lack on interior detail. I swapped in a Revell '32 Ford chassis which went in like it was made for it - very little to make it work. I robbed the Fuelie SBC from the '62? Revell Corvette kit and add a MAD distributor. Tires and wheels are Pegasus chrome steel big & littles. Body was painted with Testors Nassau Blue straight from the rattle can and then cleared with Testors One-Coat. Hope you like. Comments are welcome.

Thanks for posting this David. I've really been chompin' at the bit to see this. I'll be watching to see what you do with yours. I'm leaning towards building a 340 4 barrel car (not an AAR) and use the extra dual scooped hood from the 1st issue Hemi kit.
-
100% correct Nick, '63/'64 MW only. Scoop #1 is '64 (A864) & '65 (A990) Hemi only scoop (curved back is '64/'65 - flat back is '67 RO/WO Hemi) Scoop #2 is the custom scoop from AMT '69 Chevelle kit. Super cool project BTW !

Awesome build and execution Steve. I love these old-meets-new kind of projects. I've always thought that the Johan bodies were the best proportioned, but the interiors & chassis really lacked. It's also nice to see these seldom seen kits built and not just squirreled away collecting dust. I'm really glad you removed the skirts. I also have a '65 & '66 Fury kits and couldn't quite bring myself to take the skirts off, but I probably will now...on at least one of them anyway. Keep up the great work and I "forward look" to seeing it finished

Can you post some pics of yours Tony ?
-
I thought the bodysides looked better than the latest '70 kit (not so slabsided) and the roofline looks better than the '95 issue (not a chopped top).
-
Does anybody know if the "new" AAR is based off the latest '70 Cuda kit, a reissue of the AAR from 1995 or a new tool ?
-
It's great that you include several different engine call outs with the decal sets, but I was thinking about a single decal sheet with a multi-brand mixture of just engine call out emblems. Do you have a LRE kit ? I might be able to help out on getting you a longbox bed if that helps. Pretty sure I have a spare from an older issue.

Nice job Tom ! It turned out great. I have a 1:1 '65 Belvedere project in my garage so I have a real soft spot for them. Good motivation for me to get one of these built too.
