1986 Dodge Ram 50
Fish_65 replied to spencer1984's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Very cool Bill ! Perfect rendition of the 1:1. I really like seeing rarely built kits and models of vehicles you would see in the real world. -
As much as I think it will be cool to have a new 4 door kit I'm a little worried. R2 has not tooled anything new since taking ownership, in the model car world anyway. Is the "4 door" conversion of the 2 door gonna be a decal set ? I actually wish it would be a 4 door sedan (Biscayne) as it would have way more building possibilities. Even better would be a 2 door sedan ! I think it would be a pretty small group of buyers...I don't know anyone that watches the show.

Looks like you're off to a great start Tom. I'll be watching this.

Oni Kyan Gremlin ?

Very cool Tom, I like it a lot. Is the only body mod the rear wheel opening fix ?

Nice ! I've been a Mopar guy since day 1 too...came home in a '66 Coronet 2dr sedan (factory 383 4spd).

My daily ride is a 2011 Ram 2500 4x4. Wife's daily is a AWD 300C...and 2 '65 Plymouth projects in the garage (Valiant & Belvedere II). Yes, I'm a Mopar guy

Traditional AMT '34 Ford Pickup
Fish_65 replied to Fish_65's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanks for the super nice comments guys. I would encourage anybody to build this kit. I really enjoyed building it and for an old kit it goes together fairly well. -
Hey Snake, I'm liking your idea very much. I think the 64/65 Chevelle makes a great drag car, especially as a AWB/AFX/match racer. It has to have a big block and 8 stacks through the hood though. The Malcom Durham AWB 65 Chevelle is one of my favorite Chevy drag cars. As far as the rarity of a Z16 back in the day goes, think about this....there was only about 200 Chrysler A990 cars built in 1965 and those got painted, altered, chopped up and wrecked. I don't see any reason that being a Z16 would have prevented anybody from modifying one back in the day...it was just another car then.

I agree, but it does have license plates Thanks for the nice comments John & David.

Hey John, I'm pretty happy with the axle swap. The "pig"/carrier doesn't look 100% accurate, but I'm OK with it. I can't believe I got everything to sit still long enough to get a pic without falling apart...nothing is glued together yet.

This was built as a companion to my '69 Nova. I refer to them as the Lemon & the Lime and display them next to each other on my shelf. Here's the Nova http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/143520-1969-nova-the-kiwi/?tab=comments#comment-2104343 I started this project with a Johan 1970 442. As with the Nova, I wanted to build something with a Hot Rod Drag Week/Street Outlaws kind of vibe. I used a AMT '69 442 chassis which was basically a drop in swap. I think I robbed the BBC from the AMT '68 El Camino (or could be the AMT '70 Monte Carlo ??) as this had to have an automatic trans. I added some go fast goodies for the engine from the parts box and a MAD distributor. I used the stock interior tub, but added a scratchbuilt roll cage and a driver. Tires and wheels came from the parts box, decals are Fred Caddy W30 and paint is Testors One-Coat Inca Gold with One-Coat clear. The worst part of the build was creating the outlaw style cowl hood. I cut the cowl scoop from a resin hood I had and grafted it to the kit hood. Sounds pretty easy, but the 442 hood has huge low spot between the raised "fake scoops". It took a lot of filling, filing and sanding to fill it in and to get it to look right. I'm very happy with how it turned out. Thanks for looking, comments are welcome.

Last night I thought I would address the "Elephant Rearend" in the room...the kit's Dana 60. It took me quite a while to find a suitable/usable Chrysler 8 3/4" rear axle as most Mopar kits have a Dana 60. I settled on the 8 3/4" from the AMT '58 Plymouth kit. It was very close in overall width and axle tube diameter to the Dana 60. So I basically cut the axle ends off the Dana 60 and put them on the 8 3/4". Before removing the axle ends I drilled a .060" hole through both housings so I could locate and pin the ends. That gave me factory kit attachment and the ability to use the kit wheel mounting.

So, I hope I don't jinx myself because it seems like every WIP I've started on a forum never got finished...wish me luck lol Got the new Revell '70 AAR kit in the mail last week. My immediate thought for the car was to build a 340 4 barrel car, not an AAR. I have the 1st release of the Revell Hemi "Cuda kit too and plan on building the Hemi car with the Shaker hood (aka, the I.Q.E.C.A.G hood). I will be using the extra hood from the Hemi 'Cuda on this build (two-scoop/Rallye). I robbed the single 4 barrel intake, carb & air cleaner from the AMT 340 Duster kit and I'm hoping those play well with the Revell 340 from the kit. I also have a set of Fred Cady 'Cuda decals which have the 340 Hockey Stick Stripes and the 340 hood emblems.

Nice score ! Can't have enough C-Bodies in the stash. Now you need to get a set of '68 Plymouth wheelcovers from Shapeways. https://www.shapeways.com/product/BTYM7S823/1-25-1969-plymouth-satellite-wheels?optionId=65839534

Most beautiful cars of all time
Fish_65 replied to El Roberto's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Beauty is in the eye of the Beer-Holder...lol I completely agree with you Steve...Countach = U-G-L-Y, you ain't got... -
Great color choice David. Looks great. I just got mine in the mail today and can't wait to start on it. Just an observation, not knit-picking the kit any more because I'm glad we have it. I'm pretty sure that AARs did not come with a front skid plate. I couldn't find any reference to one anyway. Pretty sure it was a Hemi only thing...maybe I'm wrong.

Hobby Lobby Summer 19 clearance
Fish_65 replied to Mr. Metallic's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The store I went to yesterday just got their clearance pricing information yesterday. They were in the process of marking everything down while I was there. I bought a couple kits LOL -
I don't think they ever existed in LHD, but I would like a LHD dash for the Tamiya 71/72? Skyline GT-R.

This is a super cool project JC ! Can't wait to see it finished. I love kit bashing mash-up stuff.
-
Plasti-Claus stopped at my place today ! 1st time I've bought anything from Shapeways & I'm very happy.

1928 Ford Sedan 60's Style Altered UPDATED 2/10/19
Fish_65 replied to Dennis Lacy's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Great project Dennis & I'm really looking forward to see it done. You 100% nailed the look you were after. Love the chop, the color combo and the orange looks great against the silver & gray. Nice to see this kit get built instead of the ones collecting dust on a shelf. -
Cool project Ray ! Are you gonna extend the front-end like the 1:1 is ?
