Slammed GMC Squarebody
Fish_65 replied to Fish_65's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanks guys! I did manage to get the chassis sitting on all 4 last night. The only issues I really had was that the rear axle is now sitting on the frame rails (had to sacrifice reality for lowness ?) and I had to move the axle back about .100" to get it centered in the wheel opening. I added .100" x .100" square stock to the kit mounting area for the 4 bar mount (circled area). It has a slight amount of hot rod rake, but I'm good with it. -

Funny you should mention the previous generation C10...before committing to using the '84 I considered using the chassis on the AMT '72 GMC stepside. Possibly a future project. -

Thanks everyone. I am having a lot of fun with this one & I encourage you guys to give it a try. Just a minor update...After I cut the low hanging sections out of the interior tub out I realized I didn't really have any transmission tunnel. Not enough to work with anyway. So I decided I just replace the whole floor. I found an AMT 70 Monte Carlo floor pan in my junkbox so I grafted it in. I'm really happy with that. Almost looks like it was meant to be. I am off work today and am hoping to get it sitting on all 4 by the end of the day...stay tuned. -

This is a project I've wanted to do for a loooong time. A while back I bought a couple of chassis' from the Revell Foose '56 Ford pickup kit for just this purpose...low modern-styled pickup trucks. So, yesterday I started cutting stuff to see where it would lead me. I think this is gonna be a fairly simple/quick project and it looks like the wheelbase is going to be super close. I glued the radiator support in its stock location and it pretty much sits level on the frame and it's going to be LOW! I cut the bed floor out and after a little research I found that the kit rear wheel tubs don't look anything like the 1:1 trucks. I cut the wheel tubs from an AMT '72 Chevy C10 bed I had in my junk box and I think they look much better. I made a bed floor from sheet stock for a contemporary custom look. The bed floor was raised about a 1/4". I plan on using the Deckoco resin big diameter "steel" wheels in the pics, not sure about caps or no caps yet. I had to cut the front lower section out of the interior tub as the Foose chassis is flat and the original chassis has a area that goes down in the front. I may back-burner this for a bit as there are a couple other projects that need to get done 1st, but I at least wanted to see what I was in for and if it would work. Thanks for looking!

Just finished this one up last week. It was a lot of fun to build and it completely changed from the original concept, but I'm pretty happy with it. It was going to be a green shiny paint truck with Pegasus chrome reverses and pinner whitewalls. The more research I did the more I found images of the JDM shop truck...I like that truck a lot. So the plan changed and it ended up like this. I built a few of these Datsun pickups back in the 70s, but they never turned out that well. I didn't want to get too crazy so it's basically out of the box with some paint detailing. I lowered the suspension with an assortment of street rod parts and used the steel wheels from the Revell 57 Chevy Black Widow kit (6 lugs) along with a set of American Satco 165/70R14 tires. The paint is Rust-Oleum Chalked Farmhouse Red that was weathered by wet-sanding down to the primers and using some Rustall here and there. Thanks for looking. Comments welcome.

That turned out great Russell. Nice work ? I was half expecting an LS engine in it judging by your title though ?

That's Supra-Cool ! Love it. I may have to steal that weathering technique from ya...looks great

That's super cool. Excellent job on the weathering ?

So I just finished this one up. Started as the F&F kit I bought from a club member at our last meeting. It was pretty much all there, but was missing a few parts. Figured I could build something cool out of it and it would prepare me for the stock '70 Charger build I've have coming up. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. It has the look I was after with a little kitbashing. Paint is Testors One-Coat 1846 Pure Gold (looks like an OEM color to me). Wheels are from the AMT '57 Vette Street Machine kit, front tires are from my parts box and the rear tires are from the AMT Baldwin Motion Camaro kit. I substituted a Johan Hemi intake (looks like a 90s Mopar crate engine intake), a Revell/Monogram Holley Dominator carb and the distributor is a MAD unit. I added a scratch-built fuel system and gas tank sump. I still need to add some plates and maybe a couple details yet. Comments and criticism welcome ?

Sweet looking truck and you did a great job on it. How bad was it to convert it to non-camper-special wheelbase ? -

Looking good Steve ! What blue did you use on the roofs ? It looks like a very close match to the decals. -

65 Ford Galaxie R Code or XL...need advice.
Fish_65 replied to Brutalform's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Your '64 Galaxie promo looks like the 90s issue ERTL issue, so warping due to the plastic used should not be the problem. Must have gotten hot.
