I know i'll be in the minority here but I would like to see AMT update there 95 Ford Ranger kit into an 07 XLT, would be an easy conversion for them, only major differences are front fascia, talights, and some minor stuff in the interior, it would allow them to get a little more life out of that tooling or even better, they can update there 4X4 promo to an 07 4X4 extended cab Ranger. I know AMT won't even consider these, they would prohibably be decent sellers, not huge but they would sell enough to pay for the tooling

first off, alittle history of the commando I found at www.jeep-commando.com he Jeep Commando was manufactured between 1966 to 1973. From 1966 to 1971 the Jeep Commando had a front grille that resembled more like a CJ. In 1972, AMC changed the front of the jeep to look more like a passenger car. Sales fell and the Commando was discontinued after 1973. Because of the short time of production, the Jeep Commando is a rare, hard to find Jeep. A lot of people say the Jeep Commando looks a lot like the International Scout and the Ford Bronco. In 1966, Jeep, then owned by Kaiser, launched the Jeepster Commando to compete with the Bronco and Land Cruiser. The Jeepster Commando was available only in three models: a convertible, pickup truck, and a wagon (like the Jeepster, this was a really cool looking vehicle in my opinion). The (Kaiser) Jeepster Commando stayed in production until 1969. In 1970 AMC bought Jeep from Kaiser, and then in 1972 AMC shortened the name to just Commando and changed the grill design to look more like that of a Bronco, but it didn't catch on. The Jeep Commando was taken out of production in 1973. Check out The American Jeepster Club for more on these cool Jeep spin-offs. It's funny because a lot of jeeps have been brought back to life or are a concept vehicle now. I personally think the new jeep commander was brought back to replace the old commando. Sometimes you just can not replace what is lost. Further information about the Commando: The Jeepster Commando was initially produced by Kaiser Motors in 1966 to run up against with the Toyota Land Cruiser and Ford Bronco. It was pmanufactured in three different models which included: the pickup truck, convertible, and wagon. The Kaiser line remained in production until around 1969, until American Motors Corporation or (AMC) bought Kaiser out in 1970. From the time that AMC bought the jeepster line from Kaiser in 1970, the Jeepster Commando steadily grew in popularity everywhere. In 1972, AMC shortened the vehicle's name to simply "Commando" and changed the front end design to be similar with the Ford Bronco. The vehicle line, formerly an AMC best seller, quickly dropped in popularity and was taken out of production sometime in 1973. The Jeepster is an ancestor of the modern Jeep family produced by DaimlerChrysler. There are several Jeepster clubs across the United States. ______________________________________________________________ This is a private production kit through Stevens International, which is a good thing becouse its molded in white, not AMT's normal Gray, the is the first time this kit has been released in 20 years. This kit represents the 1972-1973 version of the Commando, the last year for production. althought for some wierd reason the 1966-1971 front grill is included in the kit, even though it would require alot of scratchbuilding to get it to fit. The body is very nicely done, AMT did an fantastic job protecting the fragile window frame. they added some cardboard so that it would not get smashed, there are some small panel lines on the body, but they can be sanded of very easily. taped to the bag with the body is the glass, which is also very well protected. using bubble rap. it appears that the windows from the earlier issues with the full top are still on the tree for the glass. there are a few items that snuck there way into this kit from other issues. This kit features the "rare" half cab for the Commando, most where available with full tops. you can also omit the top so that you can build a convertible. stock front and rear bumpers are included, and a plastic spare tire is still there from the back This kits high point is the choices of wheels, I counted 4 different sets, 1 for the truck showed on the box, a set of steel wheels, stock hubcaps, and some good looking 70's vintage turbine style wheels. there are only two tire choices, the ones on the box and stock "Goodyear" tires, which appear to me like they need more rubber, i'm planning on using some American Satco Bridgestone Mud Dueler tires for a softcore offroad look, The interior is pretty basic, but so is the 1:1, so there's not much to say about it The motor in the kit I believe is the 304 in³ (5.0 L) AMC V8, there was an inline 6 available for it, but thats not whats in the kit. it pretty nice with good detail, has a really nicely detailed transfer case connected to the engine. everything on the chassis is seperate, which makes it nice and easy to modify like giving it a bigger lift. This is one fastastic kit and i'm happy to see it reissued, since there are many 4X4 kits out there. this is appears to be a very good one and should be an enjoyable build, I just wish that the snow plow and full top was in this kit like there earlier versions

I did this review a few years ago over at A.F. Revell 2004 Chevy SSR Chevrolet introduced the SSR at the 2000 Detriot Auto show and it was a huge hit, enough so Chevy decided that they would produce the popular 2 seat roadster. Powered by GM's bulletproof 5.3 litre Vortec all aluminum V8. which produces 300 horses. which is connected to a 5sp Automatic transmission The Chevy SSR has a very unique convertible top, which comes apart and folds into a small compartment. which allows there to be alot of trunk space. The most striking item on the SSR is the styling, vintage Chevrolet. with smooth lines. The SSR wears 19" rims up front, and 20's in the rear. giving the truck/car a classic lean to it. Revell did a fantastic job replicating this truck to scale. molded in black, transparent, red, gray, and white plastic. which helps in the painting process. there are four small mold line on the truck, on the front under the headlight, and about 3/4 of the way down the bed, which are very easy to remove. cause they are in places that don't have alot of detail that could be sanded away. there is 0 flash on this kit, everything is super clean, just like Tamiya kits. The kit also includes and up top, which is perfect. and fits to the body perfectly. which is a rare thing cause up tops usually warp, and don't fit that well. The motor on this kit is great, but it is missing two items. A quick cross reference with the Silverado reveals a missing air conditioning pump (part #54 in the Silverado kits). A/C is standard on the 1:1 SSR. Also missing is the oil filler cap (part #95 in the Silverado kits). but they are easily fixed. The chassis is screw together. which at first glance is a turn off, but, when the kit is completely assembled, those screws can not be seen. and are well hidden. The interior is where I feel this kit shines. fully detailed, and its missing nothing, even has the OnStar buttons on the rear view mirror. which is a detail I thought Revell was gonna miss. The rims are fantastic, the crome is perfect on it. and they replicate perfectly the SSR's rims. imperfections on this kit are non existant. it is perfect. it is as good as Tamiya quality. if not better. retail price of the kit is $10.50. which is in line with Revells recent new kits. I give it 9/10.

Model Car Building on TV
gasman replied to Al Rogers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
the movie "40 days and 40 nights" with Josh Hartnett, one of the ways he passed the time (since this is a G rated forum I won't stat the premise of the movie) He build models, in it was a Tamiya VW Carmen Gia, Tamiya 1:12 Super Seven, AMT 57 Edsel prepaint, and a Revell Caprice Taxi. also remember an episode of "Yes Dear" from a few years ago when they where trying to get there fathers involved in hobbies, so they had them build models, IIRC there was a new tool AMT 57 Chevy, and an AMT 56 Nomad BTW, i'm a little ahead of the PS2 and XBOX generation, although I own an XBOX and a PSP, and spend hours on them, car modeling is something i've done since I was 5, when I was in a newly opened Wal-Mart, and my parents bought me a Monogram snap 1:32 Bronco, i've been hooked ever since -
picked up a very restorable 72 Challenger over the weekend, only problem is that it is missing the hood, would a 71 hood be correct for a 72, I've done some searching but i've got some mixed responces

welcome Greg, nice to see some more PA modelers here, although i'm from the other side of the state

terrible news, I was getting ready to order paint for my SuperAmerica, hope Leon comes back, he's produces a fantastic product -
wow, what a dissapointment, an STS?, so all the 60-80 year olds can build a version of there 1:1, The EXT better be an 07, it would be stupid to produce an 06 when AMT already has a nice 06 on the market. and notice alot are listed as 1:24 scale. is Revell maybe changing scales on us. and notice the 300C and Charger SRT-8's. would be nice to build an SRT-8 but the AMT kit has been out for a while now, and the Testors Charger is supposedly going to be out very soon. it would be awsome if the Silverado is the 07, but its prohibably just a reissue of the 99, alot of reissue's, most of which can still be found very easily, the SVT F-150 is at Toys-R-Us for 5.99, as idicated on HH, the 70 AAR Cuda will have an updated body, I wonder how the AMT kit will compare with the Revell. since there both going to produce 1970 Plymouth Cuda kits.

Deffinently need to order some of those Muscle Magic US Steel Daytona Type 16 inch
-
oK, I thought it was an AMT kits, so searching came up with nothing, then when I searched for an MPC Blazer this came up
-
hmm, notice the 70 Cuda kit is not listed as a New tool, i'm guessing there going to start with the old AMT 74 snap, a new chassis, and engine detail would be great, and if it was backdated to a 70 that would be great to, always liked the lines of AMT's 74 Cuda, even though it is such a basic kit. can anyone fill me in on the 75 Blazer snap, I don't remember that kit

no, no one does. there is only a 1:27 Mastio Diecast

Three Rivers Show Pics
gasman replied to Wildrice's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
looked like a good show as usual, missed it for the second year in a row though, had some family come in, sucks since Castle Shannon is only a 20 minute drive for me, and I used to work in that area -
I've deicided to build the pre-cooters car from the movie, which is the dirty old looking Charger, anyone know of these steel wheels in 1:25 scale? I have them 1:24 scale but they look way to big on the car, also, is there a color close to this one? the nice General Lee is painted big bad orange. (The TV show car war Corvette Orange), I know I have to weather it alot but I wonder if I should just paint it big bad orange or if I should paint it something lighter then weather that

Here's what I say, this kit is NOT for the hardcore modeler. it is intended for the weekend modeler, maybe 12-16 years old. who looks and see's a cool looking kit. and does'nt care about accuracy, or anything like that. both cars resembly JADA DUB City diecasts. which are very popular. so anything that helps sell kits is welcomed. but as a hardcore modeler i'm only getting these kits for parts, and comparo I saw online about the AMT Z and the Tamiya Z show that both are very close in size. so i'm hoping to be able to use the motor of out the AMT in the Tamiya kit and make a full detail NISMO Z

who out there produces accurate decals to do the General Lee. i'm building the movie car. but that does'nt matter as they are idetical to the TV Car

Does anyone make these rims?
gasman replied to Tuffy's Garage's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
They appear to be a cromed steel wheel, with some sort of small hubcap in the middle. the AMT 1966 T-bird has cromed steel wheels sorta like that in the kit -
anyone know if the North Central West Virginia scale modelers will have a show this year in November. I can't find any info about it anywhere. but they say they will have a MODCON VIII on there site.
