Time Capsule Plymouth
gasman replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
had a conversation ith someone I work with today. and forgot one thing, you need oxygen to produce rust. if the hole was sealed. and very little oxygen got into the vault, then the cars stands a very good chance of being in decent shape. a little soggy, but in good shape. if you notice they used the original beams in which the car was placed in the ground to lift it up. that right there is a good sign. they where still in good shape, and showed very little rust. and they werent protected by the elements. -

she's out of the water, and out of the hole, and surprisingly. they got it out and its still in 1 piece. so there is still hope for it. but notice the rear fender. notice the rear fender. looks like the covering came off, but it looks more muddy then rusty. oh well, guess we'll know at 12.00 P.M. -

AFX was making one, but it disappeared. someone from HH about 4-5 years ago casted one, but I can remember his name. and I don't know if he's still casting them. if someone steps up to the plate and makes one, i'll buy a couple -

I think the car will be fairly rusted, tires will be rotted, and interior will be a mess. but the car will still be savable. all be the floors will need to be replaced. fenders will need replaced. but the car will be a good project for a restoration. If the car is a total loss I won't be surprised to see it end up in The Smithonean. I think anyway the car is pulled out of the hole its going to a museum. I wonder what they would think in 1957 if people heard about the car.....on this crazy thing called the Internet :? -

here's more pictures. water was deffinently over the trunk lid. you can still see it here. and you can see here, it looks like the plastic covering has a come apart. and the water has a "rusty" Color to it it is still recognizable as a 57 Plymouth, but, I don't think its going to be pretty underneath. -

judging by these pics. the car was completely submersed in water at some time. you can see the different water levels on the wall. odds are car is so rusted they won't be able to lift it out of the ground. and everything in it is unrecognizable. its really a shame, but they had no idea in 1957 what 50 years underground would do to a car. I'm surprised its still recognizable. i've seen cars pulled at of water after 10 years that are rusted all the heck and unrecognizable also. I doubt if even the great engine guy Boyd Coddington ( :?: )can make that car start. but, hey, it just may start. EDIT:, after doing some reading, the car was wrapped in some special plastic that was supposed to protect it against water. if that claim is true, and the stuff actually worked. then maybe, just maybe, the car will be ok. -
amazing stuff as usual. awesome build

Another LHS Closing the Doors
gasman replied to Bruce Poage's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
hobby shops are all about location, location, location. I feel lucky to have 5 good hobby shops in my area. and they all seem to be very successful. The only hobby shops that have closed in my area where in terrible locations. It was in a tiny strip mall next to an India Grocery store. Most people prohibably had no idea it was even there. My main LHS is in a large shopping complex. opposite a Target. there's always alot of people shopping in there. -
one of my favorite movies of all time. cool to see them doing it again. I wonder if Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, and Jerry Reed and the rest of the cast (except for Jackie Gleason, and Pat McCormick, RIP  ) are going to maybe show up in Atlanta for the end of the ride. sounds cool, wish I had a 77 Trans Am. I wonder what Jerry Reed's up to today, I haven't heard about him doing anything since 1998's "The Waterboy"

looks awsome, I got an MPC 78 Vette a few weeks ago and I agree with you, the MPC kit is nicer then the Revellogram, better detail too.
-
thats proof that the auto manufactures, can never come up with an design of there own, and they never could,
-
The MPC 78 kit does'nt have that rear end. I just checked

I do not like the new Malibu, The Camry already has one major thing against the Malibu. a Hybrid. plus I see the Malibu selling to a slightly aged crowd. (and by aged, I mean 80 year olds). car just doesn't look sporty enough for me. plus the Malibu name has the same stigma that the Taurus name has, Rent-a-car. The only car out there that can compete with the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and Hyundai Sonota, is the Ford Fusion, and that car does extremely well. looks great, good power, and AWD. GM is still missing the boat.

nevermind, they just peeled right off

Anyone know how to remove decals that where on some AMT promo's in the early 90's, I want to remove some STX decals from a 94 Ranger promo, but I'm not sure what will get them off.

when I bought my truck in November I bought if off an Aston Martin dealer. while waiting for my paper work to get done, They had a nice black on black 348 Spyder in the showroom, nice car, thought it was a little cheap inside, but a nice car, not as nice as the 07 Vantage I sat in after that -

I've gotten into Hot Wheels recently, mostly Matchbox. some NASCAR diecasts if they catch my eye. some have actually gotten to be very valuable, like my 2000 Jimmie Johnson rookie Busch car. which I saw go for almost $500 on EBAY a few weeks ago. not bad for a $19 investment -
