I tend to build more over the summer then in the winter months. I have three weeks off coming up in July. so that will be prime building time, since i'm only working 20 hours a week. with $4.00 a gallon gas I won't be going any where

looks great. Izzy, nice build as usual.

Question about SPEED
gasman replied to Nick F40's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
SPEED had it highest rated program ever over the weekend..... and it was a NASCAR race. like I said they'll show what gets the ratings, but i'll have too look into that "The Racing Network". looks good if it will happen. I'll still watch more SPEED though since I'm a NASCAR fan. -
How's everyones gas prices?
gasman replied to forthlin's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
but odds are that 92 Cutlass is paid off. and the insurance is'nt that high on it. the person that is really hurting are middle class family's with 3 or more kids, driving the family Minivan 300 miles a week to baseball. and soccer, band...etc.... having to keep those kids fed and healthy. -
The Tamiya kit looks good. the fact that its full detail is nice. but its going to be a pita the paint that engine. I like the LHD and RHD dash choiced. I'm gonna wait till I see what the Aoshima and Fujimi kits look like when I make my decision on what kit to get. but i'm deffinently getting a GTR kit

How's everyones gas prices?

what really makes me mad is that it seems like our president could care less about the price of gas. seems like he more worried about what country he going to invade next. We have the oil in this country, but for some reason congress (democrats) won't let them drill there. even though people in those regions would welcome drilling. instead of blaming everyone else for our problems we need to find a way too fix them. GM has the Volt coming out soon (even with a $40,000 price tag there is alot of interest for this), I wish GM, Ford, Toyota, and Dodge would spend money making there fuel efficient vehicles for fuel efficient. seems like there sticking Hybrid motors into Tohoe's and Durango's, which still struggle to get 20 MPG, when they should be making hybrids of Cobalts, Focus, and Caliber's. which could get 45+ MPG's. I think the second coming of the Muscle car is nearing its end. and Chevy and Chysler are late to the party (Like AMC) your gonna start seeing cars with less then 100 hp again. and the cars will get smaller and smaller. -
I've been planning on building a super detailed General Lee for some years now. i'll get to it eventually, but to build an accurate General Lee here is what you'll need Revell 69 Charger, for the grill, front bumper, rear bumper. and some parts here an there Revell 68 Charger, for the body, since it doesn't have the molded in vinyl top. AMT General Lee kit, for the decals, but I would recommend looking online and getting some, there is a decal maker who is making more realistic General Lee decals IIRC Missing Link resin offers correct American Racing Vector wheels. For the engine, they never really showed a good shot of the engine. but I would recommend seeing season 1, episode 4 entitled "Repo Men", they show a beat up Charger (which still exists BTW), and they show a very good shot of an engine, in which the Duke Boys would eventually get. thats the route that i'm planning on going with this kit, but the 440 from the kit would also be correct. here's a link to the "Repo Men" Charger restoration that should help you no matter how you build it Clink on the "Lee 1" link but since your just building as a display. get the AMT kit. its not correct but for what you need it for it will work alot better then what I described. plus alot cheaper. BTW, I am a HUGE Dukes of Hazzard fan

I got this kit today and I have to say its very nice. its only got 75 pieces, but don't let that fool you. there's alot too this kit. its got a nicely detailed 420 ho V8. I only have one gripe with this kit, and thats with the front grill. its a Revell Germany kit, and there's a difference between the U.S. version and the European version. and its in the grill. THe kit has a grill thats has a slot in it for a European license plate. The U.S. version has a divider where the plate is. its an easy fix with some styrene. but it would have been nice if Revell would have given us an updated grill since its in a Revell USA box. here's the European grill and the U.S version grill

I was in my local Hobby shop to get a Revell R8, and I was shocked at the price. $18.50. the 68 Charger was $19.00. and I looked around too see all the Revell reissues where $17.00+. did Revell raise the price of there kits all of a sudden. I'm guessing with gas futures trading at $124 a barrel. and the fact that petroleum is the main ingredient in plastic is the reason for the price hike

you guys at least have a decent public transportation system. majority of them here in the States stink. I looked into riding a bus to school. which would be alot cheaper. but I'd be on the bus 6 hours a day -

I agree with you ethanol. its as bad as gas, its about 40 cents cheaper. but majority of the cars on the road can't run it. and the ones that do with the use of E85 will actually get worse MPG's. which means the cost of the fuel comes out to be about the same with gasoline and ethanol. some vehicles are getting single digit MPG's running E85. here's edmunds gas V. E85 comparison. Edmunds E85 V. gas -
I heard its an ugly fix. I have a 2001 Ranger but I don't have cruise control.

No promos for 2008 will be done

thats a shame. maybe Revell is using the promo tooling money to produce a ZR1 kit. I'd be shocked if Revell does'nt do the ZR1 -

its about $3.62 average here. I'm happy I bought a fuel efficient truck. I'm averaging about 28-30 MPG's out of my 4cyl Ford Ranger -
looks great, you may inspire me to get back to rebuilding the 74 promo Javelin I have

Ferrari 599 interior colors
gasman replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
thats what I thought, thanks for the info, there's a 430 on Ebay with a silverish blue interior that looks pretty sweet, and I'd like to do that with a 599, -
does anyone know what other interior colors are availble for a Ferrari 599. the only colors I can find is a few different shades of baige. and black.

looks great, i'm happy Revell decided to put a small block in this kit instead of the big block, but i'm sure future versions will have the big block
-
my first Revell Nova will be one of my favorite cars, i'll convert it to a 70 and make a Yenko duece.

I'm in school majoring in architectural computer aided drafting. off coarse i'm alot younger then all of you (i'm 23), but with my plan of study i'll almost always be taking classes the rest of my life as the technology gets better, I used to hate school but now I actually like it. -
Question about SPEED
gasman replied to Nick F40's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
NASCAR does'nt own SPEED, FOX television does. NASCAR ratings are up so far this year. (IIRC up around 5-6% from last year, attendence at the track is down, but $4.00 a gallon for gas is the blame for that), I would like to see more of a mix. PINKS is a terrible show. but its one of there highest rated. -
lets see, I'll do my current project for costs. it changes for every model I do model, AMT 1970 Coronet stock kit. I got it three years ago for $20, long before the new AMT announced the reissue. $18 is resin parts. to convert it to an R/T convertible (PSF hobbies pitchfork hood, RT tail panel and side scoops, Boot from the Modelhaus) not much PE, maybe $10 worth, but most is from the "P.E." spare box $10.00 (bought using coupon from Michaels a few years ago) Revell 69 Charger for some parts. like the RT emblems, single carb intake, carb, and some other minor parts $6.99 AMT 71 Charger, for air cleaner (although this one doesn't technically count because I bought it for the chassis, to use under an AMT 74 Road Runner) maybe $20 in paint, although I haven't chosen a color yet. with the math thats $84.99 so far, but I've been planning this project for several years. and parts have been bought over a three year time plan

Question about SPEED
gasman replied to Nick F40's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think Dave Despains rant from a few years ago pretty much tells why lets face it, NASCAR gets ratings. and they'll show what gets the ratings. I do enjoy watching the SCCA runoffs though. and the occasional F1 race. I am a NASCAR fan and I prefer NASCAR so I don't see anything wrong
