GM on the critical list
gasman replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This may sound bad but bankruptcy could be the best thing for GM, they could loose the Unions (I expect UAW to be no more after all of this). drop money loosing brands (IE Hummer, Saturn, and Buick). and completely rebuild there dealer network. They need to sell Saab. They need to get back too there roots. have each brand have its own Identity. Chevrolet's can be entry level cars and trucks. then Pontiac, then Cadillac. and have GMC be fleet only. I'm currently looking for a new car and I have literally have been yelled at because I not considering any American cars. I'm looking at a Scion tC, Mazda 3, VW Jetta, and a Subaru WRX. My only must is a manual transmission so that crosses a lot of cars off my list. -
so the three where in America again. May tested the CTS-V, Hammond in the new Challenger, and Clarkson in the ZR1.......and too my amazement they all loved them. great episode. Clarkson called the ZR1 "Enzo Fast" prohibably my favorite ever. All I have too say is Revell MUST do the ZR1 now. I HAVE to build that car. you can either get the Torrent at finalgear.com, or I"m sure it will be on Youtube very soon

one thing too remember is that most of AMT's tools date back to the 60's. there recently tooled kits like the 60 Ford, 71 Charger, and 71 Duster are excellent. but some of there kits are old like the recently reissued 49 Ford. which was originally issued in 1959 IIRC.

pretty much anytime. being a full time college and a part time worker I have a surprisingly large amount of free time. I don't work weekends. and my day usually ends around noon. (I work early, and the days I don't work I have class early the morning. so from about 1pm to about bedtime (around 10-11 pm most night). i'm free. other then doing homework. which I actually enjoy doing.

here's the 2010 GT500

It sounds more and more likely that the Mustang will get the new 2.5l 4cyl. with an optional turbo. the V6 could also get a turbo. but thats kinda doubtful since it would make the turbo V6 more powerful then the upcoming 5.0l V8 that the Mustang will get.

Chrysler to be sold in pieces?
gasman replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Chrysler has done a good job at creating "niche" cars. like the 300. Challenger, Magnum. and PT Cruiser. those types of cars sell good at the beginning of there life's. but don't tend too live too long. The Magnums already dead. and the 300 ain't too far behind. The Caliber is a major disappointment. rode in one over the weekend. it had no power. was cheaply made. motor was too loud. and it did'nt get the best gas mileage. Chrysler's doing a good job at sharing there platforms. (IE the VW Routan, (Dodge Caravan) Mitsubishi Raider (Dakota) and the upcoming Nissan Titan (Dodge Ram). but they need new product in there own dealerships. they only have one coming. the upcoming Dodge Hornet. but other then that there is nothing. BTW. go south of the US border and you'll find some interesting Dodge's Dodge Trazo (Nissan Versa) Dodge Attitude (Hyundai Accent) -
read a few weeks ago that the Corvette may not even be around in 2014. GM has pushed back plans for the C7, and the current C6 will last until 2012. Corvette sales are down (big surprise ). two seaters are on the way out at GM. they recently canceled plans for a replacement to the Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky/Opel GT

iTunes has replays of past Indy 500 races, but they only have 06-07-and 08, not 05 -
Chrysler to be sold in pieces?
gasman replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
more bad news for Chrysler. say goodbye to the Durango/Aspen. The plant which produces them is closing on December 31st 2008. and there is no plan on moving production to any other plant. plus the Sebring is getting ripped to shreds by the automotive media. even being called the worst car in the world by one well known journalist/TV show personality. Chrysler can't survive as a stand alone car maker anymore. Its on life support and the only way it can survive is if they get some outside help. GM has already said they will dissolve Chrysler if they get a deal. and keep just Jeep and the Minivan. The Renault/Nissan deal would be the best for Chrysler. It would not only allow them to get some much needed new product into the marketplace. They could also do a better job of exporting the product they already have. Dodge and Nissan are already working together on the new small Dodge (The Hornet), and the new Dodge Ram based Nissan Titan. my brother has an 08 Avenger. its not bad. the motor has ok power. but its got way too much hard plastic for my taste. -
Chrysler to be sold in pieces?
gasman replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Nissan/Renault deal would be best for Chrysler. it would allow some brand sharing. If this happens I just hope they bring the Renault Mugane over here and sell it in Dodge showrooms. thats exactly what they need right now. -
it can, but IIRC it doesn't have the stock tires, just the stock wheels

I'm not really into the vintage drag racing stuff but i'm all for a new kit of a current funny car, here's the real deal.
-
nice too see all those Dukes of Hazzard issues. hopefully the people at Auto World will correct the Charger with the correct rear window.
-
not only are we missing the ZR1. we are also missing the 57 Olds or Buick that was "rumored" to be announced a few weeks back The show closed for the day a little less then 2 hours ago. so we should be hearing some more info from the show soon
-
Not only are they betting the farms on reissues, there betting them on freakin show rods. AMT's already proven in the past that show rods are not good sellers. and what do they do, they go back to them. then Revell seems to be doing the same. sounds like Revell is giving us a 5 window 32 Ford which is a good thing.
-
cool, I expected AMT too release a snap kit of there Challenger promo. whats the deal with the funny car next to the Challenger promo's
-
anyone hear about any new releases at this show. I haven't seen anything online about it.

Chevrolet Nub.....?
gasman replied to Modellpularn's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
yes they are, but they are known as the Rondo here. I know NYC has been experimenting with several different taxis over the past few years. they are looking for a replacement for the very old Ford Crown Vic. -
Chevrolet Nub.....?
gasman replied to Modellpularn's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Its the Suzuki Forenza stateside and I haven't really heard anything bad about it. I've had good luck with the Korean car I did have. a 2001 Hyundai Accent. i'm still kicking myself for selling that car, it got 40 mpg without any effort on my part. was reliable. I didn't stick a dime in it. although the resale did suck (I paid $4300 for it in 2004 with only 17k on it). its worth a lot more know since gas has gone up.I sold it because I wanted a truck... -
In the past three weeks I got alot AMT 1988 Camaro promo AMT 1992 Geo Storm Promo Revell 1968 Charger Revell 1969 Charger (swaped body with the 68, will be a General Lee replica) Tamiya VW Beete 1300

Who Here will be at the Toledo NNL?
gasman replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was intending on going, with gas priced going down it really would'nt have been that expensive, but my nieces 1st birthday this weekend and that takes priority over model cars, I'll try to go next year.
