Well it is finally done. Started in Sept '19 finished Apr '20. Started with a vision and it turned out better than I had hoped. Comments welcome.

AMT Kenworth 123 cabover
Bills72sj replied to skymnky721's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Very nice for your first effort. Good call on the lift off cab. I build mine that way. Saves a lot of aggravation not to mention damage.- 14 replies

Very nice build. You should be proud. -
Thanks Tom, Though it is my first rig in a number of years, I didn't find it too difficult. I was warned about the cab seam so I sanded them flat before assembly. The mirrors were quite a pain though as was the super tight fit of the interior into the cab. It took a lot of patience to get it so nice.

Thanks Shambles I built it last fall. I was looking into getting a 3D printer too. I wanted rectangular headlights for my Freightliners and KWs REALLY BAD! Fortunately Auslowe makes them in resin which saved me the trouble. I have been ordering some diorama items on ebay and the quality of the 3D printed surfaces is hit and miss. I avoid body putty and sanding because it is such a hassle to me. I have been making my own decals for awhile with waterslide paper and an inkjet printer. While I have the artwork side of things figured out, I have to deal with color limitations. (No white, silver or gold etc).

Had the day off due to a sore back from overworking it on Saturday. Broke down and masked the 3D printed 4 post lifts for painting. I want all 3 lifts to be the same color so I am priming all the pieces white. They will eventually all be dark blue with some portions safety yellow. I also painted a few items that needed to be white. Unfortunately my pre-painted refrigerator did not go well so it is in the purple lake. I hope it survives.

Very nice -
That is not likely to happen here. Both my wife and I are very fond of keeping our cars in the garage (unlike most of my neighbors)

Well I am hoping it doesn't get too carried away. I have limited display space that is kitty proof.

Thank you Brian, It seems a lot of folks like the color combo.

With my Freightliners wrapping up, I have decided my (FIRST EVER) diorama is to be my next project. I am combining AMT's Tip Top Garage with, Testors/Fijumi garage and tool shop #430. I am robbing the wall cabinets from a race car semi trailer plus some of the tools. I also have some random ebay items to mix in as well. It has to fit into my display cabinet so I will need to keep it space limited. I am shooting for 4 bays with 3 lifts and some tire equipment. Follow along if you are interested.

Thanks guys. Being patient during assembly paid off.

Hobby Lobby has them. They are ink. https://www.gellyroll.com/classic-white https://www.amazon.com/Sakura-Gelly-Classic-Point-Pkg-White/dp/B079P8C36F/ref=sr_1_9?dchild=1&keywords=gelly+roll+pens+white+3pk&qid=1586481809&s=arts-crafts&sr=1-9

I have a suggestion for you BFG tires. Use a Gelly Roll pen in white. I have done many BFGs and Goodyears with one. The technique is a very light touch with a slight drag to get the ball to let the ink out.

Bye-bye dog leg door hinges. What glue to attach doors to body?

If the gaps are tight Superglue Gel will work fine. If you have big gaps I would get Gorilla glue clear in the squeeze tube. -

I'm with you. I pick a batch of similar subjects then build them all at the same time. It allows me to mix and match parts without rendering a kit useless when kitbashing. -
Thank you Jeff. This was my practice truck for the BRBO 2020 rig.

Thank you all for the compliments. No bungeed grille here. I would have went with the AMT wheels and tires but I am building another rig that needed them. The Moebius wheel sets are very nice. It does take some creativity to get them to fit onto metal axles though.
