So this is definition of PRO BUILT?
GoodbuildNY replied to Oldcarfan27's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
“Pro built “ is absolutely thee MOST misused term that is so grossly thrown about on eBay. It drives me nuts. Realistically.... how many people really make a profession out of building model cars??? What exactly makes a builder a pro? Granted, there are many people on this forum that build amazing models and possess GREAT talent that never ceases to amaze me and I have a ton of admiration for their talent. I’m glad someone brought this up.... rant over. As Snake says.... model on? -
The gtx chassis is a great fit and requires little adjustment. Here are a few pics of mine and where I removed a small amount of material. As for the convertible boot, I had one in my parts stash that was a corrected resin one that IIRC I got from missing link. I still made a few adjustments but overall it works fairly well.

Thanks Frank, the red and blue are paint. The red stripes bordering the blue are from the Slixx Dick Landy sheet as are most of the other decals.

Lol ???glad I’m not the only one Geno

Looks good Snake. I was curious about this kit so thanks for the write up.

Thanks guys. This is my favorite part when it all starts to come together..... also the part when I’m the most nervous since it’s almost together and I don’t want anything to go wrong lol

Quick mock up. Still needs to be polished, taillight panel painted black and foiling. After that just final assembly.

Some updates... just mocked up for now, still have detailing and finishing touches to do on motor hard to get good shots of interior but it’s comprised of dash from Missing Link, console, shifter & pedals ( all reworked to some degree) from Revell 69 charger, Armrests from amt 69 Gtx , fabbed turn signal arm. the body...... ugghh. I’m using Automotive Touch-up brand paint ( first time using ) and as it turns out even when applied over duplicolor primer it was way too hot and crazed...soooooo into the purple pond it went. Fortunately the crazing didn’t damage plastic too badly so I started over. After trial and error on test bodies it seems it’s something with the older mpc styrene as the crazing was next to zero on other styrenes but I’ve got a plan so hoping to have color on it by next weekend. Still a ways to go but it’s coming together. Also waiting for chroming to come back from Little Motor car.

That’s a great looking car and even better you were able to restore it. My father also had a coronet convertible, 68 R/T green, green interior ( don’t recall the top color ) . He actually taught my mother how to do burnouts on that car. Unfortunately it was long sold before I was born . Wish I was fortunate enough to have had it as they didn’t make many. I have a soft spot for B-body mopars.

Absolutely love it

Hi Craig, thank you for the input. I did ponder doing what you suggested with the gtx rear panels as I noticed as you did that the coronet panels were lacking there. I still might do it I was just weighing the work involved but it’s not off the table yet. As for the colors, it’s hard to tell in the pics but it is painted as you suggested. The textured surfaces, door panels, armrests and seats are painted “ off white/ pearlish “ and the hard surfaces ( upper door and lower door ) are gloss bright white. I had a 67 coronet with a white interior just as you described. Hopefully other pics will show off the nuances better. Thank you for looking and the suggestions as I really like to be as accurate as possible so another set of eyes is always helpful

This is going to be a really sharp car when done. I really appreciate your builds and will be following this build. Your one of the builders on here that truly motivates me

Thanks Ron, B5 blue is one of my favorite colors and will likely be using that on my mpc 71 cuda with steelies and dog dishes. Thanks Tom, I figured since it’s a convertible I’d better make sure the interior looks sharp lol Thanks Gene, the wood grain decals are from the amt surf woody kit. I made templates out of tamiya tape and transfered it to the decals Thanks Steve Thanks Mike

Been working on interior, seperated the interior tub sides, added upper trim, removed molded in arm rests and added arm rests from amt 69 gtx, added window crank knobs. Ground down original center console and added console from revell 69 charger kit. Used embossing powder for carpet to console and floor. Made foot pad.

Thanks everyone for the compliments

Thank you all for the kind comments ?

I can’t recall off the top of my head where I sourced it from,..I want to say the mpc 57 Chevy but can’t say for sure. Thank you for the compliment guys

Love the color combo. It looks like you got the interior color spot on. What paint did you use to replicate the orange interior? Also where did you get the detail decals ?
-
Update: haven’t had a lot of time to work on it but did manage to get some stuff done. Got the basic chassis assembled and trued up minus the front subframe ( which will be painted separately before attaching) , filled seams where there shouldn’t be any, built up where there was a gap between chassis and front sub frame. On the body I opened the area below the grill opening , scribed in the lines where the fenders/cowl/doors meet as it was missing, started to prep where the sink marks are. Next stage is to get primer on both and fine tune everything.

Thank you guys .... and yes we can call it a Z11. The idea behind the car was if a guy had a 63 impala Z11 and had wrecked it, decided to find a new home for the motor
-
If I can see a pic maybe I can help you get it figured out and get it fitting nicely
-
Do you have a pic of the gap?
-
I didn’t have much of a fit issue with mine in terms of firewall to body so just a little bit of filing and I was ok. With the front hinges I made sure there was a tiny bit of play in them so the nose would settle cleanly onto the body when flipped down.It just takes a little trial and error.

like this BEAUTIFUL build by Guy.
