  1. Not his dads car. Its a reproduction of his dads car. Just like those cars on the track behind them. If your going to hijack the thread at least get it right.
  2. Steve, yes you are correct about there being a lot of others to do. I think if I did another one I would just use the w.o.f. 77 monte carlo kit and not worry about the chassis. I would still need to get a 1/25 scale amt kit like the thunderbird to get the right tires and wheels. The aftermarket tires I think are 1/24 and don't look right under the fender wells on this body. The hood would stay shut as well.
  3. Very nice reproduction of the real car but not quite right for the first win car. The tires did not have eagle on them and the windshield supports were on the inside of the windshield plus some other things like the contengencies , but still real nice.
  4. Ronnie I sold my Tom Pistone replica to his daughter and really missed having it later so I do not sell them anymore. Now if Junior wanted one of them I might have to reconsider.
  5. looks like they got the blue too dark on the diecast. That's why I like to build my own replicas. Thanks again guys for replying to the first WIN build.
  6. Thanks guys. I really appreciate the replies.
  7. No more wips. Too close to the end. The next pictures will be the final ones in a different thread.
  8. Great job. Nice build.
  9. Another great looking build.
  10. Great job fixing the rockers and stance. Looks awesome.
  11. Thanks Gerald but it really is too late for this build, but this is definitely a reproduction car not the real car so you cant put much stock into it being like the real car. I have seen many cars from that era and they did not have open air cleaners all around like the one in this photo. Also the olds had a shorter front end then the Monte Carlo. Its still basically like the way I did the model. They also forgot to put an oil filter on it.
  12. Thanks Bruce. I got the windshield and back glass installed and the hood fits when I put the body and chassis together so i'm happy about that. I hate it when the hood doesn't fit flush. Still have to bmf the glass openings install braces on the back glass touch up the hood and trunk pins and fuel filler. Install the tire/wheel assemblies. Install the front and rear bumpers. Paint the rear bumper to body fillers. Decal the model and future the model. Then it should be done.
  13. Thanks Carl. Painting is not my thing but I guess this will pass. Luckily I have red line decals for where the colors meet. That's why I bought the powerslide decals.
  14. Got the blue on.
  15. Great looking fantasy build.
  16. Thanks Bill. I will go for the 48 hour time just to be sure.
  17. At least there is no sign of the dreaded red bleed through from the red body. How long do you guys wait for the first color to dry before you mask to paint the second color? In this case the blue.
  18. I painted the yellow on the body and I dont know if tamiya paint has a shelf life but it was an old can and did not seem to have the proper pressure behind it so it did not spray like I'm use to Tamiya paint spraying. I re-sanded it and bought a new can of ts-16 yellow and will try again today.
  19. Michael, if you paint the body a duplicolor silver metallic after the first primer coat, then prime again before the final color, it will block the bleeding. You have to use a couple of good coats of the silver or it will still bleed. Check my wip on Dale Earnhardt's first win Monte Carlo in this Nascar section and you will see what I'm talking about. I prefer the monogram kits but the only 77 Monte carlo kit for the body I could find was 1/25 scale and I did not want to use a 1/24 scale chassis under it so I used the amt 1991 thunderbird kit for the chassis. If I had use the monogram chassis I believe the tires would have looked way too big under the 1/25 scale body. I used 1/24 scale wheels and tires on a 1/25 scale Pontiac Grand Prix and you could see they looked way too big for the car. The picture of the real car shows the tires weren't that big.
  20. Great job doing the race damaged version. Looks real.
  21. Great job. Wish they did the current trucks.
  22. I'm going to say the chassis is done except for the tire wheel assemblies. I know it's not correct by any means for any of you guys who might have seen the real car back in 1979 but I had no underhood ,interior or underneath pictures of the car to go by. Even if I did I doubt if I could have done it exactly like the real car. When I saw that article in Scale Auto by Dave Thibodeaux back in 2012 I always wanted to try this build. I used a 1/25 scale amt chassis instead of the Monogram 1/24 scale chassis he used so you might want to go his route if you want to try doing this build. You won't have to cannabalize as much as I did to make it work. I just wanted to keep the scales the same for body and chassis.
  23. Again Hawk, you do fantastic work. Especially the finishes you put on your builds. Looking forward to many more of them.
