  1. I haven't had too much luck with the Molotow stuff. It doesn't seem to ever dry and if you touch it after you are done it dulls terribly. You are right about the AlcladII , you almost have to be perfect with the application of it or it doesn't look anything like chrome.
  2. Thanks for the reply Jason. You have done a wonderful job so far fixing the glaring errors this model has. I'm sure the final build will be spectacular.
  3. Sorry, Ken. It appears that you have been hijacked. Doesn't matter. I know your build will be superior in every way, just looking at your engine photos is proof of that. Still can't wait to see YOUR final photos.
  4. Great job with the Krylon. Not that easy to get that stuff to look good. Are the white areas on the car decals or do you have to paint them on? If it is paint you might have wanted to do that part first and mask before putting down the red.
  5. Thanks for the reply. Maybe someday it will be more readily available over here in the states. I guess I will have to just keep on trying to find it. I did some recent wheels lately with Alclad II chrome but it just doesn't have the superior chrome look about it that the Revell Chrome does. The wheels on your build look amazing.
  6. Man, that's really looking good Jason. Never worked in 1/18 before. What's the main thing different you notice about it pro and con wise?
  7. I tried to get some of that Revell Chrome. Where did you get yours from? Everybody I found was out of stock. Very popular stuff.
  8. Added the mount for the shifter and painted the inside of the doors and under hood where necessary. I messed up and put the mount too far forward to where it was going to be under the dash, so I had to cut it loose and move it back a bit. This is where paying too much attention to the ref pictures will get you in trouble. The ref pictures for this build just gives you a general idea about where things are, but not exactly. The IROC race car Camaro is a banjo car not a real Camaro from the factory, so it might look the same, but they are way different in actual dimensions. The 1975 IROC race car Camaro was actually a stock Camaro made into a race car. Not really a very safe race car for the speeds they were going. That's why they changed to a Banjo chassis in 76 or 77. I can't remember exactly. The Porsche they used the first year was a factory built 911 with a few tweaks here and there but it was basically a stock 911 with a simple roll bar behind the two front seats and the Engine was a race engine. It was called a 911 RSR 3.0. They only built them for the IROC series. I think there were 15 race cars and 2 spare ones. A lot are still around and worth boocoos of money.
  9. Thomas, Wow. So clean it looks 1:1. One of the best builds I have witnessed here lately. Excellence abounds with this model. Thanks for posting it for us mere mortals to view.
  10. Wow, turned out beautifully. Make sure you post here when you put this in the finished thread to let us know.
  11. Motor Trend usually picks the highest bidder to be their truck of the year. U.S. News and World Report gave compact truck of the year to the Ford Maverick and the Hyundai Santa Cruz in a virtual tie. I don't consider The Chevy Colorado to be a compact pickup. It is less than a foot shorter than the Silverado. Thats not compact.
  12. Chas, I thought about Mavericks too, but I just can't bring myself to buying a Ford. Plus, the Maverick looks just like a pickup and we wanted something more swoopy looking. Too bad they don't offer a front bench on the Maverick, but the doggy comes first in our family too, but she likes the back seat just fine.
  13. Wow, what an awesome job he did. They look like the real thing in 1:1.
  14. Thanks, Pierre. I know when Hyundais first came out they weren't that great, but man have they improved over the years. I almost look forward to driving it, it's so much fun. And there is a lot of warning features to let you know if you're fixing to hit somebody or they you. Plus, its built solid as a rock. No wind noise or rattles at all. We have no reason to ever tow big loads or carry anything but gardening supplies so it's perfect for us.
  15. Finally found the pics of both vehicles. I added black running boards to the big one to try to make it more accessible, but all I did was hurt my back installing them, and it was still hard getting in and out of the big truck. We are very happy about our decision to make the change.
  16. We had to settle the estates of our two mothers back in 2020. They passed between 6 months of each other and both houses were 4 hours away in opposite directions from each other in this huge state we live in. We knew our old pickup was not up to the task so we bought a new 2020 Silverado Custom crew cab. It served us well for both of the jobs we had to accomplish that seemed to take years off of the few years we have left. Well, any hoo since then the truck has mostly been sitting in the driveway hardly ever driven unless we needed to get some gardening supplies. We had only put 7878 miles on it, and it seemed like, why do we still have this vehicle? But we did not want to put mulch in our smallish cx-5 Mazda that we had to purchase last June because our 2008 equinox had gone through two transmissions and the engine leaked oil and it was going to need a new cat convertor. Lately we were watching the Mark and Kelly show in the morning and they were having a segment everyday about the New York auto show. One vehicle that struck our fancy was the Hyundai Santa Cruz. We started to find that we both were thinking about that vehicle and my wife finally said what do you think about trading the Silverado for one. I said well lets go look at one and maybe drive one and see how we like it. Well last Monday we did just that and fell in love with the baby truck. Which is what we call it. Bought one that same day. It is so much more fun to drive than the big hulking Silverado and now somebody who actually needs a full size pickup will be getting a very fine one.
  17. Ken, this should be an excellent adventure. If it's a long ride, I don't care. I Love to watch a highly skilled model builder at work. Great ref pictures. It's weird seeing basically a Nascar engine sitting in the engine bay of a prototype sports racing car of the highest level for the time it was competing. A simple push rod engine competing against Europe's finest racing engines and cars of that time. Hard to believe but true.
  18. Thanks for stopping by Jason and Ken . I really appreciate the kind words.
  19. Sorry . The above post was posted after you had already answered the question.
  20. Thanks , Pierre. Thats some awesome information. I kind of figured they must have been Ferraris. You might not have seen my request about the Porsche you have pictured in your build above because it was a late edit to the thread. But what is the Porsche and what kit is that?
  21. I think the fab on the oil filter and mounting bracket is through. Just need to install the bracket to the model and paint the oil filter. Still need to prime the chassis and paint it a very light gray.
  22. I like what you did to the updated weathering. All you need now is those great wheels you have on order. Really looking forward to final photos. The orange Porsche in the background. What kit is that and where did you get it?
  23. I watched the whole movie this morning. Can you tell what kind of cars they used? Of course, they had to put fake logos on them for the movie. For a 1955 movie it holds up pretty well with no cgi whatsoever. Of course, all the racing scenes were on a sound stage but still very entertaining.
  24. Pierre, the Mille Miglia is in the first 20 minutes of the movie which is about 1 hour and 23 minutes long. It's really worth a look at. Pretty cool for a movie made back in 1955. The cars in the movie get very weathered so they tryed to get it right.
  25. the movie was called "The Racers" and it was made in 1955.
