Jaguar XK120 Race Car
MarkJ replied to Pierre Rivard's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Pierre, that underside is looking so real. and I vote yes on the driver, but he has to have a Graham Hill mustache. -
Got the movie wrong. It was the Treasure of the Sierra Madres. But the point is, we don't need no stinking Facebook forums.
-
Yup, officially gone. I'm really comfortable with this forum and the Short Track forum so we shall all move on and as the guy on a movie about seven-gun fighters said, we don't need no stinking badges, I mean , facebook forums.

I agree, Bob. Talladega Nights was much more like real Nascar. Shake and Bake.

Yes, Ken. Yours looks much better than the kit part. -

As I've heard around here. Yup. This certainly deserves a big one. Going to be another fabulous build. -
Thanks, Ken and Steve. Turned out better than I thought they would.

Got them finished except for a little more sanding after adding some more putty to the tube connections. Also have to add the collectors.

Oh yeah. That engine is downright beautiful with the varying shades of metal. And the wiring is so cleanly done I wonder how your fingers can perform the magic it must take to accomplish this precision. -

Ken, I am continually amazed with each new entry into this continuing saga on how to build a fabulous model. Every time I get a new e-mail informing me of a new post, I get downright giddy about it. -
Me too.

Got the left side done. When I was detail sanding the right side I broke it, so I had to repair it. When I get both finished and ready for paint I will post them. Pretty happy with the way they turned out.
-
Got one header finished. Will have to detail sand it with mini files to clean it up but it should work okay.

Thanks, Ken. I use Evergreen because that is what Hobby Lobby sells. However, they keep cutting back on their inventory and the tubes and rods they offer are not so much anymore and they have replaced them with square tubes which I believe is popular with the model train community. I might have to order directly from evergreen like I did before Hobby Lobby decided to sell them in the future. Luckily, I have a pretty good stash at the moment.

As it turns out, Pierre. That header I made was a waste of time because the .080 rod is too fat to get by the steering box. I'm glad I did not make the right side in .080 before I tried the fit. I remade the headers in .060 which is even easier to make bends with and the test fit barely gets by the steering box. I'm making the headers hug the engine as tightly as I can and adding the tops of the headers later after I get just the right length at the top and the separation between the tubes better as well. I used to make headers with solder because it is much easier to make them but making the collectors and then attaching the solder to styrene was always a problem. I'm glad the styrene is working out okay on this build.

Starting on the headers. Will check the fit of the left header before starting on the right side. If you noticed the image of the right-side header, it has been flipped horizontally with my picture editing program which also makes the tubes upside down. I will have to take all that into account when I actually make the header. Don't know if my brain is up to the challenge. Turns out the tubes are .080 rod which bends pretty well if you are slow and let the heat from your fingers make the plastic more bendable. I guess 98.6 degree fingers make a pretty good heating source if you take your time. I can actually make a 90-degree bend without the plastic breaking if I'm patient with the process.

Bob, if you use postimage.org, which is free and very easy to use, it will automatically make your picture the correct size for forums. I'm not sure which posting site you are using. But you might want to give it a try. Very easy peasy.

Fuses are absolutely amazing, and the toggle switches, and the painting of the dash, and everything else you do. The creativity of your mind is astounding to come up with all these wonderful ideas. -
Also glad to hear you are at short track, Pierre. Don't be afraid to post your amazing road racing builds there too. It's really for any kind of car even street machines or show room builds. Totally agree with you about Facebook.

Excellent build Brent. I wish I could build a model that cleanly. Your cleanliness of build is really through the roof excellent.
-
Excellent build from an Iconic movie that brought Nascar to the masses. The only thing I didn't like about the whole deal was Kyle Busch hijacking the name Rowdy for himself. Again, excellent build on this one, Steve.
-
I could really see this happening someday. You put a lot of thought into this throwback and looks very believable and an excellent build as well.
-
Finally finished the steering linkage so I will go ahead and make the headers and actually build and finish the engine before getting back to the chassis.
-
Thanks, Steve, I made a 1/25 scale picture of the headers and will use that as a guide to make the headers.

Wow, I can only dream of having a workspace like that. Breakfast nook is all I will ever have. Luckily, we don't eat anything there.
