  1. Now I need to find out if I can just shoot these parts as is or if I need to have them gloss black like you have to do with alcladII chrome.
  2. I realized I had already assembled the wheels and tires, and I needed to get the wheels free so I could repaint them with the Revell Chrom spray. I put them in the freezer for a while and they luckily came apart so I can do so. I will be removing the bare metal foil from the air cleaner and painting it at the same time I do the wheels. I might even do the expansion tank and of course I will be doing the valve cover breathers as well. Latest tracking shows it to be delivered this Saturday at 9 p.m. I'm waiting with Mucho anticipation.
  3. Bummer when they come apart like that. I'm sure you will find a solution for this problem. model on, Mark.
  4. Got the first painting of the engine done and will need to do some touchups with a tiny brush where the paint overlapped. I also will go back over the whole engine with dull coat varnish. It's just too glossy even though this is Vallejo acrylic paint. I will cut off the valve cover breathers and repaint them with the Revell Chrom when it arrives. Might take as much as 4 to 5 days to get it because it has to be ground transported because it is flammable.
  5. Great news, I was able to order the Revell Chrom spray from Model Roundup today. I've been wanting it for a long time and finally will have it. It should improve the look of the air cleaner and the wheels on the build. Will just need a low humidity day to get outside and spray them. Thanks Dave B for letting me know about it. So much appreciated. I tried to order it yesterday, but a recording told me to leave my number, and they would get back to me. Well, I did not hear anything the rest of the day and thought, oh well I guess it was too good to be true. But the voice on the message called me back today at 11 this morning and was so helpful to me in placing the order. Will definitely be purchasing more from them in the future.
  6. Big improvement over what came in the kit. I could never work in this scale. It's just too intricate for me. Model on Mark, it's going to be great.
  7. Thank you so much, Dave. I will be ordering from model round up as soon as I can.
  8. I need to have a chrome air cleaner, so I tried to paint it with one of those chrome pens. It turned out terribly. I then decided to use bare metal foil which you can see wasn't much better. If I could get Revell chrome it would probably look pretty good, but I can't find anybody who stocks it here in the U.S.
  9. Thanks, Pierre. I had forgotten all about that. I actually was surprised when I saw you using the Deco pen. Glad it worked out for you because it is the perfect solution for really thin mouldings around glass that there is no way you could mask and paint. You just have to have a steady hand like you have.
  10. Thanks, Bob. It was a very satisfying build.
  11. Looking awesome, Pierre. I have had good luck with the deco color paint pen as well. After it dry's, it holds up better than the molotow achohol chrome pen does. It almost seems like it never drys and if you touch it accidently it dulls terribly. The deco color pen does not.
  12. Excellent job on both, Yoshimi. I remember wanting to buy one of those Matadors back in the day but knew it would be a major no, no being that I worked for a Chevy dealership. I had bought a new Dodge Charger back in 1973 and did not realize how the management was going to feel about it. They weren't too happy so luckily it was a horrible car, and I sold it to my next-door neighbor. In 1976 I bought a Laguna S-3 so at least I was driving a Nascar at the time in Chevy form. It also turned out to be a horrible car because I got it with a 350 with 2 barrel carb. That car was so heavy and underpowered that it was actually dangerous to drive. You could not get a 350 4 barrel. To get a 4-barrel carb you had to get the small block 400 engine with the siamesed cylinder heads that had a lot of problems with head gaskets. Yes, the Penske Matadors with Allison driving must have made for a huge sales increase for AMC back then. At least with Nascar fans.
  13. Great build, Bob. Thanks for, as you say, digging it out and exposing it to a lot of us who have never seen it before. Excellent build and really enjoy your choice of colors on this one. The paint and decals have held up well in storage.

I see you got her done, Pat. Knowing all you had from the kit was the body makes this an especially great build. I wouldn't have known it if you hadn't told us in the wip. Modeling at its finest is when you don't let a perfectly good body go unused. Bravo.
  15. Thanks, Ken. I appreciate your interest in the build and the kind words about it.
  16. Loving that blue. I wonder why they call it pure blue. Whatever, it looks awesome.
  17. This was one of those Darlington 500 winners I had always wanted to do but the kit availability always stopped me. I remember all the buzz when Bud decided to go small which led to other Ford builders switching from the Galaxie to Fairlanes as he had done with the Mercury nameplate going from the Marauder to the Comet. It paid off with his Southern 500 victory with Dieringer. I remember listening to it on the radio and rooting for Darel to win.
  18. Got all the engine parts primed and ready for paint. Hopefully I can get it painted and assembled and maybe even install it in the chassis. That would go a long way in getting this thing finally finished.

Well then, I applaud your results, Pat. They all look placed perfectly where they should be, and I don't see any wrinkles at all. Great job.

Pat, so are they decals or actually self-adhesive stickers that you have to get right the first time they touch the model? I could not even attempt something like that. I have to push a decal around forever to get it in the correct location and then use a ton of setting solution to get them to lay down without wrinkles. I'd be pulling what little hair I have left out if I tried those.

See, I told you it would turn out great. If you want, you could double up on the white decals that are on top of the red paint.
  22. I too really like the Vallejo paints. I just can't get the results you get with them. But I can usually get the color I want by mixing them being that they are small dropper bottles instead of small jars with twist caps.

Keep at it, Pat. It's going to look great.
  24. This should be interesting. Like Alan said, I have never seen or heard of one of these before. Looks like the driver might have felt like he had tunnel vision looking through that windshield.
  25. Pierre, how you get your finish on the interior and the frame of your builds is amazing. The seats look like leather and the dash looks like a real dash and the guages look like real guages. Seat and shoulder belts look perfect too. The exhaust pipes look like they are real metal not painted plastic. Clean, clean, clean.
