Well, here goes....
FASTBACK340 replied to FASTBACK340's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, we finished stage 1 today: cleaned the porch, threw away junk, stored stuff away...etc. Got all the car parts out of the house (well, most of them....) and organized the garage a bit better. Amazing how much "stuff" we have. But tomorrow we do the hobby room. We're enjoying some absolutely wonderful Fall weather in the NYC area this weekend and I'm taking advantage of it. Nice to have all the windows open and enjoying the season.... As for my work bench it's a nice, big & sturdy 2 X 4 framed bench with a finished Formica top. I scored the top out of the garbage behind a cabinet shop early one morning. The main work area is a piece of 20" X 20" stainless steel plate that's easy to clean. I have 2 swing away work lights and a magnified light ring and vise mounted already. I have a power strip w/ my dremel and soldering iron. I'll installing my spray booth in there too so I'll have some venting to do. I had bought a Harbor Frieght spray booth YEARS ago when attending Toledo and I've never used it. I'll post pictures once I excavate the site and get it going. As for posting a picture of a long dormant project, the one that stands out is my rear engined 12 cylinder overhead cam Hemi powered narrowed Dodge Daytona roadster w/ open wheels and lots of scratch building. That's been sitting for 14 years now. Originally named 2K`tona as a play on the upcoming millennium change, I've missed that deadline a long time ago. But it's also hardly the first thing I'll pick up once I'm starting again. But it is on my mind. If I can, I'll snap a few shots of what's done so far. It's pretty sick.... <sigh...> I regretted not doing this last year, but we just moved into the house in Sept. and there really wasn't time. Now that we're catching up on the major projects, I can get back into it. You'll see what a pest I'll be with posting my junk.... you'll all be sick of me in no time, if your not already. -
......and this is why it's taken me so long to get the hobby room together. Between the both of us working full-time, we spent all our free time this summer with family & re-building the house. Now things are looking good for the hobby room: Well, we built the deck ( ...and still have to paint the house in the spring) installed new fencing, garage doors, and poured some cement.....(ditto on garage paint) I even built a dog house big enough to move into (my boy is over 100lbs.) Now we move to in-door activities. Today we straighten out some storage issues in the attic and, dare I say it..... WE CLEAN OUT THE HOBBY ROOM! I have an entire spare room for my model building.... ...that is an absolute bomb site. It looks even worst now, as I can't get in there to take a picture! There, I did it....... I posted embarrassing photo's of my hobby room, which has been untouched for about 10 years. I push everyone else to finish their projects, now it's your turn gang. Harass me NO END to post the finished pictures of my next project, making the hobby room useable. I want to build sooo bad I can taste it.

Way cool build John! Your dedication & motivation to follow through should be inspirational to everyone.... How you bang-out these well engineered and built models is amazing. Takes me longer to figure out what to cook for dinner than it takes you to get 3/4's through a project! Awesome work....awesome!

Looks real nice David! That is so different and well executed.
-
Great job guys!!! I'd love to try a weathered build someday. Looks like fun trying to make it look scrappy!
-
Ah yes, a Renaissance man! Great workmanship.... looking forward to seeing more done. You mentioned this is your first model in 35 yrs.? Wow.... can't wait to see what you come up with once your back in the groove....
-
There is some awesome workmanship here David. The scratch building of the frame & suspension is well thought out and accurately done. Your cuts & seams are laser straight. Are you a surgeon for your day job? And how the heck did you open up the vents in the engine lid?!?!? If I tried to do that on a resin body it would look like a shot gun exit wound....... This is a great build.

Anyone here play guitar?
FASTBACK340 replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've been playing Bass for almost 40 yrs. now..... Geeez, I'm getting old! These are my 5 & 4 string Ibanez BTB's.Incredible Basses for the money. This is my `92 American P-Bass California Series. It's basically a Jazz neck on a P body w/ Jazz pick up's. I'll never sell this Bass. Never. I also just picked up a Epiphone EB3-L. I always wanted a real Gibson EB3-L when I was a kid because of Jack Bruce. Now I have one and I never play it or photographed it. Go figure....... Man I love playing! -
NICE build! What color is that? Doesn't look factory, but it looks GOOD! And yes.... 6BBL's RULE! <EDIT> 16.9 % of A12's were Rally Green. Low production color.... THAT'S why it didn't look factory! BTW: MY personal car is a rare color often mistaken for a non-factory too!

Just having some fun.... Please don't take me serious when I taunt. I follow certain treads closely and I'll post just to keep the interest going. If the builder see's no one having any interest and he's in a building slump... bang. Another project in a box under the bench. This is a very cool build that we're enjoying and we're looking forward to seeing it finished. This is just friendly encouragement.... -

<GROAN....> Not ANOTHER great build going on hiatus? Rommel is painting his Daytona with the head of a toothpick....Randy's Rat Rod is being restored.... Eric forgot he was building a beautiful `64 Dodge, and now this. All kidding aside, I have a rear engined 12 cylinder Daytona open wheel roadster that's been in limbo for 10 years.... Maybe I'll post pictures and get MORE people hanging on for updates. -
This build brought a smile to my face on several levels. First of all, I have a weak spot for vintage VW's. I've owned a 57 oval window, a 21 window bus, a 68 Baja, and a 67 Cal-Look bug. At the moment we also have a GTI in the garage. Second, the weathering is first-rate. It has "The Look" if you know what I mean.... But the biggest smile I got was seeing someone build this. I knew a modeler with a similar build style. His name was Dave Dickash and he had a similar twisted mind. He built a blown fuel Isetta rail and rocket powered Studebaker's. If it was several galaxies outside the box, it came from his workbench. Dave was featured heavily in all the Model Mag's because of his creations. Unfortunately we lost Dave about 6 yrs. ago and until now I've never seen someone with the same vision as him. Thank you for reminding me of a good friend and a hellvua builder with your awesome VW. Dave would have loved it.... as do I.

How Much Do You Have Invested ?
FASTBACK340 replied to XJ6's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Lyle Willits made an observation once that it'll all go for $5 each at a yard sale..... I myself have informed my wife whom to deal with as far as liquidating my junk after I pull the chute. One person will handle my cars, another my musical instruments, and another the models,my tools, etc. Hey, death is part of life. -
Has anyone seen these yet?
FASTBACK340 replied to FASTBACK340's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Let me update this post: do a search and this is out there for $40...making it even more attractive. -

This is really shaping up to be a killer. I like the HUG hauler idea! Maybe grab a new Challenger kit and convert it to resemble a vintage `Cuda...paint it Gold ........ -
This looks like an ideal addition to my workshop. And for $53 not a bad price either. I'd just check on replacement wheels/pads before dropping any coins 'tho... e-Bay Item # 350496087044 3" Electric Mini Bench Grinder/Polisher w/ flex-shaft attachment.
