Overhaulin' returns to Velocity
FASTBACK340 replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree on with you on Duane, but I think Jessi is a good choice. She's just another gear head, whom happens to be an average girl. What's wrong with that? Just looking forward to seeing a watchable show with talent and no phony scripted-in drama. -
Jeeeez.... That's some skill right there. Beautiful ....absolutely *%%}€*%% beautiful!

Overhaulin' returns to Velocity
FASTBACK340 replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Velocity was formerly HD Theater. It's a high definition channel only. As I'm typing this I'm having Verizon FIOS installed and just learned Velocity is part of a premium package that was included in my old cable provider base service. Velocity is falling between Spike and Speed as far as watchable and unbearable to watch programming. Still better than the non-stop NASCAR coverage Speed is broadcasting right now..... -
Overhaulin' returns to Velocity

Happy to see them lose AJ. In my opinion the eye candy just didn't fit in with the do-good intentions of the show. I'd rather watch Jessi spray sparks while welding than see AJ Armor-All a tire.... And as for Foose detractors, these are the same people whom complain about paying taxes on lottery winnings. Foofse has done more good for the automotive hobby/business than most. He can steal my junk and re-do it anytime he wants. Except my Barracuda. I waited for years and he never showed up. I finally did it myself. -
Interesting question. At the moment I'm waiting for a haircut, so here I am via I-phone. This is how fragmented my spare time has become. I'm blessed with a busy job that sends me home very tired some nights. I'm definitely starting to feel some age as I just don't have the same energy as I used to. So I find myself lurking instead of participating as I'm not really "in" the hobby at the moment. Between work, family, up-grading a few things on the Barracuda, and having our property ripped up at the moment with cement/stone work being done there's nights we don't get to dinner until after 9:00pm. Never mind hitting the bench. Except maybe with my head when I pass out.... Fall will be here soon enough. Maybe then.....

the one that got away.....
FASTBACK340 replied to tubbs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Mine I let go too..... When I was 17 I bought my first second generation Barracuda, a white '69 Notchbach 318/auto w/Cragars. Lasted 5 weeks before it was stolen from in front of our house. My second Barracuda I bought the following summer for $600 with a blown motor. It was a 383/4spd. '68 Fastback, green w/ blk bucket seat interior. It was over-revved and some pushrods jumped and jammed in the lifter gallery. Fixed it for cheap and proceeded to scare the heck out of myself every time I drove it. HUGE handful for an 18 yr old! I advertised it for $1,200 and eventually traded it for a '70 Cadillac. My gas mileage almost doubled, from 6mpg to 10...... Did I mention it was a factory big-block / 4spd barracuda Fastback? -
What would be greatly appreciated would be a tutorial on how & what you use to photograph. Some pictures the depth of field makes the model appear full size. Beautiful model, no doubt, but the pictures....wow!

Two questions: I'm no Chivy expert, but aren't those big block valve covers on your small block? And I guess the hood is molded shut with that intake set-up? But those nits aside, it's coming along nicely. Amazing creativity.

What Slows Down Your Builds?

....I was going to respond to this post 2 days ago, but got side tracked. -
Some old-school Von Dutch style pinstripes would work better, IMO.

Scratch Building an Aussie Ford Falcon **New update,15/1/18**
FASTBACK340 replied to ShawnS's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks for telling us what you use, but the real tip would be watching you. Your assembly is so clean & precise it's a skill unto itself. What type of applicator do you use for your adhesives? All those clean seams & joints look incredible. -

I was down in Homosassa, Fla. for my sister's wedding a few years ago and `Gator tail nuggets was an appetizer. It was flat-out delicious. At the risk of a cyber-pounding, it had the texture of Shrimp, but tasted like.... Chicken. I have it every time I visit. Yummy.... -

Yeah, I think that move got everyone's attention! -
I guess the hard work paid off...

Congratulations! Awesome build! -
I like the new format. It's a more mature vibe, kind of like Muscle Machines meets Autoweek. Hot Rod & Car Craft is too much Boobies & Beer (not that there's anything wrong with that....) but not in a car magazine. I like the change. And yes, the Talladega is awesome!

Early Model Builder Pioneers
FASTBACK340 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My childhood Heros have all been mentioned. Boeger, Keeler, Emmons, Shucklis, Paeth. All of these builders influenced my initial go-round with the hobby. Then, like most of us....I left the hobby. When I found model cars again as an adult I watched builders like Dale King & Juha Aria taking it to the next level. Gerald Wingrove was my first exposure to master scratch building. While most of Mr. Wingroves builds we're not what I would build, you couldn't ignore his craftsmanship Great links being posted. Thanks! -
I received the lastest issue of Hot Rod today. As promised, they overhauled the entire format & look. Me personally, I like it. The photography of the feature cars is really nicely done .... Any one else?

FASTBACK340 replied to John Teresi's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Man, it's been 5 days already and it's not finished yet?!?! JK As with all the other builds you share with us, not to mention how quickly you build, I'll be watching it come together. Your work is a great mix of raw talent and personal commitment. Always a treat to watch your work. Thanks again for sharing with us all.
