Great work Craig and that color is perfect. It is rather difficult to find such a blue with the current Dupli-Color offerings. Custom mixing seems to be the only way to go for such a color.

Thank you Carl. The one advantage to running the clear heavier was that I was able to drop back to 1500 grit wet sanding paper and remove almost all of the orange peel.

1973 Cutlass S

A boat? That's pretty funny and fortunately the car was saved. It's too bad Olds passed because it was a great look especially with the sloped front end. That GS is something special and a great color combination. -

Wow, that is impressive, and I wasn't aware of that model. -

Agreed. I enlarged the picture on my computer and the asking price was $12,500 obo with just over 19,000 miles. -
Thanks Jeremy. It's always a pleasure to build this kit.

Yeah, I've found steady even passes to be a key along with holding the can at a good distance. At times when I've applied the clear to heavily on a coat it has the tendency to "smear" the particles. I've found that in addition to lighter coats of clear limiting the number of coats in a day has helped prevent the smearing.

Interesting story Tim and yes this isn't a color often seen on these cars. -

Glad you liked them John. I actually liked the Cutlass models with the square headlights but preferred the Chevelle and LeMans with round lights. -
Thanks for the info on the clear and yes that interior has been very neatly detailed.

That looks like a resin copy of the stock car? Great model to have.

How to use Tamiya Panel Line Accent Color
AMT68 replied to Chevy II's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Same here. I do wonder how it would react to a surface coated with Molotow or Alclad. -
Thank you Phillipe, Bill, Gareth, Larry, Craig and Bill. I considered doing an all red interior. I like the Dupli-Color lacquers but at times it can be tricky to get the metallic particles to look even. Which is why I find it important to spray the clear lightly on the first few coats.

That clear has a great shine. Is it water based by any chance?

Very neat and clean looking build. And definitely not the easiest kit to build from what I've heard. Haven't even attempted mine. Yet.

Great work and the Bahama Blue looks very similar to Tamiya TS-54 in these pictures.

Thanks for compliments Jim, Rusty and Ray. Thanks Mario, Eric and ea0863. Yeah, I have quite a few Monogram kits and never tire of building them. Thanks Nigel, I'm figuring ways of dealing with the marker lights on my next build of this kit. Thank you Chris, Bruce, Joel, and Harry. Thank you Bob, Michel, and Anton. I have more of these myself but that'll be later in the year however. Thank you Mike and David. I've thought of turning my '70 AMT kit into a convertible.

Very impressive build. Great work on the engine detailing.

This was built from a mid 90's reissue of what was originally the Monogram Malibu SS454 in 1/24 scale and molded in blue. Painted in Dupli-Color Bordeaux Red (Honda color) and cleared with Rust-Oleum Lacquer (green label can with highchair). I chose this color since it reminded me of the less commonly seen factory color Black Cherry. Trimmed off the rear quarter glass for the rolled down window look and highlighted the raised letter tires with an 05 Gelly Roll pen. As with my most recent build of this model I used a water based acrylic (Deco Art Americana) for the blacked out grill sections. I'm finding it produces a more even color than I've gotten in the past with hobby enamel flats. For blackwashed grill applications I would still tend to stick with thinned enamel. I included a mix of indoor and outdoor images. And lastly, I inadvertently ran the clear heavier on this one. While I was able to pick out the majority of the exterior detail (and more aggressively wet sand the finish) the "Chevelle" emblem on the trunk (which is lightly scripted) was left undone as were the rear marker lights. As much as I try I'll never get them perfect.....ugghh.

Thanks, and that is a fine looking car.

Very nice work. I have one of these promo models in Cinnabar and an original MPC "Class Action" kit. This would be a potential color combination for that build.

Turned out very nice and the two toned interior really stands out. I agree with having fun with them. I basically build "factory like" but usually not totally factory correct since I enjoy adding my own creative touches.
