Absolutely, Dave! That is an area I have steered clear of, as I didn't think it could be done to scale. I would like to learn new stuff.

I need to fab a rear suspension on a street rod. I am using a Revell '32 Ford for certain parts such as rear axle, but I would rather see aluminum parts back there such as trailing arms. How do I make a typical trailing arm? I see it as three pieces; the center bar, and a short tube at each end at a right angle to the middle bar. OK, three pieces... aluminum K&S tube, ...how to assemble? Solder it? Glue it? I have 1/16" aluminum. Oh, while you're reading this, I wouldn't mind knowing how to do rod ends and Heim joints too. Please advise. Thanks!

Harry, maybe it's a birth defect? Not only is the show rod looking good, but so does Mr. Bones. It's refreshing to see someone attempt to detail a skeleton! They're not just white.

Zelkam, (your real name? It's a board rule) that is one sweet phantom El Camino! BTW, I just watched the movie "District 9", and I highly recommend avoiding the "black juice"!

Fan dies after hit by debris from NHRA crash
Jon Cole replied to Jon Cole's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I just saw a video clip of this crash on CNN. The rail did a hard left, on its right side. The free tire did a BIG bounce, and went maybe 30' to 50' in the air. Sadly, I don't think a catch fence would have stopped the tire. Irregardless, they should consider fencing. -
Fan dies after hit by debris from NHRA crash Woman struck by tire from a crashing dragster in Arizona race CHANDLER, Ariz. - A woman died Sunday after being hit by a tire from a crashing dragster at the NHRA Arizona Nationals. The woman was watching a first-round Top Fuel run at Firebird International Raceway when Antron Brown’s Matco Tools/U.S. Army dragster went out of control on the strip and its left rear wheel came off. Alia Maisonet, a spokeswoman for the Gila River Indian Community, said the woman was airlifted to a Phoenix-area hospital for treatment and later died. Gila River emergency responders were among the first to respond to the scene. Maisonet said she didn’t know the victim’s name or hometown. “The entire NHRA community is deeply saddened by today’s incident and sends its thoughts and prayers to the woman’s family and friends,†the association said in an e-mailed statement. Franki Buckman, the track’s executive vice president, said Firebird International Raceway also is deeply saddened by the incident. Brown was released by the track medical staff, but went to Chandler Regional Hospital for further observation, according to a statement put out by Don Schumacher Racing before the woman died. The NHRA said Brown wasn’t injured. The racing continued after the accident, and John Force advanced to his second straight Funny Car final before the session was postponed because of rain. Force, the 60-year-old star who ended a 40-race winless streak last week with his record 127th victory, will meet Jack Beckman on Monday. Reported by Associated Press

UPDATE- I am fairly certain the epoxy is not the culprit. I have used it on my current build, including the previous day without problem. I suspect the plastic. It was purchased from a hobby shop many years ago. It is a medium dark grey, and somewhat glossy. What types of plastic besides styrene do hobby shops sell?

37/38 Ford Pick Up--Revell Strikes Again
Jon Cole replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I want one! I want one! Umm... no... I want THREE! I'm working on a '37 pick 'em up now, that '38 grille will come in handy! -
OK, I have never had epoxy fail to hold plastic. I made a part from some plastic I bought years ago from a hobby shop... but I don't know why the part wouldn't stay put? I scuffed up the surface. Are there some plastics that epoxy won't work on? And... if epoxy won't work, what will?
-
George, the early sixtees Ford Pick-em up look great in that two-tone combo. Looking forward to seeing this one shine.

I finally have photos to show what I have been working on for the past three weeks (I work slow). Here is the inspiration: Mine will have gloss paint, still not sure of wheels or engine. First whack at z'ing a frame, decided to pin it for strength... Ahhh.... the doner corpse! The blood and gore shot... More later.

?? about decals yellowing
Jon Cole replied to Mooneyzs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Like Bill says, sunlight supposedly helps bleach out the yellow, tho I have never tried this myself. If you do put it in a window, or even tape it to a window, just be sure to avoid condensation inside the glass. That could ruin your decals. Put them in a Zip-Loc bag. Better yet, Bill's 'dashboard' tip sounds neat! -
spray booth explosion
Jon Cole replied to Bowtienutz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Pace Spray booth ( www.pacepaintbooths.com ) for me! I don't remember the cost (it was a gift) but I know it was under $200. (now the price is $225.) and less $$$ than MicroMark booths. Also I can buy replacement filters at any hardware store. Stainless steel is easy to clean up, but I cover the inside with Glad "Press 'n Seal". -
'06 Magnum SRT Wagon Project (Finished - 3/8/10)
Jon Cole replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Dat's gonna look good! Classy color! How about showing us the two hiding in the garage? -
Man, that is one beautiful bathtub! And I mean that with the upmost respect! I like the 356 Porsche, and you have it sitting just right. The car needs to sit low like you have it to look that good. Only problem? Need more pics! EDIT: note to self... read entire post. Link to more pics. I did look, and it looks good!

Say you enter a model in a contest, but it doesn't place. Do you bring it back the following year? Think of this as a poll. My opinion, YES. No law against it. Another thing to consider, it helps the host club. They need our support! What you say?

Nobody hijacked anything in this thread. I think the internet is big enough for two (or more) builds to be shown here. BTW, nice build, Jim!

'84 Buick Regal, replica of my first car
Jon Cole replied to lowriderphil's topic in WIP: Model Cars
If you really want it to look like the one in the photo, you should use a bigger tire, if not the wheel also. They look like 13" on the mock up, but much closer to stock size in the 1:1 photo. Maybe it's the angle of the pic? -
Marcos, this beast will look fantastic! I hope you give some attention to the kit glass, those late fiftees cars had window tint that can make the build stand out (although I am certain this car will stand out for sure!) Don't put this one aside, or this could happen...
