Chris- That is a top-rate build! Lots of detail. Doesn't matter when it was built, good is good!

I voted REAL, tho it really is difficult to nail it on this one. Good job, Harry!

Lincoln 1950 Cosmopolitian Limousine originally for President Eisenhower I haven't yet photographed this one finished, but I did shoot the changes I made to mine... I tried to add detail to the Lincoln mill... why I used wire too fat is beyond me now... not to mention the reference I had said the engine was "green", so that is what I painted it, only to find out later a FORD engine green is correct! Dag nabbit! I detail painted what I could. Someone posted a photo of the real car's contintal tire cover on the 'net, I shrunk down the pic to scale, and made four copies for the car centercaps... Below is the bubbletop recieving strips of BMF. The cars top has silver paint for the chrome strips out of the box.

Here is The Sunshine Special, a 1939 Lincoln made for President Roosevelt. I think I found this photo on the net, I have the car, but frankly the photos are better than I could take. Besides, whoever has this one treated the flags like I did (see previous post I did on the '64 Lincoln) I am SO tempted to buy another one just to have some fun with, something other than a Presidential Limousine The real deal...

Here is a Presidential Limousine, obviously not built by me It is a diecast 1/25 by Yat Ming, and a beaut. This car is not the "assissination car", but rather that car as it was presented back to the Whitehouse six months after JFK's murder. The car was now armored, and fitted with a fixed roof amongst other changes. One thing they didn't change is the dark blue color of the JFK car, and new president LBJ wouldn't accept that- and he sent it back to be resprayed black. One change I made to the car is the flags... Yat Ming prints them on a cloth, but in this scale, they were still too stiff. They are flat and straight out. With some help from a board member, I printed back to back flags on an Avery return address label. After removing the original flags, I wrapped the double image label around the mast, trapping heavy-duty aluminum foil in between. Once trimmed, the flags can be "shaped" to look more natural.

Any info on what car this is? I think it's a Plymouth Satellite. Don't know the year tho.

'06 Magnum SRT Wagon Project (Finished - 3/8/10)
Jon Cole replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Chris- That's going to look great, judging by the start you got there! I have three of those kits... nice looking wagon! Bill, I always liked your version! I did some research on the late-model Charger, you nailed the colors of the floorpan chassis! It's almost a 50/50 split between grey primer w/ overspray, and black. -
So who won The Pothole 500? I try to avoid the TV broadcast, it's the #1 cause of unexpected napping in this house. I had Nascar.com on, said there was a red flag, then it showed the #43 car going sideways, then anothe..r red.. flaggg.... zzzzzzzzz.

Nice fish, Mike! You going to bring it to Masscar or the NNL East?
-
Real nice build! I've never built it, but I'll guess the mods... 1- wheels 2- tires 3- gauge panel 4- steering wheel. That's all I got. BTW, how about adding your real name per board rules, I would really like to give you credit in my photo album. Again, really nice Boothill Express!

Just had my cable fixed, now I find ESPN Classic. Watching the Daytona 500... the 1979 500! Way kewl. Dale Earnhardt... rookie?! And a crash on the backstretch that explodes into a fireball... no safety fuel cells back then. Isn't this the first televised 500? I believe I'm going to watch a fisty-cuff!

You have some real interesting stuff going on there! Can you explain about the metal joints the suspension is attached with? I would like to build like that. Good stuff... keep going!

Which type of paints to use
Jon Cole replied to johngebw's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Welcome to the board John. Sounds like you want to jump in with both feet running. What painting experience do you have? I ask because you should master spray from a can first. Consider doing a learning curve with an airbrush on something more basic... say, an engine block, or a chassis first. As in, walk first, then run. Good luck no matter what. -
D A M N ! CRANKY! Good stuff!

NICE WORK! Two thumbs up!

RADiCAL!

Why use a two-dimensional decal for trim, when the actual trim is three-dimensional? Even in scale, it should be raised from the surface.

Takin' it on the chin..."Leno" - esque twin-turbo V6 Camaro
Jon Cole replied to Zoom Zoom's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Bob, we know this is going to be another stunning late-model coupe! It is only fitting that a car with a tie-in to Jay Leno has a chin spoiler. -
I agree with the above comments. I would add that I have seen dried Detailer peel off. Also I find the "black" is more of a dark blue. I still use Detailer only if I have a reason to avoid Tamiya Black (which isn't often)

William- #1 answer: Yeah, I had a 50' roll, so I did the wifes CR-V after I did the Jeep. I chose yellow because I felt it contrasted well with the green metallic. #2 answer: Heh! Yeah, I noticed that in the pic, and I am 101% sure there is no overspray on the dash! All I can figure is it is a reflection from the inner door structure, the sun must have been shining on it(?). Only part of the car ever to be refinished is the rear quarter, and some of the rear door.

Detailing an Engine
Jon Cole replied to Roger U's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, I'm no expert on engines by a long stretch. But as I said, the distributor is pointing horizontal. Just Google Image "Hemi Engine", "Hemi Dragster", etc. for reference. I cut off the distributor at the stem, and turned it vertical. It didn't work well... I should have used a new distributor, as the attached wires don't have enough excess, and now look stretched tight. When I did that, I noticed the rear mags should be more of a cast metal or aluminum color, no big deal. I plan on painting them. But be warned, those slicks don't just pop off the wheels. Under that tire, the wheel is molded with a big filler ring to give the tire some strength so the tire won't flatten under the weight of this die-cast model. I think it was unnecessary. That inner lip makes removing the tire from the rim difficult. -
Now try full size photo posting... I hope this helps.
