37/38 Ford Pick Up--Revell Strikes Again
Jon Cole replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I want one! I want one! Umm... no... I want THREE! I'm working on a '37 pick 'em up now, that '38 grille will come in handy! -
OK, I have never had epoxy fail to hold plastic. I made a part from some plastic I bought years ago from a hobby shop... but I don't know why the part wouldn't stay put? I scuffed up the surface. Are there some plastics that epoxy won't work on? And... if epoxy won't work, what will?

George, the early sixtees Ford Pick-em up look great in that two-tone combo. Looking forward to seeing this one shine.

I finally have photos to show what I have been working on for the past three weeks (I work slow). Here is the inspiration: Mine will have gloss paint, still not sure of wheels or engine. First whack at z'ing a frame, decided to pin it for strength... Ahhh.... the doner corpse! The blood and gore shot... More later.

?? about decals yellowing
Jon Cole replied to Mooneyzs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Like Bill says, sunlight supposedly helps bleach out the yellow, tho I have never tried this myself. If you do put it in a window, or even tape it to a window, just be sure to avoid condensation inside the glass. That could ruin your decals. Put them in a Zip-Loc bag. Better yet, Bill's 'dashboard' tip sounds neat! -
spray booth explosion
Jon Cole replied to Bowtienutz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Pace Spray booth ( www.pacepaintbooths.com ) for me! I don't remember the cost (it was a gift) but I know it was under $200. (now the price is $225.) and less $$$ than MicroMark booths. Also I can buy replacement filters at any hardware store. Stainless steel is easy to clean up, but I cover the inside with Glad "Press 'n Seal". -
'06 Magnum SRT Wagon Project (Finished - 3/8/10)
Jon Cole replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Dat's gonna look good! Classy color! How about showing us the two hiding in the garage? -
Man, that is one beautiful bathtub! And I mean that with the upmost respect! I like the 356 Porsche, and you have it sitting just right. The car needs to sit low like you have it to look that good. Only problem? Need more pics! EDIT: note to self... read entire post. Link to more pics. I did look, and it looks good!

Say you enter a model in a contest, but it doesn't place. Do you bring it back the following year? Think of this as a poll. My opinion, YES. No law against it. Another thing to consider, it helps the host club. They need our support! What you say?

Nobody hijacked anything in this thread. I think the internet is big enough for two (or more) builds to be shown here. BTW, nice build, Jim!

'84 Buick Regal, replica of my first car
Jon Cole replied to lowriderphil's topic in WIP: Model Cars
If you really want it to look like the one in the photo, you should use a bigger tire, if not the wheel also. They look like 13" on the mock up, but much closer to stock size in the 1:1 photo. Maybe it's the angle of the pic? -
Marcos, this beast will look fantastic! I hope you give some attention to the kit glass, those late fiftees cars had window tint that can make the build stand out (although I am certain this car will stand out for sure!) Don't put this one aside, or this could happen...

Message to folks I'm trading with
Jon Cole replied to VW Dave's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
OUCH! Hope you heal well, don't ignore the pain meds if you can. Keep us up to date as you progress -
Chris- That is a top-rate build! Lots of detail. Doesn't matter when it was built, good is good!

I voted REAL, tho it really is difficult to nail it on this one. Good job, Harry!

Lincoln 1950 Cosmopolitian Limousine originally for President Eisenhower I haven't yet photographed this one finished, but I did shoot the changes I made to mine... I tried to add detail to the Lincoln mill... why I used wire too fat is beyond me now... not to mention the reference I had said the engine was "green", so that is what I painted it, only to find out later a FORD engine green is correct! Dag nabbit! I detail painted what I could. Someone posted a photo of the real car's contintal tire cover on the 'net, I shrunk down the pic to scale, and made four copies for the car centercaps... Below is the bubbletop recieving strips of BMF. The cars top has silver paint for the chrome strips out of the box.

Here is The Sunshine Special, a 1939 Lincoln made for President Roosevelt. I think I found this photo on the net, I have the car, but frankly the photos are better than I could take. Besides, whoever has this one treated the flags like I did (see previous post I did on the '64 Lincoln) I am SO tempted to buy another one just to have some fun with, something other than a Presidential Limousine The real deal...

Here is a Presidential Limousine, obviously not built by me It is a diecast 1/25 by Yat Ming, and a beaut. This car is not the "assissination car", but rather that car as it was presented back to the Whitehouse six months after JFK's murder. The car was now armored, and fitted with a fixed roof amongst other changes. One thing they didn't change is the dark blue color of the JFK car, and new president LBJ wouldn't accept that- and he sent it back to be resprayed black. One change I made to the car is the flags... Yat Ming prints them on a cloth, but in this scale, they were still too stiff. They are flat and straight out. With some help from a board member, I printed back to back flags on an Avery return address label. After removing the original flags, I wrapped the double image label around the mast, trapping heavy-duty aluminum foil in between. Once trimmed, the flags can be "shaped" to look more natural.

Any info on what car this is? I think it's a Plymouth Satellite. Don't know the year tho.

Marc Havican... hmmm... heard that name... somewhere! Thank you for the "behind the scenes" on that build! It truely is a beaut! Best Boothill I have seen so far!

'06 Magnum SRT Wagon Project (Finished - 3/8/10)
Jon Cole replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Chris- That's going to look great, judging by the start you got there! I have three of those kits... nice looking wagon! Bill, I always liked your version! I did some research on the late-model Charger, you nailed the colors of the floorpan chassis! It's almost a 50/50 split between grey primer w/ overspray, and black. -
So who won The Pothole 500? I try to avoid the TV broadcast, it's the #1 cause of unexpected napping in this house. I had Nascar.com on, said there was a red flag, then it showed the #43 car going sideways, then anothe..r red.. flaggg.... zzzzzzzzz.
