  1. Nice change of pace and tired of red Ferraris... Revell Kit #4912 and paint from Scalefinishes Lamborgini 0077 Verde Ithaca Mica on the body and Mercedes 0054 Monza Grey on the roof lowered suspension 1/16th of an inch, cuz these Revell Ferraris always seem to sit a bit too high. thanx for lookin'...
  2. I was planning on doing that, with the possibility of the model making its way to the individual who owns the real one.
  3. Really nice engine William Fujimi did a really superb job detailing this little Porsche 4-cammer...it doesn't need much extra detail plus I'm not a big fan of photo-etch...go figure thanx Curt
  4. Instead of the dual distributor set up, Bill Rutan used an 8 cylinder distributor hanging off the front of the engine: here is my attempt to duplicate it: Don't have a clue as the firing order, will use photo to make it close Started to modify the wheels: Wheels, Tires, Front Suspension and engine coming together: Chassis with skin almost done: discovered I had missed a panel across the front of the chassis: As you can see, I've added "rivet/screw" detail using Archers rivet decals: and adding mirror housings to the front VW bonnet/hood: back to the bench, thanx for lookin'...
  5. I just worked with plastic rod by bending and stretching it over a round tube, comparing it to the drawings until I got the correct arc.
  6. actually it only took about three hours to fabricate what you see... spent about 8 -10 hours on the scale drawings which really help with the construction
  7. Now I get to play with the plastic... removed extra stuff from VW chassis floor: chassis so far... There are two cross braces on the rear of the chassis I will have to add after the engine is installed thanx for lookin...
  8. yeah, I've built that engine before...it's Ok, but not as nice as the Fujimi engine with the engine as visible as it is on this car, I want a good looking engine. and I don't have an issue with building the Fujimi 356 C as a curbside
  9. look to be custom made, should not be hard to duplicate... kinda look like "VW Centerlines", if such a wheel exists
  10. Was watching "Chasing Classic Cars" on Velocity a few weeks back featuring the Bill Rutan Special. Not a very attractive car and a definitly a different type of car which show host ol' Wayne Carini regularly diplays . Bill started with a 1945 VW and a 1958 Porsche Porsche 4-cam engine. He designed the frame rollcage, rear suspension, turned the engine around with the transaxle trailing for better weight distribution and relaced the the twin distributors with an 8 cylinder distributor. All together the Special only weighed in at 850 lbs. Bill's most famous race was the 1961 Mt. Washington Hill Climb, he had the fastest overall time on the dirt and gravel road. Second overall in this race was Carroll Shelby in a race-prepared Ferrari! I decided this would be a good modeling project, but what version do I build? The original...not a lot of pictures and a really ugly car. Decided to build the car in it's current restoration, lots of photos available. Here's a few current photos of the car: Gonna use the following kits as donors, mostly cuz I had both in my cupboard. I know, I know...how can you part out this kit, well...where ya gonna find a Porsche 4-cam engine? I can still build as a curb side, they provide extra wheels and brakes to build a 356 B or 356 C. I'll be using the 356 B parts and engine/transaxle from the kit. Here's a photo of parts from both kits I may or may not use... Wheels are from the 356 B and tires from the VW kit Got out the drawing pad, calculator and went to work on getting this thing scaled out to 1/24th scale...resulting in this: Time to get working on this thing, should be fun... thanx for lookin'
  11. Beautiful...decal work is superb!
  12. Yes, they are decals...if I build another I would paint the upper green, Tamiya's Park Green is a perfect match
  13. Still in a Formula One mood... This is a model I've avoided building for quite some time I found the paint scheme and decaling involved to be a little overwhelming. but my buddy Steve A. gave me this kit for helping him move The Tamiya instructions call for using their unatainable, no longer available MS-5 spraypaint So contacted Jameston at Scalefinishes for a match...he just so happened to haved the exact color Mercedes Monza Grey #054 - whch matches the decals perfectly Found this to be a fairly easy build with the paint scheme and decaling not being a problem. So here' Mika' ride: The view most of the drivers had of Mika Hakkinen in 1998: Thanx for lookin'... Post add'em: The "West" decals are not included in the Tamiya kit, they were purchased seperately
  14. Got in a Formula One mood again, just enjoy building Tamiya's 1/20 scale F1 models... The Lotus 107B Ford builds up really nice and is actually a good looking F1 car, even though it didn't do well on the track Although, it is not the easiest build - notably the decals, just number of them...sunmthin like 75+ anyway here's Alessandro Zanardi's Lotus: Thanks for lookin'...
  15. Thank you for posting a F1 model on this forum, there are a few of us out here I've built most of Tamiya's F1 kits 1/12 & 1/20 The Jordan is very nice...I remember when Eddie Jordan first blew on the scene with this car He was definitly a breath of fresh air in the F1 world I still watch F1, but building a model of these cars would be difficult...especillay if offered in 1/43rd scale My favorite period in F1 would be the 1950's thru the mid 1970's before "Sponsorship"
  16. Very, very nice model I just pulled this one off the shelf to build, your model has me looking at the build a little bit different thanx for the inspiration
  17. Not familiar with the Testor's 1/24th scale...this puppy is 1/12th scale Testor's did a repop of the Otaki kit I believe Construction was fairly smooth, parts fit just fine...doors are a little wobbly and don't quite close as snug as they should they need some earth magnets to slam'em home thanx for the compliment c'ya
  18. Scratchbuilt... glued a couple of rear fenders from a chevy pickup, drilled and filed the openings: cut off the stuff not needed, and one "tractor" grill created:
  19. After building the '50 Ford Low-ridin Pick'em Up Truck, I got a hankering to build another. Started with bits and parts from the AMT 1925 Ford kit and the Revell 354 Cadillac Parts Pack engine. Inspiration was drawn from the "Hot Rod Lincoln Roadster" in the August Street Rodder Magazine. thanx for lookin'... more photos and building progress can be seen at: http://public.fotki.com/crtr8z/25-fordillac-roadst/
  20. Helped my buddie Steve move about a month ago...he gave me this Testor's 1/12th scale "Lambo" his brother had started many years ago. It was a wee-bit dusty, but everything was there. The engine/chassis had been assembled and still in good shape after a good cleaning. Got to it and finished the model and here it is... thanx for lookin'...
  21. Very, very nice Mr. Kron My dad was big "Stude" fan...we grew up with a few isn't the Parts Pack Caddie 354 a nice engine I'm currently puttin' one in a 1925 Ford Pick'em Up Roadster c'ya buddy
  22. Love it... I built a collection of the Briggs Cunningham Racing Cars in 1/43rd scale, in 1/25th scale this "Le Monstre" must be that! not much available in the larger scales, just a Cunnungham CR-3 from "Fisher Models" was hoping he'd cast a CR-3K to go with the CR-3 thanx for sharing a little history with us
  23. Hey Dan...reloaded the pictures don't know where the originals went... but they be back c;ya bro
