1956 Ferrari Bardahl Experimental Wheels...?
curt raitz replied to curt raitz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
thanx Steve I'll give Norm (R&M) a call I've got lots of knock-offs in the parts box -
One of the themes for the next NNL West is "Racecars from the 50's" I dug up an article in the extinct Model Racing Replica News magazine about modeling the Ferrari Bardahl Experimental (which failed to qualify for the 1956 Indy 500) Start with the Monogram Kurtis Kraft kit and parts from other kits(parts box) and decals are available from IndyCals The problem I need help with is the wheels, pictured below. I can not find them anywhere...have exhausted all online resources I could think of Looking for assistance on replicating these wheels: thanx...

hey buddy looks like fun... I really enjoy re-opening a relationship with a model which has found itself on the "get-to-later" shelf! sometimes good things happen and it finds new life or it just goes back, to be rediscovered at a later date good to see your back building... -

curt raitz replied to curt raitz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
geez I forgot about one, have a couple of cans in the paint drawer.... will decant it along Tamiya's Pure White and give'r a go thru the airbrush thanx -
Just picked up this kit for a song...$5.00, just missing decals and instructions Martini Decals are coming from Pattos Place, don't need instructions...fairly simple kit Trying to figure out the best paint to replicate the Silver used on the the body of the Martini Racing Cars. MM German Silver is just too "silver"...the paint used seems to have a slightly blue cast to it Jameston from Scalefinishes is working on it, but thought I'd throw it out on the forum as well any help and suggestions would be great thanx

Thanx, and yes it will be at the NNL West in February 2014 -
Was watching "Chasing Classic Cars" on Velocity a few weeks back featuring the Bill Rutan Special. Not a very attractive car and a definitly a different type of car which show host ol' Wayne Carini regularly diplays . Bill started with a 1945 VW and a 1958 Porsche Porsche 4-cam engine. He designed the frame rollcage, rear suspension, turned the engine around with the transaxle trailing for better weight distribution and relaced the the twin distributors with an 8 cylinder distributor. All together the Special only weighed in at 850 lbs. Bill's most famous race was the 1961 Mt. Washington Hill Climb, he had the fastest overall time on the dirt and gravel road. Second overall in this race was Carroll Shelby in a race-prepared Ferrari! The current car... Here be the completed model... work in progress can be viewed at: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=79465&hl= thanx for lookin'...

Bill Rutan Special - Hill Climbing VW/Porsche
curt raitz replied to curt raitz's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I was trying to test fit the engine/transaxle into the chassis, realized...after finally getting it in place - it wasn't coming back out! Went ahead and installed the wheels/tires thus enabling the installation of the rear suspension componets as pictured... Couldn't find a proper steering wheel in the parts box, so i added three spokes to the rim and center hub from the VW kit... constructing the exhaust from solder and parts box goodies... back to the bench thanx for lookin'... -

in the world of model cars...everything is legal, right? -
James Welcome to the forum from Hollister you'll find scale car modeling is still very big in Northern California, even though most of the hobby shops have dissapeared (San Antonio Hobby) or gone downhill (D&J Hobbies). Put the 2014 NNL West February 1st on your calendar, biggest car model show in Northern California...non competitive show which allows modelers to bring a lot of model cars to display hope to see ya there Curt
