Got some paint on the body...Tamiya TS-44 Brilliant Blue, seemed as a really close match and made up some decals, correctly sized and printed from a jpeg onto white decal paper... then carefully cut out with scissors and exacto knife didn't come out too bad, just needing a little clean-up around the edges... Tires/wheels/baby moons, radiator shell and grill, windscreen w/Spaz chromed frame and engine (not quite done, yet) chassis w/seat, wood floor, roll cage, fuel tank, radiator, etc. bottom view of chassis... gettin close to bein' finished thanx for lookin'

I am planning on building a Salt Lake Racer from the vacuum form body Peter Lombardo sent out to all/any interested parties... don't know what to call it yet, but it's gonna be powered by the Allison engine from the Revell Parts Pack Kit. So this group build works just fine, count me in as well...

finished scratch-building the seat, roll cage and fuel tank... door panels finished... seat painted and seatbelt added, ready for mounting to the chassis... thanx for lookin'

Got a little bit of work done...stuff assembled and primered still have a lot of clean up and detailing before I can throw the paint on... Front and rear suspensions: Chopped windscreen frame, dash and scratchbuilt door panels: Body gettin' closer to color... And a few things have ended up with some color on them: Engine starting to come together...just gotta dig out all the little wires, etc to make it come alive... Thanx for lookin'

Thanx Bernard...I have not tried the flippin' it over and printin' on the backside, may have it's merit someday I'm glad the font is a fairly common one, does make life a little easier I was thinkin' of printin' on white decal paper using a thin border (the same color of the car that I can print) around each character. I've done this before, still requires delicate trimmin' Of course there's Steve with his Alps...I don't like tying him up for a one off, plus the white ribbons are getting hard to find and expensive
-
Peter, I'm taking a little longer than usual on this model...having fun building it and want the enjoyment to last trying to figure out the best way to do the lettering, not a very common font and it's white - not an easy decal to do. might have to enlist the aid of my buddy Steve with the Alps printer plus - some guy sent me this vacuum formed car to build...working on ideas for that one also

Only photos I could find from a quick search on the internet. Yes, I will be building a model of the restored car
-
Yeah, I got a couple of photos... They raced it in various colors, engines, etc The Rodriguez restoration tried to capture some of the best qualities of the car, the flathead, chopped top and color choice
-
That's right... no silly I ain't that fast, but you can only post 9 - 10 photos for each post...so i had to do the whole thing in two posts...

An update, but not really...All the parts from Replicas & Miniatures of Maryland have arrived - tires & wheels, Stromberg carbs, headers, etc was not able to find a 4-carb manifold, so built my own and made a few resin casts of it here it is with other engine parts and a manual tranny slapped on the rear of the flathead: First order of business was chopping the top...fun, heh marked and ready for the saw: chopped and roof lengthened: roof re-united with the body: hole in roof done: thanx for lookin'

I came across this car in the June 2010 Rod & Custom Magazine. This looked like a fun car to build a model of, plus building it would satisfy two pending model building tasks at hand...a club build based on the Revell 32 Fords and the Replica Theme for next years NNL West Jack Quinton and Bob Joehnck raced this car in the RTA (Russetta Timing Association) from 1951 thru 1962. Mostly racing at El Mirage and Bonneville, but occasionally showing up at local dragstrips throughout Southern California. They finished the 1952 season as the overall points leader. The car started racing powered by a Mercury Flathead, but went on to be powered by a Hemi, and finally a blown Olds. Jack Quinton with restored car and trophies won Bob Joehnck with restored car A few pictures of restored car: Biggest obstacle to building is finding a quick change rear end, 4-carb manifold for a flathead and suspension components. Was able to locate a quick change rear end and suspension goodies in the good ol' parts box Looked to Norm @ Replicas & Miniatures of Maryland to provide the extra goodies... Now on to parts findin and playin' with plastic & resin thanx for lookin'

He paid at least $750 for the kit...needless to say way-way out of my price range! I'm a little anxious and nervous building this kit, but enjoying the challenge/experience of building it as well. hopefully if pleased, he'll send more my way thanx... -
Very nice John I'm glad I stumbled onto this build will enjoy watching it come together and gettin' a peek at your excellent craftsmanship I agree trying to build and record a step by step tutorial is not easy...especially when ya got a good flow goin' thanx for sharin'

Finally plowing through this model, have done more research on building this model than I've ever done before being as though this model cost over $750, I sure don't want to screw it up... following advise from other modelers who have build these big scale resin kits...the front suspension needs to be "beefed up" the weight of the model will in time collapse the white metal suspension arms. brass tubing inserts with brass pins installed on upper suspension arms replacing white metal suspension supports with brass interior tub with dash disc brakes: original from kit - openings drilled and sanded - painted testors metalizer titanium all the red parts, cleaned, primed white and Tamiya's TS-8 Italian Red applied ready for decals and clearcoat(s) lots and lots of carbon fiber decals to put on this puppy- oofta thanx for lookin -
The Studeliner - '53 Studebaker salt flats streamliner
curt raitz replied to Bernard Kron's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Surprise, surprise...a Studebaker Salt Flat Racer! Excellent Now you'll be joining Raul and I with a Studebaker Salt Flat Racer build I really like the way you're goin' with this one, I followed the same scheme...potvin blower in front, but I cheated - used a Jimmy Flinstone resin body. here's a couple of pix of my "Salt Lickin' Stude": have fun... -
Very Nice Bernard...dang you sure have been buildin' a bunch of models looks great sittin' next to the black full-fendered 32 keep on - keepin' on

Sold the 1/12th Ferrari 312T to a gentleman in Olympia, Washington. He inquired if I'd be interested in building a few large scale Formula One kits for him...a Tyrell P34 and a MG Model Plus Ferrari 156/85. Right up my alley, I love to build big scale kits, especially F1...but do not collect them. Once I've built a kit the love affair is over, then I gotta move on. Just finished the P34 so on to the Model Plus Ferrari 156/85 1985 Canadian GP winner driven by Michele Alboreto I was not familiar with this company from Italy and their kits. Now I am, what a kit...only complaint so far - the instructions are a little tough to follow and the resin/white metal casting is on the rough side, but seems to clean up fairly easy. Parts are Resin, Resin, Resin...White Metal, Photo-etch, tiny turned metal parts, screws, nails and more Resin The Box: The Box Opened: Parts is Parts: Time to start cleaning and prepping the parts... thanx for lookin'
